mediocre fish and chips
Submitted Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 1:45am [Dine in]

Came here for a Saturday lunch a little while ago. Had the halibut and chips and my friend had them too. The fries were a little soggy and the fish itself was pretty greasy. I have had better fish and chips and chain restaurants.

The place is not so clean, my table was a little sticky, and everything looked pretty old. The bathroom was pretty dirty, one of the worse i have been to.

Service was minimal but present. It was packed when I was there, don't know why, as it isn't a good value and the food wasn't that good.

Would not return.

Cheap eats with some questionable service
Submitted Wednesday, September 10, 2008 - 1:23am [Dine in]

Had dinner here a few days ago with a friend. I ordered an alaska roll as well as one of their special rolls and a miso soup. My friend ordered the alaska combo.

Service was pretty rushed and sparse. They came by to take our order and to give us our bill when we waved one of them down. The food itself is not bad, but the wait time was very long. I got my miso soup in about 10 minutes, and my rolls came out about 30 minutes after. My friend's rolls about 15 minutes after my last roll. So it was almost an hour since my friend received her meal of an alaska roll and 4 pieces of nigiri sushi. The restaurant was full but it shouldn't take 1 hour for food to come out.

Ambiance was fine, it was a decently clean area.

For the price, its hard to do better in burnaby for sushi. Probably would return if I had a lot of time on my hands.

Tastey Chinese food
Submitted Monday, September 8, 2008 - 12:09am [Dine in]

Had dinner a while back with my family. Had the stewed pork hock, stuffed duck and a few other dishes, such as a hotpot and beef in Chinese pancake.

The pork hock was pretty good, and so was the stuffed duck, which we preorderd from the day before. The rest of the dishes were unmemorable, but the beef in pancake was pretty good.

Service here is pretty good for a Chinese restaurant, with servers filling up tea, and I was even asked how my food was. Inside looks new and it was pretty nice. It was spacious inside with lots of room between tables. I found the prices a little high for the quality and amount of food received.

Pretty good sushi and grilled food
Submitted Monday, September 8, 2008 - 12:02am [Dine in]

I had an early dinner here tonight and was promptly seated in a near empty restaurant, as they had just opened. My friend and I ordered the mango california roll, salmon roll and a deep fried smoked salmon and cream cheese roll. We also tried their tempura and cold noodle dish as well as grilled black cod which was one of their specials.

Their rolls were above average. The mango roll had quite a lot of mango on it, and the salmon in the salmon roll tasted quite fresh. Their tempura was crispy and light, and their noodle dish was well done. The highlight of the night was their black cod special. It was one of the best tasting black cod dishes I have ever eaten. Would definitely go back for that if nothing else.

Service was a little hit and miss. All the servers seem very friendly, but don't seem to want to do anything unless asked. I had a glass of water empty and had at least 3-4 waitresses look around to see if anyone wanted anything within a 10 minute time span. When I did ask for a refill it was very promptly dealt with.

Would go back to try out their set menu which looked like a good value, as well as their black cod.

Great service, pretty good food
Submitted Thursday, August 28, 2008 - 12:17pm [Dine in]

Had dinner here yesterday night. Me and my friend had a seafood dinner set meal, and a spicy roll with a special roll they had, which had salmon, mango with cheese and tempura.

I found the spicy roll pretty good, but pretty cheap on the contents and the rice was a little too soft. With the special roll, I found it interesting, but I don't find the flavors match too well.

The seafood dinner came with miso soup (pretty good), ebi sunomono (good noodles, mediocre shrimp), appetizer tempura (great), salmon teriyaki (decent) and some ice cream (standard). For $22 I would have thought they should have used something other than those tiny shrimp in the ebi sunomono and come with a bigger piece of salmon.

It was pretty nice inside, I had a comfortable booth seat and it was nicely blocked off from a large part of the restaurant. Service was one of the best I have had at a japanese restaurant such as this. Very attentive, refilled water/tea frequently, was asked how the food was when I started and at the end. Was provided helpful suggestions on the food as well and plates were cleared very quickly. Everyone seemed happy and cheerful.

I might come back, as the service was very good and certain foods were great.

Not bad for AYCE japanese food
Submitted Monday, August 11, 2008 - 12:59am [Dine in]

I have had dinner here a few times, and it has always been pretty decent. Service wise, I have never had a problem here. Service is prompt, and they don't "forget" or reduce your orders. Tea and water is refilled in a timely manner as well.

The food itself is typical AYCE japanese food quality, not great, but not bad. I like their deep fried foods the best actually, their shrimp bomb and deep fried scallops. The quality of their sashimi is pretty hit and miss. I have had it come out pretty fresh to pretty gross.

At $25 a person for their deluxe menu, its pretty hard to justify it as a good value. The ambiance is nice as you have great views of the water, but the restaurant itself is not so clean.

Solid bubble tea house with some ok food
Submitted Monday, August 11, 2008 - 12:53am [Dine in]

Came here a few times, and never disappointed with their bubble tea drinks. Its not the best I have ever had, but it certainly is not bad. I have had a few deep fried snacks here, and they were pretty good actually for what it was.

It is always very crowded when i go here, but had no problem getting service. Ambiance is decent and clean, but nothing special.

Solid HK cafe food
Submitted Saturday, August 9, 2008 - 10:42pm [Dine in]

Came here for dinner tonight, I had the thai prawn set dinner with lobster bisque and the $1 lobster tail, my partner had the garlic rib dinner with borscht and the lobster tail.

I found the lobster bisque pretty mediocre, it wasn't very good at all. The borscht was quite good though, so its better to stick with the basics. The thai prawn dinner was quite good actually, around 8 large prawns but it was not authentic at all. The garlic ribs were also quite good, but found the meat a little too fatty. It came with some veggies and one side, I picked ravioli and my partner picked mashed potatoes, which were pretty decent.

The lobster tails were small, but relatively good, great for their $1 promotion! I would say the service is outstanding relative to other HK cafe places. I was asked how the food was, and they seemed happy to be there. Service was prompt, and cheerful but a little inexperienced.

It was pretty nice inside the restaurant looks nice and new. Most set dinners were about $12-20, with a small charge for soup upgrades or cold drinks.

Good hole in the wall Peruvian food
Submitted Thursday, August 7, 2008 - 2:51pm [Dine in]

Had dinner here twice already, and was impressed with the food quality. I have never had peruvian food before, and don't remember the names of all the food I had here. Most things were impressive, like a beef on top of french fries dish, which tastes much better than it sounds. I also had some deep fried potato dish, and a chicken on rice dish, very tastey! I had their seafood ceviche which I didn't like so much, but I have never had one before so i don't know what it was suppose to taste like.

The owner is friendly, but since there is only one server, its sometimes hard to get service.

Looking forward to going back again.

Good tasting food, but too much MSG
Submitted Thursday, August 7, 2008 - 2:44pm [Dine in]

Had dinner here with my family a while ago and it was an overall good experience. Service was prompt, and food came out evenly spaced. Food quality was pretty good but not spectacular. We ordered the 6 person set menu, which was pretty pricey, but at least had a lot of seafood in it.

My main complaint is after the meal I was very thirsty, so they must load up on the MSG. I may return in the future.

Okay non-deep fried seafood
Submitted Thursday, August 7, 2008 - 2:41pm [Dine in]

Went to lunch here a few days ago, and had their seafood hotpot and my friend had the grilled salmon. I have never tried the deep fried fish/pawns/fries here before, but most people seemed to be eating that.

My seafood hotpot was okay, but I was expecting it to be a little more. A few small pieces of fish, a few clams and a few mussels in a huge broth with a single slice of garlic bread seemed a little lacking. The food was pretty good though, but not great. My friend's salmon came with veggies and rice. The rice was very hard, it was actually crispy, like it has been sitting outside for a long time. The veggies were good, but the salmon was a little over done and dry. We complained when the waitress asked how the food was, and she gave us some potatos instead of the rice, which was good.

Would maybe be back for the fish and chips, since that is what everyone else was ordering.

Nice hotpot, but needs more service
Submitted Wednesday, July 30, 2008 - 12:39pm [Dine in]

Ate at posh a few times for lunch. Great value I think for under $10. As a previous reviewer has stated, the base cost doesn't include extras such as sauces or different soup bases. I haven't been to a hotpot location that doesn't charge extra for soup bases, but usually most sauces are free at other hotpot places. At the same time, $10 is a great value regardless in my opinion.

The restaurant is nice and comfortable. Good amount of space between diners. Food is pretty solid, has beef and pork slices, with a variety of noodles and veggies.

The main problem is the poor service. For the whole restaurant most of the time I have seen only 2 waiters, maybe 3 at most, usually one standing at the bar preparing drinks. This is simply not enough to service the entire restaurant. I wait a long time for my order to arrive, and did not get asked if i wanted any drinks. When i asked for tea i waited over 15 minutes to get any. I actually received my food before i got my pot or my tea which was about 20 minutes after I got seated and ordered. I saw the people sitting in the table across from me get up and get their own cups and pour their own tea and water.

Would go back if I'm not in a rush for its good value.

Decent food with questionable english service
Submitted Thursday, July 24, 2008 - 12:58am [Dine in]

Had dinner here on a saturday about two weeks ago. Had the beef noodle soup, and my friend had the beef and spicey tomato noodle soup. The menus were not in english, but they did have a tiny english picture menu, that had a small subset of the entire menu. No drinks were in english. They also did not seem to have a good command of english, nor attempt to communicate well.

They seemed decent for value, but not cheaper than similar places. Its a small clean simple place.

Food was decent, but not great. Would not go back because of the poor communication and poor service.

Above average japanese AYCE
Submitted Monday, June 30, 2008 - 1:53pm [Dine in]

Had late night dinner here a few days ago and found their sushi and sashimi better than average quality for AYCE places. The rolls I found not really good, and the motoyaki I tried was really just some baked fish, which was okay at best. The BBQ salmon cheek was surprisingly good.

Ambiance was pretty nice, and service was friendly and fast. The main problem is they messed up at least one thing on my order every time, which is strange since you order by ticking off what you want on a sheet.

good valued decent sushi place
Submitted Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 12:10pm [Dine in]

Had sushi here a few times, and I would say the quality is never bad, but never much more than decent, so at least they are consistently okay.

Service is pretty minimal, but fast and friendly. The restaurant itself is clean, but very basic. The draw here is the good value, as portions are generous and prices are low.

I would come to eat here if you are looking for some ok basic sushi/rolls, such as some salmon sushi or some simple california rolls.

Been here twice, once for a company party and once with some friends. Both times service seemed prompt but a little cold. It had a nice feeling indoors, very inviting and pleasant.

Food unfortunetly was only decent at best. The pasta was a little tasteless and seemed to be a little lacking in meant and vegtables. The clamari was ok, but it was average at best.

Probably wouldn't go back unless there was another company party.

Decent hotpot and crispy chicken meals
Submitted Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - 10:56pm [Dine in]

I have had lunch here a few times. Their food is pretty decent at a low price. I usually have some sort of crispy chicken or fish on rice, or their hotpot and bbq combo. Prices range from $5 to $7 for these items. I found their bubble tea drinks decent but not great.

Service is usually quite fast and attentive, and the food comes out within 5 to 10 minutes. Food here is quite consistent, so I come here for a quick bite to eat sometimes.

Good fresh fish
Submitted Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - 10:25pm [Dine in]

Had dinner here a few days ago and it was an overall good experience. Had their charashi, which tasted quite fresh, and the rice well done. Their miso soup was also quite good, it seems to be made when you order and it uses a strong fish base, quite tastey! Also had the beef sashimi which was good as well. No compliants at all for the food.

The prices seem pretty good for the quality of food here. The service I found a little lacking. Although they seemed friendly, there is just one hostess/waitress who also seems to prepare the miso soup. She runs around quite quickly trying to serve everyone, but there were just too many people. The restaurant was close to full. I found the service friendly, but lacking. It was hard to flag her down, but when i did, she took care of any needs I had.

I would come back again.

Great food for a greasy spoon
Submitted Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - 10:19pm [Dine in]

Came here for lunch on saturday and what a treat. It definitely is pretty low in ambiance.. not dirty but pretty run down, especially from the outside.

The food was great, nothing complex, but everything seems well done. I had the beef dip with fries, which was one of best beef dips I have ever eaten. My friend had a soup and quesadilla. The soup was a tomato chowder, and it was excellent. The quesadilla was good, very filling and bursting with filling, but not at all authentic.

As for service, you order from the counter and they bring out food to you. So not much in terms of service, but for what it is, I thought it was quite good, they were very friendly and seemed to care about the food. Each meal was less than $7 and extremely filling. A great deal in my opinion.

Would definitely come back and try their other food.

Pretty good cake and smoothie
Submitted Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - 10:13pm [Dine in]

Came here with a couple friends a few days ago and had an pretty good experience. Ordered some chocolate cake and a berry smoothie. The cake and the smoothie were quite good. It was nice and clean inside, and I didn't feel too squeezed in.

It wasn't too pricey, it was a little under $9 for the drink and a slice of cake. Service was very friendly, but slow. Orders came out slowly, one cake or drink at a time over a 30-45 minute time period. They have a cute kid running around the restaurant the whole time too, he is cute, but seems to touch a lot of things (food), so I wonder how clean everything is.

Would probably come back if in the area for the good food and friendly service.
