Not enough choices to be a buffet
Submitted Monday, October 30, 2006 - 8:29pm [Dine in]

Went there for the dinner buffet. There wasn't much to choose from, esp. if you're a vegetarian (my poor friend...). And the items that were available were just ok, nothing out of the ordinary or very good at that. Just ok. I've had much better butter chicken, much better naan, much better rice, etc. The desserts were also very disappointing. Not much in the way of service since it is a buffet. Wouldn't go back for the food.

Easy to miss...
Submitted Saturday, October 14, 2006 - 4:28am [Dine in]

Bf decided to take me here for my b-day and it was a very good dining experience and I'm glad we were able to find the place! The restaurant is quite hidden and we managed to drive by it 3 times before spotting it. I think it's because of the signage of the restaurants on either side of it drowns out the appearance of this place.

The food was absolutely excellent. We ordered the wrapped tenderloin, lavender lamb chops, vegetable springrolls, sea-scallops and tiger prawns - yin yang style, seafood capellini and very berry cheesecake to end things off. Everything tasted really great and if I had to choose favorites, I would go with the seafood capellini and sea-scallops and tiger prawns - would def. go back just to have these 2 dishes again! The only thing disappointing was the cheesecake - the middle was still frozen but the parts that weren't frozen were very tasty. Martinis were amazing as well - try the baby pink!

Server was actually really friendly and I would've given it 5 stars if she hadn't been so forgetful. Everytime she would clear our plates away, she would also take away our cutlery but she would forget to replace it! This happened at least 3 times and we ended up just getting the cutlery and dishes ourselves from a nearby table. It's also a shame that dishes come out one by one since it would have been much better dining experience if we had 2 or 3 dishes to work on at once.

The restaurant is quite clean and has really nice lighting - great place to take a date. Would def. considering returning to dine here again, if only for the capellini and scallops and prawns!

Over-priced, Over-boobed
Submitted Sunday, September 24, 2006 - 5:24pm [Dine in]

Food is actually quite good but over-priced for what you get. The rack of ribs were delicious but not worth the price paid. The JD Chicken Burger is always a good pick but can sometimes be too soggy so have to order tomatoes on the side to avoid it. Quesadillas were soggy as well so avoid at all costs. Most of the appies are very tasty but come in very small portions so it's disappointing when you receive it. This place used to be reasonable but for some reason, everytime I go back, the prices seem to be a little more inflated.

Service is absolutely atrocious - I'm not even sure if we even had a server! I think all that saline/plastic in their chests are going to their brains cuz it was just horrible. No drink refills, waiting forever to order, not getting orders right.... it just wouldn't end.

One of the better locations
Submitted Sunday, September 24, 2006 - 5:07pm [Dine in]

Even though I live 5 min away from the Nordel location, I always find myself coming back to this one because of the superior service and food. Cactus cut potatoes are always crispier, lasagna always served piping hot and servers you can flag down and get help is awesome! We're always greeted as soon as we enter and have no trouble being seated right away. Servers actually come to check up on you and refill waters. Be sure to drop in on Tuesdays for Pasta Tuesday!

I recommend that anyone who lives in Delta go to this location instead of the one on Nordel one for superior food and service!! I also know the former manager and one of the former bus boys at the Nordel location and, believe me, don't eat there.

Late night bite
Submitted Sunday, September 24, 2006 - 5:01pm [Dine in]

As it is only one of a handful of places to eat late at night (after 1 am), the bf and I stopped in for a quick bite before heading home at around 2 am. The food was pretty good for what you get late night but the calamari is just complete garbage. It was soggy and all of the batter was falling off even before we touched it. It looked as though it were undercooked. Chicken strips were good, burger was alright.

Servers were doing their best to accomodate the swarms of people coming in after a night of clubbing, etc. You could tell they were very stressed, esp. with the people being really rowdy and they were just too tired to serve properly. I actually felt kind of bad for them.

Overall, I would probably come back if I ever needed to eat something late night and didn't want fast food, esp. when Denny's on Scott Rd serves raw chicken and hair in their food.

Night with incredible ahi tuna
Submitted Saturday, September 16, 2006 - 12:57pm [Dine in]

Upon entering, I immediately wanted to sit outside in their patio area. It was nicely warmed and exuded a nice conversational atmosphere. There wasn't any room outside so we were seated inside and assured that once there was a table free, they would come to get us. I was skeptical that they would remember but 15 minutes in, they moved us out onto the patio. This place has some of the best service I've ever received and I wasn't even eating a meal!

I tried ahi tuna for the first time and just fell in love with it and I have a feeling its because of the way it was prepared here. Spring rolls were also a delight - comes with 3 different yummy sauces. The only qualms I had with the food was it was very overpriced for the portions received. We basically had 3 martinis and 2 appies and it was already hitting the $60 mark. Def. not for the light wallets.

I would highly recommend this place for dates and small intimate get togethers but make sure you bring your wallet cuz it's gonna take a heavy hit!

Go Astroboy!!
Submitted Saturday, September 16, 2006 - 12:49pm [Dine in]

Once you walk into this place, it feels like you've walked into a hallucination of some sort. Very ecclectic mix of toys (Astroboy!!), paper mache monsters, light fixtures and other things that kind of throw you off into thinking this is a hip place with sub-par food but the eatery showed me! Their rolls are amazing! I highly recommend the salmon crunch and dynomite rolls! They were gone off the plate in no time. Chicken teriyaki was also very good but needed more sauce. The only thing that bothered me a lot was the miso soup and gyoza that came to us luke warm. These items should be served piping hot so they must've been sitting on some hot plate before they were served to us.

The wait was about 20 min on a Friday night so it wasn't too bad. Once we were seated however, the server forgot to give us menus so we had to track her down to get some menus. "The Zebra" (aka our waitress) was quite nice and came to check on us every so often and was pretty good despite forgotten waters.

The music volume was nice when we first stepped in and sat down but for some reason they turned it up even louder and after that, no conversation could be had without saying, "what did u say? huh?". We sat by the window which was actually a little dirty so I was careful not to touch anything and they need to clean their candleholders cuz the wax started dripping over onto the table and window ledge. Lighting was nice - not too light, not too dark. I would highly recommend to any of my friends but this is def. not a joint parents would enjoy.

Out of place
Submitted Saturday, September 16, 2006 - 12:37pm [Dine in]

It's located in the renovated Surrey Central Mall and I honestly would've skipped by it if I had been driving by. If it hadn't been for my bf and his bf, I would have never gone in but sure glad that I did. They have this really yummy pizza with a thin crust and if it hadn't been a little over-priced, I would have given it 5 stars for food. Sandwiches and burgers are pretty tasty as well.

Been a hit and miss in terms of service. Sometimes the service is pretty attentive but other times I wonder if the server has gone home and forgotten about us.

A really great place with a funky bar to sit down to (it changes colors!!). Music gets a little bit loud but that's alright. Live music on some days. Booths are really comfy and roomy. Bathrooms are clean (yay! - finally a place in Surrey with a clean bathroom!). My only qualms is its location that sits on the border between dodgy and suburban areas so I would hesistant to come if I had to drive by myself.

When you go out of your way to avoid this location...
Submitted Friday, August 11, 2006 - 9:18pm [Dine in]

Food: Very hit and miss but usually more miss than anything. Had spinach dip here once that was completely cold and could not be eaten. Tortellini came half cooked - some were cooked, others were cold. Soggy cactus cut potatoes. I honestly drive an extra 15 min to the next boston pizza just to avoid this one because it's just horrible.

Service: Very spotty. Sometimes we get excellent service while other times it's been horrible. We were once greeted by a young fellow that didn't even look at us while he spoke - he kept looking at the ceiling. Servers are forgetful and bring the wrong orders.

Ambiance: Nice since this location is new but it's just like any other boston pizza. Just a place to go since everything else is closed. Or if it's Pasta Tuesday.

Great pizza and sandwiches!
Submitted Wednesday, August 9, 2006 - 8:33pm [Dine in]

Food: Gotta love the thin crusts! Honestly one of the best tasting pizzas ive had in a long time. Chicken sandwich was great as well! Like how they make everything fresh. Had one of those combos that come with free refills which comes in pretty handy.

Service: Just go up and order ur pizza or whatever it is you want and they hand it to you. Nothing special.

Ambiance: Just a bunch of tables and chairs - again, nothing special. Just a place for a quick bite to eat.

Food: Ordered a mini set meal for lunch. I had the Malaysian fried noodle and it was ok - lots of shrimp but really quite bland. I've def. had much better fried noodle elsewhere. Steaks do not look very appetizing. Sauces taste like it came out of a can.

Service: Not very organized and spotty at best.

Ambiance: Quite nice on the inside and if we hadn't been in a hurry, we couldve stayed and talked for a while.

Submitted Saturday, August 5, 2006 - 12:40am [Dine in]

Food: Everything was just ok. Nothing really stood out. Satays were too small to be work 1.20 ea. Radish cake was nice. Deep-fried tofu fell apart when dipping. Roti was oily and dipping sauce a little on the bland side. Overall, there was nothing much too it.

Service: Felt like we were rushed out. No water anywhere!! Had to ask repeatedly for water refills.

Ambiance: Quite nice and if we hadn't been rushed out, it would have been a nice place to sit and eat dessert and just hang out.

No bang for my buck!
Submitted Saturday, July 29, 2006 - 10:26pm [Dine in]

Food: Disappointing scallops - was served in a sauce that was almost sandy in texture and felt like I was biting into granules of sand as I chewed. Salmon burger was very plain and chicken burger was ok but fries and salad with both dishes was atrocious - fries were burnt and limp while salad was underdressed and over-cheesed. Extremely disappointing for the price that was paid - I felt extremely unsatisfied by the quality of the food being served and really regretful that the Keg hadn't been open. The only good thing was the drinks - triples for approx $7.

Service: Average - nothing to rave about and nothing to complain of either.

Ambiance: Had to sit at the bar as the rest of the restaurant was closed due to the late hour (9ish).

I know that the quality of food may have been due to the time but if that is the case, discount the food or just tell us you're going to be serving sub-par food so we might go elsewhere and not end up feeling so ripped off!

Is it THE King?
Submitted Saturday, July 29, 2006 - 10:16pm [Dine in]

Food: I've had much better at other chinese restaurants. Their shanghai noodle was wet, their honey garlic spareribs were too fatty, their fish fried rice didn't have enough fish (supposed to be a strong odor) and other dishes were just lacking in ingredients like their sweet and sour soup which tasted great but didn't contain anything substantial.

Service: Really nice servers that even gave us extra dessert! Food came out really fast which could explain the less than stellar quality of food.

Ambiance: Just another run of the mill chinese hole-in-the-wall restaurant. It really bugged me that they play chinese movies in the restaurant but the entire time that we were there, it was left in the menu section of the DVD and no one bothered to press play.

Broken service button??
Submitted Thursday, July 20, 2006 - 12:31am [Dine in]

Food: Pretty good but nothing that would knock my socks off tho. Their trio sauce rice was pretty tasty and gives a nice kick to a plain fried rice. Too bad all the sauces were leaked onto each other when we got it and it looked nothing like the picture in the menu (i.e. not nearly as appetizing). Prices were a little higher but portions a little bigger.

Service: There is a service button at every table but no one helped us even when we pressed it. Had to ask for tea refills a few times. Slow.

Ambiance: Much cleaner than some of the other cafes I've been to. Nice and spatious and is actually kind of neat to sit in. Wouldn't mind taking others here.

I would like a side of bacon with my bacon
Submitted Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 3:29am [Dine in]

Food: Love the strawberry topping that you can choose to get with your pancakes but really wish there was an option for waffles but I guess that would defeat the whole namesake of the joint. Bacon is usually cooked great but sometimes a little undercooked for my liking. Eggs come from a carton but I don't think it bothers me too much. Presentation left to be desired.

Service: A very nice older lady served us and she was just on the ball about everything. Refills were done, sauces were offered and she checked up on us at nice intervals. Really felt like service.

Ambiance: Needs a serious renovation. Clean but drab.

Submitted Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 3:23am [Dine in]

Food: Not really worth the price that you're paying. For some reason, the prices of dishes just keep going up despite little or no improvement. Nothing innovative and if anything, a cheap grasp on what is asian (which seems to centre around many of the dishes they offer now). The only thing I can order from this place without feeling completely ripped off is the BBQ chicken burger. They also have an amazing dill dip that goes really good with fries. Ribs are great but a complete rip off for the price.

Service: Hot but devoid of intelligence is the only way I can describe the servers. They don't refill anything and can barely get orders right. I'm quite sure most people just come to ogle the waitresses but I guess if that's what you need to keep your restaurant afloat then more power to you... Really long wait for tables. They don't take reservations for large parties on the weekends which is their loss and Sammy J. Pepper's gain.

Ambiance: Really nice place to hang out and have a few drinks. Again, the asian theme is seen with a few statues of Qin warriors in the back/fireplace area which I think is ridiculous since the design of the rest of restaurant is more chic/japanese in origin. Ehn, c'est la vie - just keep watching the servers and not the environment.

Downhill dive...
Submitted Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 3:14am [Dine in]

Food: It used to be much better but is not spotty at best - sometimes good, sometimes edible and sometimes just downright disappointing. That goes for the california rolls, vegetable rolls, chicken yakisoba, gyoza and others. I guess it just depends on the chef in the kitchen at the moment.

Service: Just going downhill by the moment. Seem to operate on getting you in and out quickly but not leaving a very good impression. Last time we went in, the whole place reeked of bleach or some type of strong cleaner and although only 4-5 tables were occupied, server had to seat us right by the doorway where dishes are washed and where the smell was coming from. I had to be moved or else I would've vomited. And although we have been long time customers, the servers still treat us with disdain. There used to be a manager there we thought was really super nice and he always treated us with respect but ever since he left, everything has just taken a dive.

Ambiance: It reeked of bleach - need I say more?

Only good for discounted price
Submitted Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 3:06am [Dine in]

Food: It's alright for the price but mostly a hit or miss in terms of quality and quantity. Sometimes california rolls are good, sometimes mushy and sometimes just downright ridiculously hard to enjoy. Noodles can be tasty but again, its a hit or miss. I honestly would not come here to eat if I had to pay regular price.

Service: Spotty but better than the Metrotown location - at least they acknowledge your existence. Servers are much friendlier and are more inclined to refill your cups with tea or water.

Ambiance: Much better than the Metrotown location but can still be dingy at times. Again, would not come here unless the food was discounted (lunch hour and after 9 pm).

Submitted Wednesday, July 19, 2006 - 2:57am [Dine in]

Food: Large portions for the price but sometimes a little bland. BBQ chicken is always a safe choice to make. I don't think their wings are that particularly good but there are a large variety of flavors. I really like their calypso burger - one of my favorites.

Service: Always super friendly and nice. A friend knows the manager so we always get great service but everyone else does as well, regardless of whether they know anyone who works there at all.

Ambiance: Nice and clean place to hang out with a great and comfortable interior but the location makes it hard to muster up the effort to drive all the way out there. It kind of sits on the border of a really sketchy area... Remember to lock your car door is all I have to say.
