Satisfying dinner
Submitted Monday, October 13, 2014 - 9:18am [Dine in]

Good food. Decent service. The suede chairs were oversized and super cozy. Food arrived in a timely manner. Our server was busy running around attending to other diners that it took awhile for him to clear our plates. I was not in a hurry so did not mind. I think it is a good late night option as well as I saw many diners stopping by for drinks or food.

Come here if you have 2 hrs for your drinks and food to arrive
Submitted Friday, November 27, 2009 - 10:25pm [Dine in]

I haven’t been here for a long while. Since I was in the area, I suggested going here for bubble tea. Bad idea. When we arrived, we were seated immediately and given the menu. However, it took 25 minutes to flag a server down to take our orders. There were at least four people working on the floor/walking around so we didn’t understand why it was so hard to just place an order. We were waving down the servers who were passing by our table multiple times and they gave us blank stares, continued walking past our table while ignoring us or acknowledged us and never returned when they were just standing around walking in circles/the occasional chat amongst themselves. If they were actually super busy bringing drinks/food to the customers, it would have been a bit more reasonable and understanding. Finally, one server who was standing near the cash register told this other server to come by our table and we finally got our orders down: one strawberry mango slush, one lychee calpico slush and beef noodle soup. The drinks came by fairly quickly 5 minutes after our orders, but the noodle soup took another 30 minutes after we were almost done with our drinks. I started watching other tables near ours and two tables down the people were served faster than us! At least they got their orders in less than the time it took us. Noodles were not good. It deserves two stars. You are better off going to Taiwanese noodle restaurants that actually specialize in this. Soup was very bland and greasy with one piece of bac choy and a few slices of beef. The drinks are the only items you should order here. Average priced for the noodles while bubble teas costs a bit more compared to other places. Ambiance is nice with a modern feel and caters mostly to the young Asian crowd. I had to apologize to the people I dragged with me to this place because I felt that bad putting people through this service. If you come here, just order bubble tea and be prepared to wait. We got up to pay at the cash register as we didn’t want a repeat of another 25 minutes to get the bill!

Yummy Lunch Special
Submitted Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - 10:50pm [Dine in]

I came here for the lunch special. For under $10, you get your choice of butter chicken or goat curry, one daily veggie curry, one dessert of the day, two pieces of tandoori chicken and rice. Fluffy, warm and buttered naan was served on the side. Food was solid and very filling. The special was very popular as I can see all the other tables ordering the same item. They also have a veggie lunch special for $9 in which you get 3 veggie curries plus rice and dessert. It does not seem like the restaurant offers a buffet anymore when I looked over their menu. Server came by regularly to refill our water.

I was told that this place was recently renovated. Very nice and inviting décor. Cherry wood tables and chairs. Place was dimly lit for an afternoon lunch. You wouldn’t have expected that from the outside which looks like it needs a renovation itself. Background music was interesting. I got to listen to Indian rap and pop. None of which I can understand, but it sets a nice ambiance.

Good Food
Submitted Wednesday, November 11, 2009 - 8:54pm [Dine in]

I came here with a large group of people. Restaurant was very accommodating with changes to reservation. Food was really good, but not amazing and out of this world. Portions for the price were large. Lobster bisque was super spicy. I did notice a strong fish sauce aroma to my coconut cream scallops entree. The thai tea ice cream was tasty! Good service. Worth another visit.

Good Food and Great View
Submitted Sunday, September 6, 2009 - 1:18pm [Dine in]

I came here during the weekday with a friend. There was live music and the place was dimly lit. We were quickly seated and a server showed us what their specials were promptly. We decided to order off their regular menu. They had a fixed menu for $35 in which I was not tempted to try as the offerings did not appeal to me.

Food was tasty and well prepared. Service was pleasant. The server was not too intrusive and we contently enjoyed our meal. Dessert was delicious. I had the chocolate mousse which had a velvety texture. My only complaint is the candied fruit/ginger they sprinkled on top with the whipping cream.

The view was beautiful. The ambiance was alright. I find this place to look a bit dated, but nonetheless, the food worth the drive to try at least once.

Delicious Dim Sum
Submitted Sunday, September 6, 2009 - 12:59pm [Dine in]

I was pleasantly surprised of the food at this restaurant. Came here on a Sunday and we were seated just before the line ups began.

Service was better than expected. A list is provided where you check off what you want. A good selection of about 40 items is offered at $2.50 each. Other items are offered at different prices. I also prefer this method of food service as the food is usually fresher than those that sit in the carts to be pushed around regularly. Food came by fairly quickly and tasted really good. Shrimp dumplings were well prepared. The dumpling skin did not fall apart and wasn’t too doughy. Place is a bit cramped, but I can tolerate it for the good food and price.

Good Thai Lunch
Submitted Friday, August 28, 2009 - 2:02pm [Dine in]

Came here with my friend for lunch. This restaurant offered a small selection of lunch specials. I had the yellow curry with chicken and my friend had the pad thai with chicken. Both were $8.99 that came with a small salad and two spring rolls. Salad was tasty, but had a little too much dressing and the spring rolls were hot and crispy. Overall, food was well-prepared and fresh.

Service was good. We didn't wait too long for our food to arrive. Ambiance is interesting. Bright green walls.

Solid Dinner Combinations
Submitted Wednesday, August 12, 2009 - 2:40pm [Dine in]

I find that their dim sum is alright. They have all the standard dim sum you would find in most chinese restaurants, but I do wish they offered more variety. However, I don't frequently this place offen enough to see if they had improved on selection since my last visit there.

Dinner is what I like best about this restaurant. For starters, their dinner combinations are of great value for the amount of food you get. Also, there is an English menu. A major advantage when you do not read Chinese! I find that to be rarity in many chinese restaurants where you do not get the full food selection because you can't read the menu or you have to bring someone who knows what to order/knows how to read the menu.

Food is freshly prepared. The restaurant is always busy on weekends so that is a good sign. They are willing to make changes to dishes when you ask them and they inform us in advance of the extra charges (e.g. changing the veggies to something else).

The service is pretty much what I expect from an average chinese restaurant. They clear your plates about once or twice during the course of the meal. They were quick to bring us ice water when we asked. Great value for the combination dinners. I highly recommend it over a la carte.

Ambiance is okay. Wall color is pink as mentioned in the previous review. The tables are a bit too close to each other and the place is so busy and loud. I would suggest going really early or late for dinner if you do not want to wait too long for your food to come.

Solid Lunch Buffet
Submitted Saturday, August 8, 2009 - 9:27am [Dine in]

Came here with my sister to try their lunch buffet as we were in the area. For just under $8, it was a great value.

Food: Small selection. However, the food was mostly very flavorful. The chicken samoas were really good. You can actually taste the chicken when you bite into it. The curries were also very good. The tandoori chicken was a bit dry. Naan was awesome. Warm and fluffy.

Service: Server came by regularly to refill our water. He cleared our dishes promptly.

Value: Can't beat that price!!! Way better than the food court if you don't mind paying the extra few dollars. Plus, more selection.

Ambiance: I sort of warmed up to the orange walls. Clean restarant with tile floors that matched the walls well.

Will go back!

Came here with my family. Amazing view. Attentive server. He had a good sense of humor.

Food: Overall, really good presentation and flavor. I really enjoyed the egg noodle tagliatelle. Plenty of clams.

Service: We were seated shortly after we arrived. Server checked up on us a couple times. It wasn't intrusive.

Value: It's what you would expect for fine dining.

Ambiance: The view is amazing. The decor isn't everyone's cup of tea. I find it to be a bit on the rustic/old fashion.

Solid AYCE Restaurant
Submitted Sunday, August 2, 2009 - 3:25pm [Dine in]

Came here with two other ppl for $13.95 AYCE for the late night special. Food was was you would expect from AYCE. The same item (oyster motoyaki) was missed in both rounds of ordering. We had to ask the someone else to get that order through twice. Items usually get missed anyways so no big concern. Food came quickly. Some of the items were cold and I assume they were prepared earlier (e.g. tempura). Tea was refilled without asking. Good service. Friendly staff. Solid value, Good ambiance. Clean restaurant.

I really wanted to cool off so I convinced my sister to go here. Should have went next door to get a smoothie instead. The quality of the ice cream is comparable to what you would get at a grocery store. The mango lassi was okay. I've had better ones elsewhere. Service was average. The place wasn't clean. Supplies everywhere. I didn't even ask for a sample because I believe they reused the spoons and I question how well they clean it. My sister just picked a random flavor and we left shortly afterwards.

Pho not impressive
Submitted Saturday, July 25, 2009 - 6:20pm [Dine in]

Came here with two other friends as one of them recommending this place. First impression of the pho I ordered: Not much toppings, mostly noodles, soup tasted bland. I've had better pho elsewhere. Also, they only provided us bean sprouts and lemon. No basil or chilli pepper. I didn't bother to ask for the basil as the servers were busy speaking in their own language.

Service was okay. Didn't expect much to start with. We had to wave the server for her attention to take our orders. We also had to wave her down to get her to fill our water. Nothing impressive.

Value: Standard prices. I find the portions to be a bit on the smaller size. But if you want to fill yourself up with anything, this will do.

Ambiance: It was tidy. The sun was glaring as the restaurant faces the sun at the time of day we were there. It really hurt my eyes as I was stuck sitting facing the direction of the glass store front. They do have blinds, but it didn't do the job.

Needs Improvement
Submitted Wednesday, July 22, 2009 - 5:31pm [Dine in]

Came here with a group of friends and was surprised how empty the place was for 7pm on a Saturday. We each ordered off the 3 course menu for $25. I ordered the crab lollipops, roasted rack of lamb and white chocolate berry tart. Overall, presentation was good. Crab lollipops had actual crab meat that you can see and taste. I’ve paid more elsewhere where it tasted more like breadcrumbs. The lamb was well prepared. I was not a big fan of the squash cubes though. The dessert was large, but was too sweet for my taste. I couldn’t finish it. It was literally a tart filled with mix berries and smothered in white chocolate. It is an extremely rich dessert. If I were to order again, I would opt for lemon sorbet. On the whole, the food was alright.

It’s a lounge environment, but I found it unacceptable/odd to be seated in folding chairs when we had made reservations for 8 people. There wasn’t enough room so they created a table by the entrance and placed folding seats for us. I believe the restaurant should be a bit better prepared for larger groups and make the experience a bit more comfortable. Service was extremely slow from the beginning to end. Never knew where our server was to refill our drinks and food took over an hour for the main course to arrive. There was a stagette going on, and a table of 2 seated near the fireplace. Also, the place looked really empty for a weekend. There is potential for this place if they can make some minor adjustments on seating and service.

I've seen this place while shopping in the area and decided to give this place a visit with two others. We were craving hot pot, but decided to try their sukiyaki instead.

Food: Selection was very decent for just under $15/person. More options on their other menu, but we were nevertheless very satisfied. It costs extra for sauces and other food items. Meat and veggies were very fresh, clean and nicely prepared. Potions varied though for the veggies (e.g. the amount of mushrooms changed each time we ordered even though we checked off one portion). The meat selection was chicken, beef and pork and we were content with that. There were sqiud tubes and tentacles in their seafood option of that menu. Good veggie selection (e.g. winter melon, onions, yam, carrots) and a variety of tofu to choose from. Sauces cost an extra dollar, but we didn't order any as the food was flavorful enough. My friend kept pouring the extra soya sauce they gave us into his bowl cuz he was really enjoying the flavor. The soya sauce was meant to replenish our sukiyaki sauce that was cooking our food!

Service: It was great and prompt. We were quickly seated when we arrived at around 8pm. No line up during the hot weather and it was a weekday. Food came quickly with each order we made. We did have to get our server's attention to refill water and I think she was amused at watching my friend repeatedly pour soya sauce into his bowl.

Vaule: Well priced for all you can eat and comparable to other establishments.

Ambiance: Modern. We were seated in one of the booths. Seats seem to shake as we moved in our seats. Maybe it was just that booth. Well ventilated, well lit and sort of clean. My friend's seat was dirty, but the rest of the place looked clean.

Will go back to try their other menu as well!

Decent Tea House
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 4:57pm [Dine in]

This is a tea house in the New West area. All food items are average priced and there is quite a bit of variety to choose from. Just a warning. The food takes a long time to get to your table so plan ahead if you are in a hurry. Food is the typical taiwanese-style food. Nice presentation. A bit on the smaller side. My favorites are the bubble tea drinks. It's a four star for the drinks. A really good selection made with real fruit. None of the horrible powder stuff you can sometimes get elsewhere. The drinks start at $3.25 without pearls. There are seats and tables in the restaurant for you to sit down if you wanted to. The place is clean and well-kept. I think it's mostly students visiting the place during the day as Douglas College is right across the street.

Awesome Pizza Crust!!
Submitted Friday, June 12, 2009 - 12:44pm [Dine in]

Ordered a one topping medium pizza for $7.99. The crust was fluffy. Definitely one of the better pizza crusts I've tasted. Topping selection was the usually selection you get anywhere. We picked italian sausage just to change it from the usual pepperoni we get. There was enough sauce to go with the crust. I would have liked it if they filled the pizza with a bit more toppings though as the sausage bits were really spaced apart. The donair and one can of pop combo for $6.49 was a decent value. Not as much meat as I would like, but still tasted really good expecially since I was really hungry. Lettuce, tomatoes and onions went well with the sauce.

Service was good and fast. The amibiance was bearable. There were crumbs on the tables. Also, very stuffy inside as we waited for the food. It is pretty much what you would expect from most pizza joints aimed at delivery or take out.

Some good selection of flavors!
Submitted Sunday, June 7, 2009 - 3:10pm [Dine in]

Good selection of flavors. The staff was generous with the sample sizes. It's $3.75 for one scoop and $6 for two. Pretty standard pricing. The single scoop was on the smaller size. The double scoop is comparable to some of the other places I've tired. The gelato is really good. Flavorful and creamy. I find the gelato to be on the sweeter side, but it may just be the random flavors I tried.

Service is average. They just give you what you ask for. Not much outstanding service to expect here. The staff looked kind of bored at times. The place isn't very busy so it was nice that we had seats to enjoy the gelato. The place was clean. Good display of their other treats which I plan to try eventually.

The gelato is amazing and tasty. I might have to say that it's one of the best I've tried. I had tiramisu and raspberry. They were what they are suppose to taste like! Creamy, and flavorful.

Service was okay. It was fast, but the staff didn't look too happy working there. Great value. The pricing is about the same as elsewhere for the amount of gelato you get. Two ice-cream sized scoops (any two flavors) for $3.75 or four scoops for $6. There are additional sizes to pick as well. Ambiance was good. It was clean and tidy. There were actually seats for us to sit down and enjoy the gelato.

Good Food and Value
Submitted Saturday, May 30, 2009 - 3:54pm [Dine in]

We came to this restaurant because of the name at first, but we were pleasantly surprised at how good food was. At first we had second thoughts about dining here as there was only 2 customers, but we decided to give this place a try. Then all of sudden, a flood of customers came in and the place was almost packed and noisy. I think the owner gave us the menu when we first seated. She didn't greet us or smile and just placed the menu on our table. However, it might just be her personality. On the other hand, the server was really friendly and good at her job.

We ordered the Box Ume, Chicken Udon, and Agadashi Tofu. All were really tasty and nicely presented. The dinner box had enough variety for two people to share and well priced at under $9. Chicken udon was a bit on the salty side. They didn't use plastic bowls for the udon and tofu which adds a bit more of a home-cooked meal touch! Well priced for all the food items. Some of the items costs a bit more than average such as the salmon nigiri. The menu mentioned it was wild salmon so that probably explains the added costs.

Service was a bit on the slow side, but it was understandable as the place was almost full shortly after we came in and only one server.

Ambiance is cute as the previous review mentioned. There's a lot of Japanese themed items on the walls.

Will go back to try their other food items.
