Was hoping for better food
Submitted Wednesday, February 27, 2013 - 12:02pm [Dine in]

It was our first time here a few weeks ago.
We had a bunch of hot food and sushi items.
They we're mediocre at best. The nigiris we ordered had badly cut fish ontop.
The takoyakis were soggy when they were suppose to be crispy.
The menu seems limited but the price was fairly standard compared to other places.
The place was pretty empty for a Friday evening for some reason. The server was very
unattentive, we had to ask for tea numerous times.
She was lounging around talking which I believe was Korean to the chef.
There was absolutely no service.
The room was ok since it just opened late last year.
Oh well, you win some you lose some I suppose.
I guess we lost tonight.

Very well executed

Came here the other day with a group of friends.
We were greeted promptly to a table and were handed menus.
They had really great drink specials going on. Spend $15 or more on food
and get a discounted price on hot sake or Sapporo beer....fabulous!
We ordered a bunch of stuff, they were all tasty but I really enjoyed the tuna
tacos and the house roll they served.

Service was very good as well. They always kept going around asking
everyone if things were ok and filling up on the green tea.

The ambience was nice with the black and white pictures of Japan
enveloping the wall of the restaurant which gave it a modern feel to it
compared to other places. Also, the WC was kept clean and tidy which
I think is very important in a restaurant.

Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely be back
again to take advantage of their drink specials!

Went here the other day with my girl friend since she was so curious. I obliged so we ended up going for dinner there. Menu was very UNCREATIVE and small compared to other izakayas. Seems like the restaurant has no signature dishes. They had the usual chicken karaage,agedashi-tofu,daikon salad with plum dressing(knock-off from Zakkushi on Denman), ebi-mayo (which is much better elsewhere like Hapa), yada yada...
Food was nothing special just like the service.
We asked for water like 3 times and our server finally remembered on the third try. Also had to wait like 15 minutes to get the bill.
Value was mediocre to say the least. Items were starting from around $5.00-$8.50. I would rather go to Guu, Kingyo, Hapa, or elsewhere to be honest.
Ambiance was not to my liking. They had a cheap cheezy kimono thumb tacked to the wall. I believe the owners are not authentic Japanese.
Overall not worth my trip back.

Great time out

Yesterday we finally decided to go to this Guu location after reading several good reviews on here... and without surprise it was a great dining experience.
The menu items were a little different than the other locations, but that was great since variation keeps things new and exciting. The only inconvenience was that the menu printing was very small and the place is darkly litted so it was kinda hard reading the menu.
The service was very good and our server was very helpful.
Presentation of food was more modern by using various shaped white dishes...and the infamous saucing with the usage of squeezie bottles.
1 child and 2 adults came to around $60.00 with tip. That's including a drink each. Well...the child had an orange juice.
Ambiance was very warm and comforting, kinda loud with all the hustle and bustle of the servers and patrons but that is normal at izakayas.
I would highly recommend dining here..
