India Bistro1157 Davie Street, Vancouver
Lunch buffet success
Submitted Sunday, June 28, 2015 - 10:56pm [Dine in]

This place is the standard when it comes to serving quality lunch buffets. We came for lunch at 1 pm on Saturday and there was a bit of a wait. A good sign as it is a popular place, and since we were not famished we just waited it out.

I am not new to Indian food at all and order take-out quite often, but since my aunt was visiting from out of town I decided to take her some place nice and eat in. India bistro was a safe bet; you can’t go wrong with the food served here. The food is always prepared fresh and doesn't overdose on spices. My aunt tried almost everything and helped herself to second servings while I just kept it conservative with the butter chicken. I would highly recommend it for people looking for a more than decent lunch option.

Amorosa Pasta House7874 Edmonds St., Burnaby
Create your own pasta!
Submitted Friday, August 15, 2014 - 12:41pm [Dine in]

Despite what the description says, Amorosa is a mesh of Italian and Greek. Service can be a little slow but the pasta is consistently good. I have had to take my food home most of the times I come here though, because the portion sizes are quite huge. Even my boyfriend, who is not a light-eater, has taken portions home. I like their polpette and catoccio, but most importantly their make their own pasta section. You can choose up to three different ingredients, pasta, and sauce (pesto costs an extra $2.00 btw).

Cheap and quick
Submitted Thursday, August 14, 2014 - 5:41pm [Dine in]

Mexicali is a fast food Mexican restaurant, so it offers what you would expect from such a place: affordable prices, basic yet quick service (no waiters), and a simple ambiance. The crowd is usually a mix of young people and families, which can be a bit noisy. I ordered a regular quesadilla, chips with salsa, and a slushy mexican limonada as a drink. It was all good, especially for the prices I paid (almost everything on the menu is less than $10). The quesadilla was awesome, especially with the sour cream and the slushy Mexican Limonada was very refreshing for the day.

Akira Sushi1069 Denman Street, Vancouver
Service needs to improve!
Submitted Sunday, August 10, 2014 - 8:44am [Dine in]

There are some reviews that reiterate the poor service of this place but I thought that since they were dated, this would not be the case. Akira is in Denman, where there are tons of other restaurants that can give them a run for their money. If they don’t want to lose clientele, they need to up their game!

Other than that, there are really no other reasons why not to come back. For one, prices are affordable. While the sushi lacked taste, the black rice didn’t disappoint! I would have given it a higher rating had it not been for the service. While the service is usually fast, the waitresses can be unfriendly, to put it nicely.

Love this place!
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2014 - 9:21am [Dine in]

Chili house is my new favorite place. The menu is quite varied; there are lots of options to choose from. So far, everything I have tasted is good. I usually get a garden salad as an appie. Their manchurian chicken is to die for! The chicken is well-cooked and quite tasty. And don’t even get me started on the Mongolian lamb...the lamb is delicious and tender. Unlike other ethnic or Asian food places, the staff and owners are quite friendly – if you do not like your food to be too spicy, they can adjust it for you. If you are looking for Indian-Chinese food in Vancouver, I’d definitely give this place a look.

Great every time!
Submitted Friday, August 1, 2014 - 3:39pm [Take-out]

I usually order take out from Handi, I think I ate here once only? But I vaguely remember, so I can't really opine on that aspect. As far as the take-out goes, its been great so far. My order always comes relatively fast and most important of all, it comes hot!

The curry sauces are really delicious and tasty. I usually get the lamb curry (or something of lamb) or the palak paneer, and accompany it with some Indian rice. The take-out portions are quite generous and can easily fill one up. I usually end up with leftovers when I order from them but I just re-heat the food the next day and its all good.
