Chicken was charred, spring rolls we were served had a nasty aftertaste...service was slow and restaurant was only 20% full at lunchtime.Had to ask 3 times for our sodas, arrived after we finished our lunch..waitress said she was sorry she forgot and was new..lol..very comforting. There are certainly better restaurants on Commercial Drive. And there is something better and more favorable Vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver
My cousin and I had driven by here many times..and past it while heading to Antons. Should have tried this place earlier but a groupon led us here. We arrived at opening for lunch and were greated by a very polite, smiling fellow named Nick who enlighteded me about there restaurant. He had purchased the equipment and furnishings from a previous Mexican fare restaurant at this location..He was so proud and hospitable about his new place, We really hope it will be a success. Bright cheery Mexican atmosphere, with the Mexican blankets adorning the place and soft music..Actually reminded me of a restaurant we tried in Puerto Vallarta a few years back..and loved. The Burrito Cynthia ordered was huge, and she said it was awesome. I had the tortillas with Chorizo and Cheese...was delicious..basic, and tasty.Oscar was the waiter who brought our food, pleasant young man also..now that they serve liquor , Corona and Nachos will have me here during Hot summer nights..on occasion. Apparently they have authentic live music also, not sure which nights. Menu is reasonably priced..we will definetly be back. Johnathan and Cynthia.
Discovered this place about 3 months ago,and now we go once a week. Don't live in the area..but worth the drive! Delicious butter chicken, best Naan I have ever found. Samosas are great, prices are cheap. The two girls we encoutered there,Raj and Joti are so nice..polite and keep us supplied with melt in your mouth Naan bread. I was hesitant to post this review as I hate busy restaurants..but this one should be busier..should be lined up. we used to go to a few Indian buffets on Davie street downtown..but the don't come close to the quality or freshness of the items here..LOVE this place!! Johnathan Z and Cynthia G
Well..after reading the reviews in Dine here we were hesitant to eat here, but Groupon had an offer,so we gave it a shot.Coconut shrimp we ordered came to the table..with no coconut..lol. They used a wonton batter as they were out.Very small prawns..Thai chili sauce was basic...decent.For a $16 appetizer..I expected more. Our waiter [Dave} was personable and funny. my cousin ordered Beef Wellington and after one bite sent it back...very very salty. Pastry surrounding beef was saturated to the point it was quite mushy.Replaced her order with fish and chips.I orderede the AAA sterling 10 oz new york steak..aged 28 days @ $29. I've had sterling 28 day aged steak before, granted this resteraunt is not Hy's,were the steak litterally can be cut with a butter knife..this steak had a bit of gristle, and was chewy. The Oscar sauce was watery..claimed to have crab and shrimp in it..looked everywherer for crab..couldn't spot a sliver of it...asparagus wilted and overcooked. The mashed potatoes were strewn with onion threads..I detest onion..sent them back, but ate the steak as I was hungry. The manager came over to see how the food was..very polite, and we told him about the wellington and potatoes, didn't have the heart to mention the disapointing Oscar sauce...at an additional $7.99...Nice view in atrium overseeing the harbour, but this place needs a chef...a good one..and quality control. I really wanted to enjoy the experience here..Manager and waiter...{Dave} were great, but menu item,,except the fries..oddly enough which were quite good..were subpar.I attended cooking school for 1 1/2 years and if I served this at home..I would have it sent back..
3 times in two weeks I purchased coffee at this location, three times almost all of the creamers were empty...staff where having fun behind counter...one female was telling a story..the other responded with a shrill shriek that emenated throughout the S.U.B. They seemed disinterested with my presence as I waited at the counter...then when I finlly got my coffee..all the cream/milk vessels were empty except one..and I don't put non fat milk in my coffee.I got a gals attention from behind the counter and told her almost all the cream and milk containers were empty...she said ok, ok..someone will be there in a minute...finally they removed all the containers..and set down a carton with about 3 ounzes of coffee cream. The lady getting her coffee prepared beside me said to the girl who came over "this is the worst run Starbucks I have ever been in"...I totally agree. Sad that the students here don't get offered any of the advertised Starbucks specials..this Starbucks dosen't participate in deals..lol. They don't participate in good service either. Most Starbucks I have been in have great caring staff and management...this one is well below grade!
We came over from vancouver and wanted to use a groupon we purchased online. The girl that greeted us at the counter took our groupon, nice smile and very polite. We ordered two chicken wing platters, order was delivered with a greeting from the manager who brought our order over,"Janice" asked if she could bring us anything else, and we asked for some extra suce that came with our yam fries..came to our table in 30 seconds. We found the two ladies very pleasant, and watching them behind the counter reminded me of teamwork..got busy shortly after noon...they were so efficient..and were friendly with all we saw as patrons.Wings were not breaded..or deep fried..tasted like they just came of a Bar-B-Que,on skewers no less. Not just a healthy alternative to the wings we normally encountered in most pubs..but absolutley delicious! Thanks Janice..great atmosphere, food and service! Worth the day trip from Vancouver!
Where do they get the micro or mini chickens from? Granted the wings are served in 2 parts..only half a wing comes to the table,'yet you are charged for a "WING"; these wings were about 1 1/2 inches long and about 3/4 of an inch wide. I ordered 12 fire and Ice and 12 sweet chili,Sauce on both tasted the same and almost broke out laughing when they arrived''I could have eaten 100 wings this size''Lol!!
Went on a Sunday, looking forward to trying the breakfast buffet. It was only 9.95 so thought I would give it a try. Walked in,no hostess..no prob. Stood at the bar and finally got the female bartenders attention,as she was engaged with a patron at the bar. Asked were I should sit..she said anywhere. Restaurant wasn't very busy. Nice atmosphere though..best part of my visit.Decent outside patio too. Cut my own roast beef as no one was tending the smallish buffet ares..lol. Asked about the omelete station as the was no one there either..A cook came out 5 minutes later and made me a decent shimp and cheese omelete. Put some waffles and potatoes on my plate..even though there was steam coming up off the buffet serving trays,my potatoes and waffles couldn't even melt butter..they were stone cold. Bacon was like greasy shoe leather..very tough!! Roast beef very tough also. Waitress came to my table 15 minutes after I started eating. Asked what I would like to drink..ordered a coke with no ice..15 minutes later my coke with ice arives..lol.The staff here is ASLEEP!! Or have no idea about customer service. Clearly they don't need tips at this establishment.
Decent little place for cheap bacon and eggs. But do not order the Eggs Benedict! Asked the cook if it was indeed a real hollandaise sauce with butter, egg yolks..he assured me it was. Half an hour later the waitress comes to me and said my order would be right up and said they were having problems with the sauce! When it arrived I noticed the sauce was a VERY bright yellow! I tasted it..think they used flour, cream and food coloring.if a cook has no idea how to make a dish, take it of the menu...please. The waitress never came over to ask how it was..{I suspect she knew} Finally when she came over 15 minutes after this "attrocity" arrived she asked how my Eggs Benny was..I told her, It was not Eggs Benny, and was one of the worst breakfasts I had ever encountered. She said Ok..no apology. This should have been taken of the bill..it was not. No tip..bad experience.
Second time I tried this spot. Ordered the cheese and meat omelete. There was a sliver of cheese melted on top, more like scrambled eggs, cook couldn't be bothered to fold the omelete, very dry, devoid of taste.Potatoes were clearly from a bag and tasted more of lard than potato. On the bright side the waitress was very friendly, polite and a breath of fresh air. Don't restauranters realize packaged hollandaise tastes like crap?.Was going to try the eggs benny..Thank god I asked to taste the hollandaise sauce first.Great waitress.Poor quality food.
Read some reviews on this place..walked by many times without realizing it was more than a cheese shop. Sadly,I wish I had entrered these premises long ago. I encountered a young lady behind the counter "Adeana" {Probably misspelled}.. was very polite, friendly and told of all the veggies I could add to the sandwich I chose, artichokes, grilled peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, and a few other choices.I had the turkey and hot cappicolla sandwich..which she suggested I try grilled. "The sandwich".. It was Soooo tastey!!I had provolone cheese as well as edam inside it..Very polite helpfull staff here. The other two ladies behind the counter were quite pleasant as well.Sadly...no place to sit in this Italian deli.. I enjoyed my sandwich thouroughly when I returned to work that day. Looking forward to returning here!
Food was great, ordered the ny steak and prawns for $24.95.My steak was tender and tasty, prawns were fresh and cooked perfectly. My lady friend had the roast Turkey and was most impressed. Service was good considering our waiter had many tables to wait on.We had the hot fudge brownie for dessert and it was plentifull and delicious. We also had the sweet potatoe fries and chicken wings. I must admit the hot wings were dry and a wee bit overcooked, but the chipotle mayo was awesome. Fries were decent, again the same sauce prevailed as excellent. This location has a small but aestetically pleasing bar and display fireplace as well.
Graet pizza, ordered from this place 20 times, only once dissapointed. This place has cheap, delicious pizza. nuff said.If you can find a better pizza delivered at this price...I want to try it. This pizza place always surprises me with great pizza at half the price of most pizza places! I live on Clinton street in Burnaby and have found NONE better, but if one exists, please illusidate!
The first thing that strikes you as you enter the Avenue grill is it's intimate size. Pleasantly decorated and on the upscale side with it's decor, typical of Kerrisdale.I ordered the cheddar cheese and ham omelete with sourdough toast for breakfast. The waitress was polite and the coffee was decent, not extrordinary..but ok. With Starbucks,Cafe Artigiano's and Bean brothers on the same block they need to offer the same quality of roast coffee.People who frequent the Kerrisdale "Strip" are used to quality, and expect nothing less.My omelete was average, not much cheddar cheese or ham inside, but it was fluffy and filling, potatoes were fried with a hint of rosemary, but unfortunatley were slightly undercooked . I liked the fact that the waitress brought two mini glass bowls with apricot and strawberry jam, nice touch.Ambience was pleasing, high ceilings, nice bar,yet the sounds in this restaurant resonate and are amplified making my dining experience a noisy one.No manager arguing with customers as a previous diner/reviewer encountered, thank g..A fair experience here.
After having one of the worst burgers ever at Vera's I wanted to go back and try Red Robin. Two of had burgers,Banzai burger and teriyaki chicken burger. Both were delicious.Large and tasty,we ordered a chipotle mayo to dip the fries in,also delicious. Red Robin consistantly has good quality food, our waiter was polite, not intrusive, and smiled upon each appearance at our table.
Two of us arrived at 7:30 pm looking forward to the music provided by Frederico's. I was under the impression there would be a band, and for the prices Frederico charges, there should have been.Caesar salad and a pear salad with brie were tiny, perhaps 1 oz of brie in the salad. They were approximatley $13 each and appetizer sized. The main course of Halibut and scallops on fettucine was decent, but not near worth the $38 pricetag on special. Desserts ranged about $9 each and the Tiramisou was average at best. The Gelato was like supermarket chocolate ice cream. Perhaps the most dissapointing event of the evening was when the music began about 9:45 pm.Frederico stands alone singing unacompanied by any band, but a keyboard and synthesiser...One man show. Granted Frederico has a decent show lounge type voice, but when the hostess told us on the phone when I booked the reservations to make sure we arrived late enough to see the show, both my lady freind and I had the same reaction.."You have got to be kidding". $200 included a mid range bottle of wine.2 martini's,small salads,2 entrees and a split dessert. One couple danced on the small dance floor during our 45 minutes observing the "Show" Service was so-so. Expected ALOT more here.
Was here a month ago, service was virtually non existant. The eggs were runny, even some raw egg on the plate. Potatoes were undercooked, think they used lard on the toast, as margarine is probably too expensive for this excuse for a restaurant.I have had many $2.99 and $3.99 breakfasts in the lower mainland and the breakfast I was served here rates at the very bottom of the scale.
Chili prawns were fresh, sauce was delicious. Chicken and green beans in green curry paste were also very pleasing to the palate. Our waiter "Billy" was very attentive, polite and informative on the ingredients and levels of spiciness. Nice view overlooking Robson street. The only thing I would change is the Pad Thai, as it was fairly bland and a little dry. I mentioned to "Billy" the Singapore slings we ordered could be a tad sweeter and he brought my ladyfriend and I a shooter glass with grenadine to add to our drinks to remedy the situation.Pleasing experience over all.
Have dined at this restaurant for breakfast and lunch many times. The staff is always polite and cheerfull. No wonder this place is usually busy..breakfast is Under $5 inclucing:
coffee, eggs, toast, real potatoes, with bacon, sausage or ham. Coffee flows freely, staff are very nice, foods great..prices are cheap..what more can one ask for?And this is the Amelia restaurant on 6th in New West,..not 12th..have not been to that one yet. Cheers..JFZ
Ordered Chicken with black bean sauce chow mein. Specifically with no onions,as I detest the taste.Even told her {waitress..owner?}I was allergic, as then most restaurants make an effort to avoid them. Dish came to the table..lots of big chunks of white onion were apparent and the noodles were half crunchy and half soft. So I took up the plate to the front counter and asked if these were indeed onions. The reply was, theres only one piece there and to pick it out of the dish..Told her ,and showed her there was many onion pieces in the dish..and was asked to just pick them out. Needless to say,my dish had a onion flavor that really didn't appeal to me. Times I have been to this restaurant before, with some ladyfriends that work in businesses on the same block, the food and service were great, and prices were reasonable, this time I was very dissapointed that they couldn't make the simple effort as to make me a dish the way I requested it.Waitress came to the table and asked if the chow mein was ok..and I told her I was not happy with it. She then offered to replace it but I told her I had to leave in 10 minutes and did not have time to wait. She did deduct the can of coke from the bill for the misunderstanding, but should have deducted the cost of the meal..as for me the coke was the best part..sadly.
