Mi Mexico Restaurant3853 Hastings Street, Burnaby
Good mexican for burnaby
Submitted Sunday, August 26, 2007 - 12:45am [Dine in]

Came for dinner a few days ago here and ate Chile Rellenos while my friend had a burrito. The meal came with nachos and salsa, which I found pretty good.

The Chile Rellenos wasn't that great.. but to be fair that was the first time i ever ate that. The burrito was pretty good. The beans that came with it was pretty tastey, but the bean portion felt a little too small.

Found the temperature in there unusually hot. The Service was just okay, the waitress seemed busy talking to other people for long periods of time. It was nice and clean in the restaurant.

Would probably come back to try other menu items if in the neighborhood.

La Salsa Mexican Deli4140 Hastings Street, Burnaby
Great salsa, mediocre burritos/enchiladas
Submitted Sunday, August 26, 2007 - 12:28am [Dine in]

Had lunch here with two friendsy today. Started off with their salsa and chips and got excited, as the salsa was one of the best I have tasted. I ordered a burritos and my friends ordered two different kinds of enchiladas. They each came with rice and beans. The beans were overcooked and bland, as well as the rice. Both tasted as if they were microwaved right before they came to my table. The burrtio and enchliadas were similar, soggy and seemed like they were just microwaved.

Ordered some more salsa and chips, and also got some salsa to go. The restaurant is simple and clean, and the service was good for what it is.

I would only return to buy salsa to bring home.

Great take out sushi bar

Always had a good experience here with fresh fish and nicely made sushi. My favorites are the charashi don, and ethnic salmon/tuna rolls. Good value for your money, and very tastey food.

Place is clean and simple looking. There is no table service, you order at the counter and seat yourself. There is also free tea you serve yourself.

Decent food with a nice frog theme for kids
Submitted Tuesday, August 21, 2007 - 6:52pm [Dine in]

Was very busy here, and arrived just before noon on a saturday. We were seated quickly and had our orders taken in a prompt manner. I had a breakfast burrito and my friend had a burger.

Service was good, with a very attentive waitress. Nice frog themed restaurant, but seemed very noisey.

Food was decent, but nothing special. Burger was fine, and so was the burito. Probably would not go back unless in the area.

Great spicey tune/salmon
Submitted Tuesday, August 21, 2007 - 6:38pm [Dine in]

Tried various rolls and sashimi over the last few months here and they all seemed pretty good. Portions are good for the price and I can get full on $10-$15 worth of food for dinner. I usually come here for the spicey salmon or spicey tuna rolls or sashimi, which is excellent. Fish seems pretty fresh here, which may be from the high turn over of customers. Seems packed everytime I go there.

Inside is nothing special, seems reasonably clean and the service is average.

Great pizza for a little more
Submitted Monday, August 20, 2007 - 3:30pm [Dine in]

Ingredients tasted very fresh, and was plentifull on my thin crust pizza. I found their pizza very good and would come more often if it was cheaper. Pizza here cost about $25 for a large specialty pizza, which seems too much.

Found the appy breads and wings decent but not good. I would stick with the pizza, which is very tastey, will go back again.

Decent late night snack place
Submitted Monday, August 20, 2007 - 12:35pm [Dine in]

Came here for a late dinner at around 9pm. They had a special late night dinner menu and food was pretty cheap, $6-$7 including a drink ($1 more for a cold drink).

They had a large selection of food, which was pretty decent in quality for the price paid. Their regular menu looks a little too expensive for the quality, but I would come back again for their late night specials.

Great Tea with great selection
Submitted Monday, August 20, 2007 - 11:48am [Dine in]

They make great fruit slushies and cold fruit tea drinks here, at around $4-$5 a drink. They use all fresh fruit (that I have had so far), and freshly made jellies to put in your drink for $0.5-$1 more.

They have some outstanding premium drinks as well for $6-$7 that I get if I feel like spending a little more.

Seating inside is very limited with only 3 tables, so I usually get takeout. It seems very popular with the locals, as there seem to be many regulars when I go there. Service is fast and friendly, and its always clean inside. I always want to go here if I feel like a fruit slush.

Poor service with decent cheap eats
Submitted Monday, August 20, 2007 - 11:43am [Dine in]

As other reviewers have mentioned, the service here is pretty poor. The problem isn't the servers, as they work pretty hard to get your order and bring the food to you, its the lack of servers.

Had to wait 20 minutes for me to wave them down to take my order, then another good wave and lookout for a server to get a refill once during my meal. Then when I wanted the bill, they asked me to come up to the front to pay when clearly other people were receiving their bill at their table.

Poor service, I only go during off peak hours to receive decent service, and even then its sketchy.

Food is good for your money I think, I find their alaska rolls pretty tastey.

Decent cheap dim sum
Submitted Monday, August 20, 2007 - 11:39am [Dine in]

Has the standard fare for dim sum foods, and none of them are outstanding. Portions are pretty decent for your money, and you won't be dissapointed in any of the food there. Good consistency with average food.

Chaotic service in trying to get seating with poor queue management, but once you get a seat its fine.

Anducci's Italian Kitchen9604 Cameron St, Burnaby
average pasta, good bread
Submitted Tuesday, August 7, 2007 - 5:09pm [Dine in]

I usually go to anducci's when I have a craving for their bread, which I find pretty good, as mentioned in previous reviews focaccia bread with a vinagrette.

Portions are quite large like many pasta places. Never had a problem with the pasta itself, but the sauces don't seem very flavorful and seems a little watered down.

Service was decent with the waitress checking in a few times during my meal to fill up my water and see how I was doing. The interior of the restaurant is clean and nice as well.

No. 1 Beef Noodle House4741 Willingdon Avenue, Burnaby
Go for the beef noodle soup
Submitted Friday, July 27, 2007 - 11:02am [Dine in]

Decent place to get beef noodle soup (get it with tomatos, A2 on their menu) which is pretty decent. I also enjoyed their fried chicken with noodles in soup. I have tried a few of their noodle dishes and they are all decent to good, but not great.

The bubble tea served there is okay at best, I would go for food, not bubble tea.

I found their service quick and their servers friendly. but once you get your food and order, they disappear until you want your bill.

awesome wraps
Submitted Wednesday, July 25, 2007 - 6:03pm [Dine in]

Been eating here for the last few months and everything tastes great and so full of flavors. It gets pretty busy, so service is sometimes slow as often just the owner is working there. There are a few seats in this place, but it is functional, I usually get take out instead of eating there.

I find their beef wrap the best, and their spicey and garlic sauce inside very good. I tend to avoid the platters with rice as they are a little too much for me for lunch.

The food is great, but the service and ambiance are nothing to write home about.

Good satay and Hainese chicken
Submitted Monday, July 16, 2007 - 5:30pm [Dine in]

Ate here for dinner a few weeks ago, had the beef and chicken satay. The chicken satay was excellent, and the beef was decent. Also had the rotai canai, it was pretty good, although it was a little smaller than I expected, but tastey with the sauce.

I had Hainese chicken which was presented in a very nice manner, and very good. I also ordered the mee goreng which was only okay, not quite enough flavor for me, I could taste mostly spice.

I also had their dessert of ice cream and fried banana. This was decent but not great, probably won't order this again.

Service was decent, but the only waiter seems to disappear into the back for a few minutes at a time, making it hard to get his attention. But when he was outside he was very attentive.

The excellent chicken satay and hainese chicken made the trip worthwhile though, definitely will be back.

Great mexican food for cheap
Submitted Monday, July 16, 2007 - 5:25pm [Dine in]

Great tasting food, tried the tacos and enchiladas. Service was fine, nothing to write home about, my glass of water was never empty. Always seated quickly and my food comes out pretty fast.

Excellent refried beans, but they seemed to have changed their recipe, their old recipe from last year I liked better. Pretty good food for the price, I try to go there whenever I am in the area.

Needs more food, service
Submitted Monday, July 16, 2007 - 5:21pm [Dine in]

Came in a few weeks ago for lunch, and stood at the door for about 2 minutes until a waitress came and told us to sit anywhere. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant at the time. No beverages offered nor anything else. So I got up and went to get some food at their buffet. They had 2 kinds of rice, 4 different kinds of veggies and 2 different meat dishes, one meatloaf and another chicken. Both seemed dry and tasteless.

Hunted down the waitress (who seemed to be enjoying a meal in the back?) to try to get some water to drink mid way through my meal. Near the end of my meal some salad came out, which I ate because I didn't fill up on anything else.

Service is severely lacking, food seems stale but seems like it was good at one point but has been lieing around too long and the selection is tiny. 2 types of mostly plain rice, with 4 types of veggies and 2 meat dishes is too few for a buffet.
