It was nice to see Saru Sushi move to a larger well-positioned location, However the results don't match the locale. Volcano roll way over-sauced, too sweet, some items bland, chicken karaage tasted of fish from the fryer oil and very unappealing, the exterior was limp and not crispy too.
The place was hot, stuffy, and over crowded with the heavy scent of the fryer in the air,
Service was confused and slow,
Lastly the value was poor and we'll continue to go to Hon Jin next door.
I really enjoyed this concept of cheese, meats, and flatbreads as the dishes were all perfect for sharing. There was live music playing and not so loud as to impact our intimate conversation. The food was very good too, excellent presentations and I believe that all the accompaniments were made at the restaurant. The pulled pork flatbread was spicy and wonderful. I didn't see the bill but my date said it was reasonable for what we had.Hopefully we can come back again.
We came in on Sunday for the Prime Rib special and that was the tip-off that this was a special neighborhood place. It seemed like everyone lived nearby or knew each other, or knew the servers and owners. It boiled down to the fact that the servers and owners were professional and friendly and seemed to genuinely care about the customers and us too, considering that we don't live anywhere near this place. The food by the way was really good with fairly big portions and not wallet hurting prices. There was a good mix of music playing too , but not so loud as to impact conversation. I was told that this place has been here for a while and that new owners had taken over.
Enjoyable overall.
