Best wings in the Lower Mainland!!!
Submitted Friday, December 15, 2006 - 4:08am [Dine in]

I haven't been able to eat wings anywhere else once I tried this place - nothing comes close! The wings are huge and (most of the time, although there have been some off nights) are cooked perfectly to a tender crisp. Salt & Pepper, Thai, and Honey Garlic steal the show for sure. You also have to get the WOWY sauce to go with the wings... mmmm that stuff is good. The salads are SO CHEAP, $3 for a pretty big starter salad, that's a steal! However, be warned that the other food on the menu isn't very good... just go here for wings.

The Sunday special for $0.39/wing makes the place insanely busy on Sundays, so don't go with a big group unless you are prepared to wait or if you make a reservation ahead of time. Also, the service isn't the best, so yeah... don't expect superb service. Customer service is a REALLY BIG DEAL to me, and I usually don't put up with lousy service, but the wings here are so good, I cacn't help it. Even with the 30 minute drive, I still go there about once a week on average.

Very surprised by all the terrible reviews...
Submitted Friday, December 15, 2006 - 3:59am [Dine in]

I've been here twice, and the first time was an absolutely mind-blowing experience. Had the red duck curry, which me and my date both thought was simply orgasmic. Also had some noodles (I can't remember which ones exactly) which were good. Me and my bf usually finish everything we order, regardless of how big the portions, but we couldn't finish the stuff we ordered that night because it was just so rich and full of flavour. We felt full already, although the plates were only average sized. We also had the satays which was accompanied by a great peanut sauce.

Second time was a year later, and a very similar experience so I won't dwelve into that too much.

I would say this place is a million times better than Thai House or Urban Thai Bistro (same thing)... and I'm simly astonished by how many bad reviews it has gotten.

Must have ordered the wrong things...
Submitted Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 6:24pm [Dine in]

After reading all the great reviews on this place, and having an Entertainment coupon definitely didn't hurt, I decided to try it out. Having dinner for 2 for $20 (thanks to the coupon) was fine, but it was nothing outstanding. I definitely wouldn't crave going back for anything, and I definitely would have been unsatisfied had I not had the coupons. The pizza was a little dry and burnt (is this what authentic Italian pizza is supposed to be like?) and the pasta was just pasta - did not blow my taste buds away. Anducci's over Lombardo's anyday.

Great room, great steaks, and FABULOUS desserts
Submitted Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 6:16pm [Dine in]

Considering its location on a busy Downtown street, and the excellent food and service they have, I'm surprised this place is not more popular and well-known. The steaks are HUGE, although I must admit, the baked potato is a little small if you have that as your side. I substituted for fries and got a huge serving of skinny fries (just the way I like 'em!).

The sauces on the BBQ and Chipolte Sirloin and the Blue Cheese Sirloin were excellent. The steaks were perfectly cooked to our requests. The only downer was the Prime Rib which looked and tasted quite awful and dry. The complimentary bread was also excellent.

What really blew me away though, was the desserts. I ordered the Chocolate Lava Ganache Cake, and (asides from numerous crème brulees), it was the best dessert I've ever had. Not only was it good, it was a very decent size, with a BIG scoop of ice cream - something that you rarely ever see these days. My friend got the Baked Alaska which was also HUGE. Both desserts were only $7 each - a steal! Steaks were about $25. (I know, the website doesn't list prices so it's a bit scary.)

Absolutely Fabulous!!!
Submitted Wednesday, November 8, 2006 - 1:02am [Dine in]

It's been awhile since I've encountered a restaurant with great service, great food, and great value all in one. Rex takes the cake! With their $25 3-course menu, you can't go wrong. The prime rib is fabulous (I never even liked prime rib before having it at Rex), as is the beef carpaccio. I absolutely have to commend them on their high calibre service - every single one of their employees who came to our table (three) were extremely pleasant, warm, and polite. They did all they could to accommodate our needs. Two thumbs up from me.

Good food, high prices
Submitted Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - 12:50am [Dine in]

The food was good quality, but nothing "special", and very overpriced. I didn't get a combo though, so maybe I should have... I paid over $10 after tax and tip for a California Roll and Alaska Roll which I really didn't think was worth it. If you want big pieces for a good price in the area, try out Kita Sushi by Gilmore Skytrain station.

GREAT GREAT GREAT Korean BBQ
Submitted Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 6:18pm [Dine in]

Grab a group of 3-6 friends and head over to Insadong and order the BBQ combo MmMmm. It will work out to approximately $20 each (after tax and tip), but you will all be stuffed to the max. The meats are delicious (especially the beef and beef ribs), and what's great is that the waiters change the BBQ surface fairly often so that you aren't cooking your meat on a burnt surface. (If they don't, just ask them and they'll do it right away.) The only thing is, they do not bring you the rice unless you ask for it. And for Korean food newbies, those little appetizers you get are bottomless so don't hesitate to ask for more!

Going downhill since renovations...
Submitted Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 6:15pm [Dine in]

I absolutely loved this place before the renovations. I went there AT LEAST once a week, and I don't even live that close by and of course the wait was terrible. However, after the renovations, the food seems to have gone downhill (for whatever reason) and they did not increase the number of staff working despite increasing the size of the restaurant. Needless to say, that results in lots of frustrated customers. I really hate to be writing a negative review for a restaurant that I've loved so much in the past, but let's just face it... they're no where near as good as they used to be.

PS. If you do go there, the unagi is fabulous and the Alaska Rolls are to die for - without them, I wouldn't have eaten there as much as I did.

Good place to have a cheap brunch
Submitted Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 5:22pm [Dine in]

The food comes VERY slow - make sure you know that before you go. Yeah, you would think the bacon, sausages, etc are all pre-cooked in big stacks, but I guess they're not. You're looking at about a half hour wait from the time you order to the time you get your food. However, I really do like the food there, and it's only $2.99 - it's a steal. I disagree with the other reviewer on the hashbrowns - I actually really enjoy the potato chunks and think they are very flavourful. If you have some time to kill, a good place to have breakfast. Better than paying $10 at IHOP for the same thing.

Bad service, small portions
Submitted Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 5:17pm [Dine in]

It was an interesting place, no doubt. However, when it took 10 minutes to get a table (when there were empty tables) and another 10 minutes to get a menu, the novelty of the atmosphere wears off, and it makes me ticked off. The service was AWFUL. The food was slow, the waitresses were slow... everything was SLOW (which is a big deal when you're dining on the price of a Yaletown parking meter haha). My toast was cold and soggy, and although I love my toast, I'm willing to overlook it since it wasn't the "main" part of my dish. The omelette was pretty good, although not good enough to get me to come back with the prices and lousy service.

Great place
Submitted Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 5:12pm [Dine in]

After reading about all the fuss about this place, I was surprised to see it half-empty when I arrived. I was actually expecting a line like every review seems to talk about... perhaps it was an off day... However, the quality of the food here was absolutely top notch. I've never seen an egg yolk so orange before. Everything was cooked perfectly, and nothing felt greasy. The only complaint I have is that the service was only mediocre (not a cheerful waitress or any attempt to make conversation) and the portions are a tad too small. Enough to just fill you up, but they could probably stand to give you a few more hash browns ;).

Decent food, but nothing special
Submitted Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 5:07pm [Dine in]

The food was alright, but nothing memorable except for the Creme Brulee. Heavens, this was *the* best creme brulee I've had in my entire life... there's a very thin layer of chocolate at the bottom that just took the cake. I would make a trip to the island for the dessert alone. Steaks were okay (over cooked my medium-rare), and the waiter was extremely helpful (although you could tell he was a newbie).
