Very Good Lunch Buffet
Submitted Sunday, April 18, 2010 - 3:42pm [Dine in]

I've only been to the East India Grill for the lunch-time buffet (which happens to be all-you-can-eat) and I've always found it to be a solid choice for quality and value in that regard.

The buffet selection isn't huge but it's good for both meat and vegetable dishes, it's hot, tastey and the serving dishes always seem to be topped up. I must note that there's no lack of meat in the dishes that are supposed to have meat in them... you don't need to dig to find what you're looking for.

Most people in the restaurant at that time of day are there for the buffet, so there's not a lot of service to rate but the bread and water are quick to arrive and they do keep an eye on the serving trays.

I'll keep going back for lunch every few weeks, it's a nice change from the normal North American fare.

Adrian's has been consistently good
Submitted Sunday, April 18, 2010 - 3:31pm [Dine in]

The first time I went to Adrians was for a function of about 60 people. They were very organized, the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, and things went off without a hitch. Everyone was very complimentary about their meals and the service - there were literally 60 smiling faces and not one complaint.

I've gone back with friends on a couple of occassions and we have had much the same experience every time. Good quality, good proportions, timely service, and a pleasant vibe. Overall very good value for the money.

Anyone I've spoken to who has experienced Adrians also have had glowing reports about their meals and service.

The decor isn't all it could be... especially for lunch in the daylight... but at night with dimmed lights and candles you don't really notice as the vibe quite warm, comfy and friendly. Of course that's aided by a couple of glasses of wine too ;)

Not a dress-up place, but good casual dining and value.

A Solid Choice for Sushi
Submitted Tuesday, February 23, 2010 - 2:29pm [Dine in]

I've been to Hirame several times and have never been disappointed. I've been there on supposedly quiet nights and it has still been busy so I think that speaks for itself quite nicely.

We're not talking about a high-end and high-priced Sushi restaurant here folks... it's a very good little community restaurant so it wouldn't be fair to judge it against the high-end places.

Personally, rather than rating the food, service, value and ambiance as "solid" and "outstanding" I would much prefer to rate them ALL as "very good" (well, perhaps the ambiance would be just "good") and I think that's fair. The decor is pleasant enough (much better than the cafeteria decor I've experienced in other similarly priced sushi restaurants) but the buzz of conversation and the polite serving staff create a nice vibe. It's friendly and relaxed... not stuffy.

They've got a "very good" menu (they don't mind substitutions) and the balance between quality, portion size and price is really "very good". The hot food is hot, the cold food is cold, it's tastey and well plated.

I've taken a few friends there (including those who supposedly don't like sushi) and everyone has enjoyed it and said they would certainly dine there again.

So yes, if you're looking for a good value-for-the-money dinner in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, this is a "very good" choice. :)

Have Always Enjoyed My Meal
Submitted Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 5:43pm [Dine in]

I've been to the Roadhouse several times, both before their reno and after. I know it's a popular place and it can get packed, so I take that into account when deciding where to dine. Based on that, I've always enjoyed my meal there, but I do think the new menu is an improvement. Everything I have ordered has been well received, and I've never experienced anyone I've been with being disappointed or unhappy with the fare. The service is sometimes stretched a little thin when things get hopping, but the servers have always been friendly, courteous and attentive. I don't consider myself to be particularly 'easy to please' but I would definitely recommend the Roadhouse for the type of eatery that it is. The only thing that would make me say "no" to going to the Roadhouse would be the possibility of lining up (I don't like to line up at any restaurant).

Here's a little something that was appreciated: They have their own bakery and cheese shop next door, and during our dinner a lady came in to the restaurant with several bags of bread, and went from table to table asking if anyone would like a loaf (for free) as it was left over from that days baking (the bakery had just closed for the day). A very nice touch... and yes, I took a loaf and it was excellent.

Glenwood Pizza & Pasta2390 200 St, Langley
Great Pizza
Submitted Thursday, October 15, 2009 - 5:26pm [Dine in]

I've gone to Glenwood 3 or 4 times and based on my experience so far I won't order from the big chain-store pizza joints again. The quality of the pizza is very very good, the crust is excellent, it's fresh and it's TASTEY! If I had to find a negative I'd have to say that there's not a ton of selection and, as it's strictly a take-away or delivery place, there's no ambience to speak of (other than the terrific aroma) but that's fine... I won't ask them to be something they are not. What they do, they do very well so my review: Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
