Greasy, undercooked cheap food at its worst!
Submitted Tuesday, August 5, 2008 - 1:08am [Dine in]

Was here a month ago, service was virtually non existant. The eggs were runny, even some raw egg on the plate. Potatoes were undercooked, think they used lard on the toast, as margarine is probably too expensive for this excuse for a restaurant.I have had many $2.99 and $3.99 breakfasts in the lower mainland and the breakfast I was served here rates at the very bottom of the scale.

Encountered delicious food,a polite waiter and a nice atmosphere.

Chili prawns were fresh, sauce was delicious. Chicken and green beans in green curry paste were also very pleasing to the palate. Our waiter "Billy" was very attentive, polite and informative on the ingredients and levels of spiciness. Nice view overlooking Robson street. The only thing I would change is the Pad Thai, as it was fairly bland and a little dry. I mentioned to "Billy" the Singapore slings we ordered could be a tad sweeter and he brought my ladyfriend and I a shooter glass with grenadine to add to our drinks to remedy the situation.Pleasing experience over all.

Have dined at this restaurant for breakfast and lunch many times. The staff is always polite and cheerfull. No wonder this place is usually busy..breakfast is Under $5 inclucing:
coffee, eggs, toast, real potatoes, with bacon, sausage or ham. Coffee flows freely, staff are very nice, foods great..prices are cheap..what more can one ask for?And this is the Amelia restaurant on 6th in New West,..not 12th..have not been to that one yet. Cheers..JFZ

Ordered Chicken with black bean sauce chow mein. Specifically with no onions,as I detest the taste.Even told her {waitress..owner?}I was allergic, as then most restaurants make an effort to avoid them. Dish came to the table..lots of big chunks of white onion were apparent and the noodles were half crunchy and half soft. So I took up the plate to the front counter and asked if these were indeed onions. The reply was, theres only one piece there and to pick it out of the dish..Told her ,and showed her there was many onion pieces in the dish..and was asked to just pick them out. Needless to say,my dish had a onion flavor that really didn't appeal to me. Times I have been to this restaurant before, with some ladyfriends that work in businesses on the same block, the food and service were great, and prices were reasonable, this time I was very dissapointed that they couldn't make the simple effort as to make me a dish the way I requested it.Waitress came to the table and asked if the chow mein was ok..and I told her I was not happy with it. She then offered to replace it but I told her I had to leave in 10 minutes and did not have time to wait. She did deduct the can of coke from the bill for the misunderstanding, but should have deducted the cost of the meal..as for me the coke was the best part..sadly.

A nice suprise.

Walked in to this restaurant yesterday, with two ladyfreinds. Two of us had roast lamb, one had the mousaka.Waitresses were very polite and friendly. Roast lamb came with caesar salad on the same plate as the lamb, and I have never liked that concept,..however it was a nice salad, crisp romaine and a tasty caesar dressing, fresh shaved parmasean cheese. The lamb was very good! And the roast potatoes were nice too.Mousaka was average,so I was told..but the lady that rated it is VERY hard to please,so I would rate it as good..lol.All in all a nice atmosphere, nice staff and good food.

Unbelievably bad!
Submitted Monday, October 15, 2007 - 1:32pm [Dine in]

The conveyor belt has about three items that go round and round..very little variety. Trying to get a glass of water was a waste of time..went to their bar and filled it myself from a jug. Had bc roll, salmon on rice, chicken terriyaki and yam tempura. Half an hour after leaving my stomach was grumbling big time. 10 minutes later I was running to the bathroom, stomach pains and worse. This place has gone down hill so badly in the last 4 years its unreal! Phoned and asked to talk to the manager..was put on hold and no one answered my call.AVOID this place at all costs.

Eggs benny with a cheese sauce??
Submitted Wednesday, October 10, 2007 - 9:03pm [Dine in]

Sad,...the poor guy sitting across from me ordered this attempt at eggs benny, what a debaucle.Saw the look of "what the H--- is this? I had the sausage and eggs...Eggs looked like they were fried in lard. For my coffee ,they brought me milk when I asked for cream, the coffee was soooo bad,the cream didn't help mask its bitter taste. Pauls place is all about cutting costs.

love the mizithra spaghetti, even though it sticks to teeth like a drowning man clinging to a life presever.,raspberry marg's are great, and the prices are very reasonable. bread came to the table cold this visit, and our waitress replaced it with a warm loaf immediatley. Steak here always seems to be on the tough side, but spaghetti is a steadfast reliable fav.

geez, they didn't even toast the bread for a clubhouse sandwich, and they used cheap processed meat.on the plus side, the tea was good.lol.ladyfreind had a mediocre steak..again,the bearnaise sauce they use at the keg nowadays that they have delivered ,is cheaply made and tastes so. Sad.Kegs used to be fun, decent food, gone so far downhill these last 5 years.

David,Neil..you have a great restaurant here! Used to come here frequently when Hy,Bernie,& Don were running the place twenty years ago.."The Only" is my favorite steak, cheese bread is still to die for! Our waiter was attentive, very polite and had us feeling right at home.Caesar salad {Made at table} is too good for consumption .{well..almost}.lol! The manager {Paul} was a most gracious host! Brought us a couple of specialty coffee's as it had been some twenty years since I was last here.Don't know how I let this place slip away...sigh.Bearnaise sauce is heavenly. When I die..I'll pass on Heaven..send me to the Hy's Encore in the sky please!. I had the beef dip, ladyfreind had marinara pasta..Geez..I heard the quality was poor here but wanted to give it a try as I pass by the place in the mall frequently. Beef was fatty, little taste..and looked like it may have been reheated from days previous. Pasta was overcooked and devoid of any flavor. Prawns were mushy.Would not go back, but wanted to give the restaurant a chance.Lots of young kids and baby carriages here..maybe they like the food.
