A great place for sushi.
Submitted Tuesday, January 19, 2010 - 7:01pm [Dine in]

Something about this place keeps me going back. It has become one my favourite places for sushi takeout and I have become a regular. They get pretty busy on weekends and may take a while to get seated. The setting is casual. I find the food consistent and the servers are nice even when they are busy. The prices are reasonable and affordable. I really like the spicy sushi. There's something about their spicy sauce that is different from other sushi places. My other favourite is the dynamite roll. I find that the deep fried prawn in that roll is almost always fresh and crispy. They also don't over fill the sushi with rice to make it look bigger. The sashimi here is also very fresh, especially the tuna. As for cooked dishes, I like ordering the gyoza, soft shell crab, katsu don and the fish katsu. They are all very tasty.

Just slightly above average

I've seen all the rave reviews about this place, so I thought I'd give it a try. I heard about the long line-ups, so I phoned in to do takeout instead. The wait was 45 mins, which is what I expected. When I got there, the place was packed and there was a line-up, but my food was ready as promised. I had ordered their famous baked eggplant, mango/salmon roll, california roll, negitoro roll, and dynamite roll. I would agree that their baked eggplant is probably one of the best tasting eggplant dishes. The california roll is really good too because of the taste and the moistness. The rest of the rolls on the otherhand is about average. The sushi is fresh, but when it comes to taste, I've had better. The prices are good and they do match the quality of the food. I will try this place again however and order different items to see if it is really worth 5 stars.

Good place for takeout

This restaurant is fairly new and I've ordered here about 4-5 times for takeout. There are a few tables, but the lights are really bright in there, so it's not really for dine in and not your usual Greek ambiance/decor. I prefer takeout and they are open later than other Greek restaurants. I usually order the large lamb souvlaki which comes with rice pilaf, salad, potato, tzatziki, pita bread and 2 skewers. Each time, the food has been consistent and fresh. The taste of the food is more like 3.5 stars, but I definitely prefer this place over several other full Greek restaurants, so I gave it 4 stars instead of 3. Service is okay; I don't always get a smile, but they're not rude either. The price is decent for the portion that you are getting, so it is worth a try.

Very tasty malaysian/thai food

I've been here numerous times for lunch and had great experiences each time. The service is good. The waiters are usually quite friendly and are pretty quick to recognize when I need a refill of water. The food has been consistent every time I have been here and the waiting times were reasonable. I really enjoyed the roti canai, pad thai, curry beef, and prawn cakes. I think quality of the food is better than other thai restaurants. I've also been to the Robson location, but this one is much better.

Good experience

I've been here a few times to meet up with friends. It's a good place to hang out and have gelato. The service was fine. I didn't have any problems getting samples before deciding which flavour I wanted. My favourite is the hazelnut gelato.

Sushi and sashimi are a must try here.
Submitted Monday, August 28, 2006 - 12:19pm [Dine in]

Sushi Garden is now open after their expansion. They now have over twice the seating before the expansion. I've have been here numerous times for eat in and takeout and they are always very busy and noisy. Seating is very open because there are no longer any partitions. The sushi portions are bigger than most other places and still maintains the taste. The alaska roll is my favourite here and a must try if you like raw salmon and avocado. The sashimi is consistently fresh with a generous cut. Service is only ok. There is always not enough servers for the amount of customers they get. Even with the wait times, I always go back because the food is so yummy.

Minoas Greek Taverna3823 Kingsway, Burnaby
The best kalamari and souvlaki
Submitted Monday, August 28, 2006 - 12:01pm [Dine in]

I've been to Minoas for lunch and dinner several times and the food was always consistent. They have the best kalamari I have ever tried. It is made with baby squid, so it is extra tender and delicious. The souvlaki platters are yummy too - potato, rice, salad, tzatziki are seasoned with just the right amount of flavour. The meats(especially the beef) are tender, tasty and not overcooked or dry like most other Greek restaurants. Portions are decent too, not too small, but not overly big either.
