BBT run
Submitted Saturday, October 10, 2009 - 5:34pm [Dine in]

Went with a friend last night for a drink. I visit this place once in a blue moon as there are other bubble tea places around that open late.

Drink: As one of my last review, I have visited the other location in Vancouver and was really enjoying the snow bubble drinks. So last night I decided to try the pineapple snow bubble. It was alright to me but was a bit sour, so next time i'll probably stick with the honeydew one.

Value: As mentioned before, overpriced drinks for a regular so not much value.

Verdict: Will go back once in a blue moon for my snow bubble cravings. 7.5 out of 10

Good bbt at a premium
Submitted Tuesday, September 22, 2009 - 5:19pm [Dine in]

Been to the sister location in richmond and food/drinks always consistent and fairly pricey.

Drink: I usually order a honey milk tea at many bbt places to gauge the vibe of the joint. The drink ordered was surprisingly delicious almost par to bubbleworld.

Value: For drinks it is fairly expensive as mentioned, only ordered a drink this time and it came to $3.75 for a small, if add 75 cents more you get a slightly bigger size. Two sizes are just kinda strange to me but I guess that's how they make more money on you. It wasn't all bad as they have good deals for food, ie. salty pepper chicken w/rice and milk tea is $8 which is an awesome deal.

Verdict: I would definately come back for on the food and drink deal. If you get a drink alone, you might as well go to bubbleworld and save some cash.

good dim sum close to home
Submitted Monday, September 21, 2009 - 5:03pm [Dine in]

After living close to 4 years in the renfrew area, this is the first time going to this restaurant. Indeed it was not a bad experience.

Service: Pretty standard service for a dim sum place, teas refilled, food delivered to our table fast piping hot.

Food: majority of the dishes were very delicious, especially with the bean curd wrapped in pork and veggys with delicious broth.

Value: Heres the down side with my review. Food was not cheap at all from what you expect from Van east side, no offence. For the prices that range from 3:95 and up, I would expect it from Richmond top of the line restaurants like kirin, sun sui wah. We had 7 dishes comes to $37 tips include.

Verdict: I'm always open to trying new places and I will still continuing doing that.

Nothing to write home about
Submitted Monday, September 14, 2009 - 1:55pm [Dine in]

Went here for dim sum with parents since they changed owners. Saw a sign outside $2.75 a dish all day.

Food: The only highlight for is the baked spareribs on rice and the steamed stuffed bean curds. Tried the shrimp dumpling and the shu mai which was just average. my hunch was right, based on average food, everything else is just that.

Service: the place was not entirely packed as we were seated right away and which tea we wanted. Service was pretty good with attentive service throughout and greeted us when we left.

Value: 9 dishes with seventy cents per person for tea, would say it isn`t too bad for 35 including tip.

Verdict: Been there done that, moving on.

Green tea icecream craving
Submitted Thursday, September 10, 2009 - 5:23pm [Dine in]

I go to Dragon Ball BBT religiously once or twice a month due to the perfect pearls they deliver.

Drink: I always order the japanese green tea icecream or milky strawberry slush and has always been consistently up to my standards.

Service: Whenever I go, i'm always taken my order by the man in the snoopy apron (the owner). Whenever I order, he repeats it to me cuz he remembers my order exactly. Talk about my patronage over time. It does get extremely busy at nights with lineups but everyone seems to be patient.

Verdict: I will always been at Dragon Ball whenever I get my BBt with perfect pearls craving. 9.5 out of 10 rating

Afternoon meeting
Submitted Wednesday, September 9, 2009 - 4:19pm [Dine in]

Went here to meet a friend this afternoon. Been to this place only a couple times, ntohing too special but really close to my house.

Food: Typical taiwanese food, I had ordered the Beef Noodle soup with a honey milk tea. My friend ordered the vericelli laksa with milk tea. The beef tasted really good, different kinda cut of meat (not beef brisket but more like tendon style). Honey milk tea tasted pretty good, better than some similar places in richmond, which is a plus on my books.

Value: They had a food and drink special which was a pretty good deal. $7.95 for my meal plus a dollar for my drink for the lunch special. Value is there for sure.

Verdict: Quiet place to chat up and stay for how long you want to without being bothered and has Wi-fi and close to home location...can't be beat. 8.5 out of 10 thumbs up!

Bento box delight
Submitted Saturday, September 5, 2009 - 8:01pm [Dine in]

Been here a number of times for lunch and dinner and each time was very good. This time me and my friend walked in, I guess they changed owners as the previous ones were japanese, now the current owners are from mainland china...interesting.

Food: My friend had the chicken teriyaki box, I had the beef teriyaki and both were really delicious. Saw their daily special for 2.99 chicken wings and when given to us it came up to 2 medium sized wings. Too pricy for small but crispy wings, too bad. Overall value was there for the bento boxes.

Service: Service was there and the waitress...looks like the owner was very attentive, teas were topped up and empties were taken away appropriately.

Verdict: Nothing against chinese running a japanese place but should keep it authentic japanese people running it all together. 8.5 out of 10 in my books, will have a return visit.

lunch with parents
Submitted Friday, September 4, 2009 - 9:06pm [Dine in]

Parents suggested to have some lunch here because of the hype.

Food: Order beef brisket noodle soup, wonton soup and stir fry beef rice noodle. We thought the food was not that salty and too oily which is a good thing, but in a way it was pretty bland and tastes more like food court style food.

Value: I would say the prices vary by items. Some items are pricier and cheaper than other HK style cafes.

Verdict: One time experience only to see what the hype was, tried it and moving on. 6.5 out of 10 is my rating.

good dinner combo deal
Submitted Wednesday, September 2, 2009 - 10:12pm [Dine in]

Went to Kam Do for dinner with a friend. Felt like eating a lot mode from doing strenuous exercise.

Food: I ordered the legendary set dinner includes soup, garlic bread salad, sparkling pop, cold drink, baked italian seafood spaghetti and dessert. Friend had the chicken wing and bacon appy, cold drink, salad, bread, soup and baked spaghetti with turkey meat and dessert. Also ordered the gai lan side for a buck.

Value: My meal was around 12 and my friend's is $11. Very good deal as we cannot finish the main meal so basically 2 meals in one.

Verdict: Will come back again if craving for a heavy meal. A rating of 9 out of 10.

BBT and meal sitdown fav
Submitted Wednesday, September 2, 2009 - 12:10am [Dine in]

Went for mid afternoon bite here with a friend. Been here a couple times only and each time it has met my expectations.

Food: My friend ordered the Beef Noodle Soup with GoGo Milk Tea, I ordered the Popcorn Chicken Noodle soup with Honey Milk Tea. Both of the meals was excellant. The noodles tasted really good as they seem like it was home-made. The drinks are also really delicious and my friend had the mini coffee jelly which is kinda cool.

Service: Not really busy at the time of dining so servers were really attentive.

Verdict: Will always return if I have another taiwanese food and BBT craving. I would rate 9.5 out of 10.

good breakfast
Submitted Wednesday, September 2, 2009 - 12:05am [Dine in]

Have been going to Angel Cafe for a long time now. Had breakfast lunch and dinner here and all the time was good.

Food: I always enjoy their A and B set breakfast meal that includes a drink. Food is always consistant and it doesn't taste generic.

Value: Food is always on the non-expensive side whether you are having any meals here. For luch or mid-afternoon tea, I really recommend the hainese chicken laksa.

Verdict: I will be a regular customer. Rating of 9 out of 10.

Had my pho fix
Submitted Monday, August 31, 2009 - 10:52pm [Dine in]

Went here on a monday afternoon for my usual fix. I have been going to this location for years now so it is my go-to pho place during the day.

Food: The pho noodles and the meat is always decent, not bland nor too plain. I love the beef soup broth. The spring roll I get always crispy, not too oily.

Service: Average service, kinda hard to wave down a waitress if the place is packed but normally it is ok. Funny how you have to go up to the front to pay your bill instead of the waitress giving it to you at your table.

Value: Love their daily special of a large bowl of pho and 1 spring roll at $8.50. Can't go wrong with this price at all.

Verdict: Will always be a patron at this pho place. My rating is 8 out of 10.

food and value solid
Submitted Thursday, August 27, 2009 - 10:50am [Dine in]

Went to this place with a friend last night. Place is dark and dead considering it is a week night.

Food: I had the chicken and ribs and my friend had the assorted meat spaghetti dish and both ordered the bubble milk tea. The chicken and ribs were really delicious, the ribs were fall off the bone taste compare something like tony romas. However, a downside is the portion side was a little small. My friend said his dish wasn't bad at all.

Value: As for value, it was just average compared to other HK cafe. However, both meals added extra $2.00 for milk teas plus one free refill so that is a plus on my books.

Verdict: I would give this place a 7 out of 10 overall. I would return to this place but not too frequently as there are so many other HK cafes out there.

good for one time only
Submitted Monday, August 24, 2009 - 4:44pm [Dine in]

Decided to try this place based on good reviews and close location.

Service: In the beginning, it was a bit lacking seeing that there were only 2 servers on. Had to wait for a couple mins and was seated and the restaurant was just half full. After being seated, got my water and my order in. But getting my food was a different story, had to wait around 15-20mins.

Food: Ordered the Negi ramen, which had a really good broth taste, not too salty and noodles were chewy. However, the downfall had to be the cha shu pieces. They were pure pig fats on skin which I had to remove so I can survive another meal without a heart attack.

Verdict: As stated, first time and last time. There are other ramen house that tastes better and is better for servicewise. Out of 10 I would rate this place a 4.
