Good family restaurant
Submitted Sunday, March 16, 2008 - 9:08pm [Dine in]

The outside of the restaurant doesn't look too impressive, but the parking lot was full, so we took it as a good sign. Sure enough, food was good, and service was fast and friendly. We ordered some fried rice and fried noodles for lunch. Nothing fancy, but if you are looking for quality Chinese food at a reasonable price, this is a good place to go in the Metrotown area.

Beautiful restaurant, mediocre food
Submitted Thursday, February 28, 2008 - 9:57pm [Dine in]

If a restaurant has good food and poor ambience, you can order take-out. What do you do if the ambience is excellent but the food is not up to standard? We find the food way too greasy and sweet for our liking. We have had much better Hainanese chicken, laksa and kwei-tew elsewhere. But the restaurant is really beautiful and service attentive. Maybe we should rent a table there and bring own own food next time :):)

Friendly Family Restaurant
Submitted Wednesday, February 27, 2008 - 11:23pm [Dine in]

We went there at lunch time on a weekday and the restaurant was about half full. There was only one waitress, a very cheerful and energetic one. I was impressed with the fast and efficient service. Food was OK, not particularly impressive. I have had better spaghetti with meat sauce at other places, but if I am in the same area again, I won't mind going there again.

Great lunch deals
Submitted Saturday, February 23, 2008 - 1:19pm [Dine in]

While many places have decent fried rice, New Mitzie's fried rice has that special stir-fry aroma essential to good Chinese food. The two stir-fried dishes we order the other day were both full of good flavours and not oily at all. The portions were also very generous and the prices reasonable. Service was fast and friendly. Recommended.

What customer service?
Submitted Sunday, February 17, 2008 - 6:54pm [Dine in]

We stood at the entrance for about ten minutes. No one even made eye contact, let alone greeted us. One waitress walked right past us 3 times, talked with customers about 3 feet away, cleared a table, took some orders, but just ignored us. Another party came in after us, and as far as I could tell, got the same treatment. After 10 minutes, we decided to leave, and leave a message here to warn others. Needless to say, we will not come back.
Since I have to rate all categories in this review, I have given them the benefit of the doubt and given a "decent" rating on their food.

Yummy Tandoori Chicken
Submitted Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 11:55pm [Dine in]

With the right amount of spice, their tandoori chicken was just right for me, and the naan was very fresh. Service was so so that day. We waited for 15 minutes before getting a table, even though the restaurant was less than half full, and there was no line up. The hostess was just busy doing her own thing and decided to make us wait. I would have given a higher service rating if not for this.

Great dishes, friendly service
Submitted Sunday, February 10, 2008 - 11:27pm [Dine in]

This is a nice, friendly place on Canada Way near Boundary. We had some fried rice, fried noodles and steamed buns today. They were all well-prepared with fresh ingredients. Service was very friendly. Even though they mixed up our order a little bit at first, they were quick to admit their mistake and rectify it right away. We will probably come back to this place more often. Recommended.

Not impressed
Submitted Wednesday, January 2, 2008 - 10:08pm [Dine in]

We just happened to be in the area and felt like dimsum. We ordered honey spare ribs, stuffed eggplant, steamed tofu, steamed rice rolls, and some kind of dumplings. Nothing was impressive; the rice rolls, in particularly, were dry and rough. I have had much better for much less. This, plus the fact that we had to watch the waitresses arguing with the manager right in front of the customers. Not professional. We are definitely not impressed.

Great pasta, but soooo sloooow
Submitted Monday, December 31, 2007 - 11:09am [Dine in]

I have been to Papa Joe's a few times over the past year or so. They serve tasty pasta, but the service was so slooow. One time we waited over 40 min. for our food. The last time we were there two days ago, we waited 30 min. I guess that was an improvement somewhat. I guess I will go back if I feel like pasta and am not in a hurry.

Good sushi, generous portion, tiny table
Submitted Friday, December 21, 2007 - 11:34am [Dine in]

They have beautiful and yummy sushi at a great price, and the service was fast. But it was REALLY uncomfortable. We (4 adults) ordered a lunch box each plus a spider roll to share. There simply was no space to put everything on our tiny table so we ended up having to clear the content of one box into another to get rid of one box before we even started eating. There was very little elbow room even for us, 4 skinny people, and the tables were close to one another . Next time I will order take-out.

Good food, slow service
Submitted Thursday, December 13, 2007 - 9:33pm [Dine in]

I have walked past this restaurant many times and there are often people waiting. I thought it's a pretty good sign, and finally decided to try it. It was a weeknight, and the restaurant was quite full. But we got a table fairly quickly.
The lettuce wrap with duck meat and veggies was excellent, with just the right amount of spice. The other dish we ordered, boneless chicken in peanut sauce, was way too sweet with coconut milk. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. One thing they could improve, though, is their service. It was pretty slooow. Fortunately we were not in a great hurry.

Outstanding Restaurant
Submitted Monday, December 10, 2007 - 1:05pm [Dine in]

The decor is tasteful and comfortable. Service is prompt and attentive. We ordered fried noodles, vermincelli, and fried rice served in a coconut. The fried rice noodles was a tad too sweet, and the other two dishes were just right. Overall, it was a very enjoyable lunch and we will definitely be back.

Good food and not much else
Submitted Thursday, November 1, 2007 - 5:24pm [Dine in]

I have been to Golden Oscar a few times, and they have always had tasty food, generous portions and good prices. We ordered baked pork chop on rice, and stir-fried rice noodles. We were happy with both. Service is pretty much non-existent - the bus girl wanted me to help clear the table for her today. Having said that, I think they still deserve a 2 for service because they are awfully fast. And ambience - it's one busy, noisy place at lunch. Go there just for the food, and you won't be disappointed.

I sure hope they have more customers on weekdays and in the evening. I went there on Sunday at lunch time, and it was fairly quiet. Service was quick and friendly and the food was just great. We ordered from their lunch special menu - a generously portioned and well-prepared dish with a bowl of rice and side salad or pop, all for $6.99. Why would you go to the food court outside? And, did I mention that the decor is really tasteful and the tables are spacious? All in all, it was a very enjoyable lunch with unbeatable value.

More like a 1.5
Submitted Monday, October 22, 2007 - 5:26pm [Dine in]

The location is very convenient, the menu is huge and varied, and the price is low. Then why is there not a lot of customers at lunch time on a Sunday? I have been here a couple of times, and I find nothing impressive about the food and service - nothing terribly wrong either - just that you will not think about this place and have no good reason to recommend it to your friends. Hence the 'two' rating on everything from me - actually more like a 1.5.

Decent food, not-so-good service
Submitted Sunday, October 7, 2007 - 6:08pm [Dine in]

I have been to this place a couple of times and like the food they serve. But they seem to have a rigid way of assigning tables, for example, they would not seat you unless they have a table for the exact number of people in your party. I can understand if they don't want to seat a party of three at a large table for eight, but they wouldn't even let us have a table for 4, and there weren't a lot of tables for 3. So we were standing there for quite some time. I was actually thinking of leaving but then it was raining outside, so we stayed.
We ordered fried rice, wonton soup and BBQ and roast chicken on steamed rice. All came quickly and were delicious. The BBQ pork was especially good - tender and not dry with the right amount of seasoning. I would have given this restaurant an overall rating of 4 if not for the initial waiting.

Good value lunch
Submitted Sunday, September 30, 2007 - 10:24pm [Dine in]

The lunch special that comes with rice and soup is really a good deal. The food is well prepared and service fast. Despite the large open area and the number of people there, it's relatively quiet. Overall a very enjoyable meal. Highly recommended.

Consistently good
Submitted Monday, September 3, 2007 - 8:55pm [Dine in]

I have been here a few times and have enjoyed each visit. My family and I have tried quite a number of different things, including their riblets, fish and chips, soup and salad at lunch, wraps, desserts ... and they have been good. Their waitresses are very cheerful and service is usually quite fast. Recommended.

Best customer service in the whole food court
Submitted Sunday, September 2, 2007 - 4:10pm [Dine in]

I have bought take-out food from this place many times. Their food is always fresh and tasty, and the wait time very short. But the thing that impresses me most is the lady who takes the orders. She is always courteous and seems to take great pride in the food she serves, even though this is a fast food place and she's not likely to get any tips for her service.

Good value breakfast
Submitted Sunday, September 2, 2007 - 3:55pm [Dine in]

It seems like most people order the $2.95 breakfast with two eggs with sausages or ham or bacon. I happened to order something else today - beef brisket soup noodles. They didn't take care to trim the fat on the beef, so the presentation wasn't too attractive, but the taste was pretty good, though. And the price was great.
