Worst Pizza Ever
Submitted Tuesday, January 11, 2011 - 9:12pm [Take-out]

We popped in after a hockey game and got one of their Panormous pizzas after seeing the ads. It was the worst pizza I've had in a long time. It was all crust and next to nothing else. It had no sauce, no cheese and next to no toppings.

We called in and lodged a complaint, but the staff weren't interested in making it right. The last time I was at Pizza Hut was a year or so ago for a party and the food was good. Perhaps it is just this small location, or they have gone downhill. We won't be back.

Can Be Special
Submitted Tuesday, November 30, 2010 - 11:21pm [Dine in]

We have been to the Agave Grill twice for dinner. The first time, we left disappointed. The second time, very satisfied. I will admit, we discussed our concerns with Carlos, the manager. He listened to our comments and stepped up to the plate.

Agave Grill occupies the old Waterstone location. It has a couple of very nice rooms that never had a chance before. With the current menu and Carlos at the helm, I think it has a good chance of success.

After sitting down, you will be served a basket of warm, fresh tortilla chips and homemade salsa, just like the Mexican restaurants south of the line. They have all of the tequila drinks that you would expect from a Mexican cantina. Unfortunately, they don't quite make the grade. I'd love to send Carlos down to La Guadalahara in San Diego to see how a Margharita should be made. Oh well, we are north and they are south.

The food is another story. The dishes are tasty, reasonably priced and plentiful. Service is good, however, we found as the restaurant got busier on a Friday night, some of the staff were running and having a hard time keeping up. Good to hire a couple extra staff, and make sure needs are met. I should also point out that there was a table of about 20 celebrating a birthday party just behind us. Still, what better place to do it. They just need to be sure to have the staff to service groups like this.

If you haven't been, check it out. This is a fun place and we need more like it in Langley.

Thanks for a Great Night
Submitted Tuesday, November 30, 2010 - 11:02pm [Dine in]

We had driven by it a hundred times, but hadn't been back for a few years. It was a cold Wednesday night and we didn't feel like cooking.

The Poseidon looks exactly as we remembered it. We got a table next to the fireplace, as did the other 20 or so patrons that night. Everyone seemed quite content.

The service is simple and unpretentious. There isn't alot of staff and they are not decked out in designer garb, but they are friendly, attentive and welcoming. The food is warm and welcoming as well. Large portions, served piping hot. representing great value. We split an order of dolmades as an appetizer. Then had a souvlakia plate and split it. We were stuffed and happy. The chicken was perfectly cooked. It had a mild marinade that gave it flavor, but didn't take away from the perfectly cooked, juicy chicken. We each were served a salad, that was fresh and tasted as if everything was just chopped. The bread basket was overflowing and warm and more then enough.

We had a brief chat with the owner, and he mentioned that his dad passed away a few years ago and he was continuing the tradition. From this visit, we'd say " very well indeed ".

A Real Letdown
Submitted Monday, February 15, 2010 - 10:51pm [Dine in]

My wife and I recently visited for a Valentines night dinner. This was our second time, and we went back because the first time was special.

Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing. Our table was close to the entrance and very drafty.

Our waitress was completely incompetent. We had to ask to order some wine. She brought our salads and couldn't remember who ordered what. There were only 2 choices to pick from. After waiting between courses for a half an hour, she came over and asked if we were waiting for our main course. We said, no, we were waiting for our soup. She brought the wrong ones. Again, there were only 2 to pick from. Then she brought us our main courses and again got the serving wrong.

I think our meal would have been ok, if not for the service. With the lack of service, we were just feeling like we had made a real mistake. Unfortunately a place we once enjoyed and looked forward to, is now a place we will never go to again.

Buyer beware

Good, not Great
Submitted Saturday, November 14, 2009 - 10:14pm [Dine in]

Enjoyed a Saturday night out, mid Nov at Galini's. First time for us. Beautiful decor and very friendly hostess and servers. Top marks all around for the staff. Unfortunately, this is one of those restaurants where the designer gave little thought to the acoustics of the place. It is nicely designed, but full of hard surfaces, and very loud. Add to that, that they choose not to play soothing greek or mediterenean music but rather modern pop crap and everyone ends up yelling just to carry on a conversation. In fact, I would suggest if you are at a table of more then 4, forget about trying to carry on a conversation.

The room also has lots of glass and although it is starting to get cold outside, still isn't quite freezing, more then a few of the patrons were cold. My family kept their coats on as did others around us. To make matters worse, there was a nice fireplace close by and it would have been nice to have it on, but it was off.

On to the food. It was good, not great, but solidly good. The calamari was very nice. The dolmathes were ok, very little sauce which would have rounded it out nicer. The soup was a little pasty and a bit too thick. The greek salad very nice. The shrimps very small and overdone. The puff pastry wrap very fresh and quite fully stuffed. All in all, if the ambience was a bit nicer, we might be quicker to come back. The staff have a great attitude and make you feel welcome. Too bad the room, despite being so nicely decorated is so cold and noisy.

Hit and Miss

I used to go fairly regularly for lunch. Food was usually ok, hot and fairly inexpensive. Service crappy. The waiter couldn't smile if his life depended on it.

Last time I was there, the food was cold and the chicken balls looked like they were left over from the day before. I complained and my attentive waiter as much as told me what you see is what you get. Haven't been back since and don't plan on it. This is a nice neighbourhood and we deserve better.

Nothing special
Submitted Sunday, July 20, 2008 - 11:23pm [Dine in]

We have been to Milestones on a number of occasions, this location and others. My feeling is that the Langley location is just ok and that both the service and food often are a let down.

On this occasion my wife had the Curry Chicken bowl, which she liked. I had the Thai chicken drumettes, which I had often enjoyed but this time they were awful. Seven small chicken wing pieces with lots of batter and very little chicken.

We had a margherita to drink and it was pretty lousy. We are in no rush to go back.

Nice discovery
Submitted Sunday, July 20, 2008 - 11:12pm [Dine in]

My wife and I popped in for lunch last week.

The inside is nicely decorated, but being a nice day we decided to sit outside. I'm afraid the ambience isn't quite up to par, with cranes and building going on all around. As well, the outdoor tables seemed to be situated in a wind tunnel area.

We just ordered a couple drinks, a pizza and a bowl of the Thai chicken and rice soup. The drinks were perfect. We had the impression that someone behind the bar knew what he/she was doing. The pizza had a perfect crust, fresh toppings and was a cut above pretty well anything else in the neighbourhood. And the soup was hot and flavorful. We were quite pleasantly surprised.

The service was attentive, although not all that friendly. It being a nice day, our impression was our young waitress would rather have been somewhere else.

Don't go for the food
Submitted Friday, September 28, 2007 - 8:27pm [Dine in]

Went over tonight for dinner. Nice place, too bad the food stinks. Arrived cold and tasteless. The staff is taking after so many other establishments these days - trying to see who can outdo each other in the fashion department and could care less about the customer.

Melange Restaurant19955 Fraser Highway, Langley
Very Very Nice
Submitted Sunday, March 18, 2007 - 10:11pm [Dine in]

My Wife and I took in Melange tonight. We have probably driven by the place hundreds of times in the past four years without noticing it. What a shame, it's definitely worth noticing.

Not much to look at from the outside. But the inside is tastefully appointed with warm colors, tasteful lighting and pristine table appointments with white tablecloths and fresh flowers. My only concern regarding the ambience was with the music. There are speakers scattered throughout the restaurant over many of the tables, and although the speakers' fidelity is excellent, the music was a bit loud. Moreover, the selection of music was kind of like the Buddha Bar series of music Johnny Depp features in his Paris nightclub. I like this music, but don't see this being the place for it, particularly if you cannot comfortably carry on a conversation. Having said that, our waitress was great. She turned it down right away. Spanish and classical guitar might be more suitable given the ambience, but that's just my two cents worth.

As far as the service and food, everthing was absolutely top notch. We started with a duck and goat cheese tart and crab cakes. Lovely presentations and yummy flavours. Good sized portions as well. Then on to a Moroccan lamb dish and a curried seafood entree. Both were excellent, however, my wifes lamb dish was nothing short of outstanding. It was so tender it just about melted in your mouth. Again, beautifully prepared, with ample portions. Our Creme Brulee for dessert was about as perfect as we could imagine.

Melange gets our vote. We both said we look forward to going back. You know the only sad part. There are tons of people lining up at the chain restaurants that are going to pay about $10 for an appy and $20 for an entree and what they are going to get is just ok. Melange is a whole lot more then ok, it is outstanding. I hope to spread the word. Great to have a restaurant like this in Langley.

Shark Club Bar & Grill20169 88 Ave, Langley
Nice place, food uninspiring
Submitted Sunday, March 18, 2007 - 4:16pm [Dine in]

Popped in to the Shark Club after work Friday afternoon. Service was quick and attentive. Above average surroundings and a great place to unwind, watch a game, etc. All my partner and I ordered were some chicken wings, but they were pretty poor. Very small, overcooked and nothing more then bottled sauce tossed over.

I can't say anything about their other dishes as we didn't try them. They may be much better. Still, it doesn't inspire confidence if a pub cannot even do chicken wings well, particularly considering the prices charged.
