The two of us paid $70 dollars for a pizza and two drinks each. The pizza was ok but burned at the edges. The service was passable but disinterested.
If I had paid $30 I'd say that this place is good but for over twice that price it is ludicrously expensive.
Took advantage of the sunny weather to sit out on Marmalade's patio this week. It was much quieter than The Pirate Pub next door and we had a lovely relaxed meal. We tried the sandwiches/burgers and they were excellent. The service was pleasant and unhurried and we will difinitely return. A good find.
Went here for a special occassion (first visit). My overall impression was that the food was excellent, the service was very good but I just felt that I had stepped back in time about 20 years. There was a piano player (not very good) and the whole ethic seemed to be to make people feel "special" but without making them feel comfortable. I want to feel relaxed when I eat and this never seem possibe at Joe Fortes. A revamp is called for to make it into a modern easygoing place that people will return to.
For some reason many people on here seem to be expecting a 5 star restaurant peopled by high fliers in business suits! It's not that kind of place. It has a "studenty" or "arty" vibe and there are pluses and minuses that come with that. The service can be a little slow but I have never known it to be rude and the food is always very good and reasonably priced. You are also never rushed or made to feel unwelcome. It's essentialy a bar that does great food, what's not to like?
