Enjoyed a large family gathering here for brunch a few weeks ago, a large family that knows good food. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and the service was solid. But OMG, I have to admit to being completely floored by an omelette. Never thought it was possible for eggs to taste like a religious experience! The miracle-as-food was termed the "combination" omelette; a mixture of well-reduced herbed mushrooms and an assortment of trimmings from their cheese platter. Wow!
Can't wait to return...
This family run restaurant has been our family favourite Italian spot for a very, very long time. The generation running it and the location has changed more than once) but the quality, authentic flavour and nice family atmosphere remains.
Not sure I can understand the complaints about the service; we've been squeezed in without reservations (on New Year’s no less), had every special-dietary request accommodated with cheer. They even honestly tell you what is especially good today (or not). Every time, year after year. Never, ever had a bad meal here or a bad dish whether pasta, specials, the mains or dessert. And we are particular, almost fussy. Nice wine list too. Plus the prices are super-reasonable for the quality and ingredient freshness.
I would have to give this place and the family who runs it top marks for maintaining quality with consistency: rare for a Vancouver restaurant. Thanks for all the nice meals!
I lived in Montreal for years....over a decade since returning to VanCity and I still get occasional Poutine cravings...this is where they get satisfied. The ambience is spot-on and menu features tons of variety. Staff always pleasant and friendly.
If there is better poutine in Vancouver I certainly haven't found it. I recommend this place to all my Quebec relatives when they come to visit-no complaints yet!
Absolutely LOVE the Pesto Pizza. Have been addicted to this for years and semi-regularly make the excursion from Downtown just for this (call it a pilgrimage).
Crust is not greasy, thin and crisp and combined with the gooey cheese and pesto combination with hint of sundried tomato...it's fabulous. Only problem is you tend to devout the whole thing....if that is a problem.
My husband and I are both sushi-addicts and rather particular ones at that. We have been coming here near-exclusively to get our fix for several years for good reason; Ajisai possibly serves the best sushi in the city (along with Tojo's).
This spot offers completely authentic, fresh, quality sushi at affordable prices. The staff are consistently pleasant, efficient and helpful. They offer some dishes not regularly offered by Japanese restaurants here; the Wakame Sunomono is especially delicious.
Line-ups are inevitable and worth it.
Tried this restaurant for lunch during mid-week with a group of colleagues. Food quality and taste were terrible, menu descriptions inadequate, prices high and servers indifferent. All meat/poultry/fish were overcooked and sauces over-sweet, greasy and under-flavoured.
Pink Elephant is definitely not authentic or even traditional-esque Thai cuisine. Within a few short blocks Thai House, Tropika and Salathai all offer more appealing Southeast Asian cuisine at lower prices.
In this neighbourhood there are simply too many quality choices for this restaurant to last.
