So disappointed
Submitted Sunday, July 4, 2010 - 8:57pm [Dine in]

We used to come to Cassis regularly a few years ago, and for no reason in particular, started trying other places, but I always remembered having fantastic meals at Cassis and for really reasonable prices.

Most recently, we had an event for about 50 people and we decided to go with Cassis for it's casual but seemingly refined ambience and service and what I remembered to be really delicious and reasonable food. While the ambience did meet standards, the restaurant fell short on the rest of the fronts and the evening was a bit of an embarrassment. The restaurant supposedly served premium alcohol, but when some of our guests asked for Grey Goose, they were told they didn't carry it; we're not sure what the house wine was (the word "undrinkable" came up during the evening); the food, while tasty, appeared to be quite scant and some platters were served on what looked like dinner plates, and even then, they came out sporadically. The highlight? The bartender (Fabio?) - what a great entertainer! All-in-all, a really disappointing evening, and sad in that many of the guests in attendance had never been to the restaurant but were all high level corporate executives with copious amounts of disposable incomes and are the types who will drive for a great place to eat, but, based on the feedback afterwards, won't be going back. So sad to have to write Cassis off my list of "go-to" places.

Fun place to chill and have a few beers
Submitted Sunday, July 4, 2010 - 8:37pm [Dine in]

Let me start off by saying that we've been to both Stella's on the Drive and most recently, Stella's on Cambie, and the common theme with both locations is they are both extremely LOUD inside. Perhaps it could have been that we were seated next to a particularly small but annoying and loud female who only got louder as the evening progressed, or that the tables are just really closely together. Despite that, we love coming to hang out for the beer selections for the boys who try different ones each time, but I keep going back to the strawberry beer (and I don't normally drink beer). But, the food is decent so it's become one of our fallback eateries to hit when we just want to chill-ax.

A pleasant surprise...
Submitted Sunday, July 4, 2010 - 8:23pm [Dine in]

Ten of us dropped into The Pond on a whim last weekend never having heard of The Pond, so no one had any expectations, however, there were a few foodies amongst us. While the service was admittedly slow, we all kepts ourselves entertained, so the slowness wasn't an issue.

Some ordered the calamari appetizer, but for the most part, everyone just ordered mains - penne puttanesca, tenderloin with brie and pear, seafood pasta, eggplant parmigiana, and they were all delicious and cooked perfectly - all for under $20 each - can't beat that! We would have tried the desserts, but wandered up the street for gelato instead. We'd certainly go back to The Pond.

Overrated

Our friends love coming here for brunch...we aren't really sure why...each time we've been there, we keep thinking we should have gone to Nu. The food is decent here, but sitting along a sidewalk with people staring as they stroll by just isn't our thing I suppose. Had the savoury chicken crepe and it was very tasty, but really, I was still hungry after and I'm not generally a big eater. Might have to give this one another try, but definitely not hurrying back anytime soon.

Keep going back despite slow service
Submitted Thursday, June 11, 2009 - 7:58pm [Dine in]

We've been to Nu on a number of occasions now, for both brunch and dinner, and have to admit - the service really is slow, even though it isn't always busy, so it's perplexing why it's slow each and every time. Yet we keep going back because we love the location, sitting in the big outdoor couches on the patio for brunch, and the food is decent. So if you are really big into service, this is NOT the place for you. If you like just lazing on comfy furniture on a deck and watching the boats cruise by, then this is not a bad place to be...would much rather have brunch here than at Provence Marinaside where many of our friends go.

Crazy Busy....
Submitted Thursday, June 11, 2009 - 7:51pm [Dine in]

Happened on this place on a late Friday nite and this place was hopping, and every nite we happen to be driving by. Ended up sitting at one of the shared bar tables and had the fresh made nachos to start which were excellent. Food overall was pretty solid, good ambience if you like the crowded busy environment, but would certainly go back with a group for it's laid back vibe.

Made it here at last...

After all the hype, I was curious to see what all the buzz was about for Market. I've had dinner their on two separate occasions (Pierce Brosnan was there on one of the nights) and have to say, it has a really nice ambience in the dining room (didn't sit in the lounge, but walking through, it looked like a place to hang for the next time, and I heard they serve an amazing rosemary popcorn snack). Have to say, the warm shrimp salad with champagne vinaigrette has become one of my latest addictions - unbelievable flavors in it! Have yet to have a bad meal there (including my dinner companions).

Exceeded Expectations
Submitted Thursday, June 11, 2009 - 7:42pm [Dine in]

Had heard some good things about this restaurant so already had a certain expectation on the food. I have to say, the food ended up exceeding them. We were a party of 12 and everyone at the table was impressed with their meal - we all had ordered different dishes off the menu and sampled each other's and they were all top notch. Even my discerning partner, a stickler for not paying good money for bad food, was pleasantly surprised at how much he enjoyed his bouillabaise, and he is a tough customer.

I had thought that Market would be my new favorite haunt, but that has easily been surpassed by db Bistro now!

Reliable comfort food
Submitted Thursday, September 20, 2007 - 6:44pm [Dine in]

We go there about once a year, and each time, it's pretty consistent. We always order the tomato bocconcini to start (have yet to find one more flavorful anywhere else), and finish with the tiramisu (very light). This time, the prawns in white wine and garlic was the entree of choice, and it was very tasty; vegetables were a little scant, but otherwise we'd order it again. Pretty casual and relaxed environment - no frills.

Pleasantly Surprised
Submitted Friday, September 14, 2007 - 7:59pm [Dine in]

Had a girls night out recently and descended upon Chow, not having read or heard any reviews. We were all delighted with our dishes: Ahi Tuna Tataki on avocado carpaccio, Gnocchi, Maple Cured Salmon, Foie Gras, although they were a tad pricey when several of the dishes did not come with sides, but still worth a re-visit in the future.
