Definatly Authentic...I'lll give them that
Submitted Friday, April 1, 2016 - 6:54am [Dine in]

Read some reviews. So to clarify one below. This is not a sports bar at all. They do not serve beer, they are not licensed, so by all accounts you are mistaken. I have lived in Mexico decided to try this place. My husband and I pull up -lock our car door!* and without a word of a lie the guy on the front of the web page just happens to be standing in outside...we go inside are greeted right away, sat at a table and are served a little plate of chips with salsa., Mexican soap operas played on the tv. I ordered a bunch of stuff. Carnitas, chicken and pastor tacos, tamales (beef) and torilla soup. Although its hard to match the flavor with the foods you can get out here, the soup didn't taste right and was filled with chips i'd never seen that before. The tacos, Carnitas quite tasty, the chicken was alright, the pastor was a regret. Tamales were decent but quite salty. But overall, if your missing that Mexican kinda experiance, "might" be worth a treck to Whalley. Have some chips and salsa, Mexican soda amd some carnitas.

Really impressive screen, great for watching games
Submitted Saturday, March 26, 2016 - 2:46pm [Dine in]

Nice little place, fun dancing if your into that they have a kinda crowded little dance area. Crowd was fun to watch though. Main reason I went was to have some food and watch soccer on the massive screen. At 8pm they didn't have there signature short ribs, supposedly the were frozen still, so had chicken wings three different flavours they were not very good, the chicken just didn't taste very good, it had a weird flavour to it. The major concern about this place is the service it was the worst I have had in a long time, it took 20 minutes to get a drink. my drink was fine, but my friends was served wrong they ordered 2 shots of rum with a lime over ice, they received the two shots plus soda water no ice -so after a 20 minute wait to receive the drink wrong on top was pretty bad then the waitress came back with the same tall glass that she had dumped and poured in the two shots back into the tall glass, seemed kinda weird. service was consistent for the few hours we were there.

Before a hockey game I have caught myself here a few times in the past year. Every time I order the Beef Wellington, OMG its really good. Tastes exactly how I expect....little expensive in my mind but it is a dish that needs time and care in the preparation. Good job Hy's. Service is also worth a note, our waiter's on all occasions were very professional, attentive but not interruptive.

Three strikes your out
Submitted Friday, July 29, 2011 - 4:41pm [Dine in]

Always loved this place, but it is not so good anymore. Gave my favourite place three last tries and a fail. The food on each occasion was either cold when it should have been hot or vices versa. Their tempura was cold and greasy and I had to send back tempura prawns that were uncooked twice, not expecting free but when they returned with my prawns 10 minutes later they were the same ones as I had broken one in half they just threw them back into the oil and now they were very greasy the second run through and cold again, hmm. I also found their tuna stringy and rolls dry.

Yummy burgers, messy place
Submitted Friday, July 29, 2011 - 4:28pm [Dine in]

People are complaining that their burgers are fattening, greasy, messy, heart-stoppers, hell ya! Their burgers are great. That is if you can get past the greasy- messy seats, windows and floors. Also all three of out orders were wrong, not that big of a deal things like tomatoes when we asked for non and missing mushrooms (their mushrooms are very good btw) I think that they have taken the name "Shack" a little to seriously, this place was as messy as it's employees. Would I go back yes,but not to this location as people usually get spooked when they see a dirty place, I will try one DT. As for takeout service never used it but the burger is a bit greasy so I would think it might be wet if you waited to eat it at home.

Service is not constant
Submitted Saturday, October 2, 2010 - 8:10pm [Delivery]

I think the owner may have changed. I used to order here all the time but the last few times we have had to wait over an hour one time the next one and a half hours for our food. I asked them what time we ordered our food and they actually lied to me about what time it was ordered. When the food 2 med pizza and a couple pops got to my house 1:35 mins later- we only live 5 mins away it was cold overcooked. Will not order here again. I knew what time I ordered I just wanted them to admit that this was not the 45 mins or less as they stated.

Good little restaurant
Submitted Saturday, October 2, 2010 - 8:00pm [Dine in]

Good food, drinks. Nice chocolate martini, food selection is a constant- seems like same stuff all the time. Otherwise staff is nice, ambiance is nice. Mostly couples and not to loud for a little romantic dinner. Worth a try if you looking for a quite place to eat in the White Rock area, right off of Crescent Beach road.

Nice place to impress...the boss
Submitted Tuesday, December 29, 2009 - 9:14pm [Dine in]

I loved this place, never been before. We walked so parking was not an issue but I see how it could be being in the center of Yaletown. To start off I have very high standards on Italian food so maybe I cannot properly judge (as I am bias) Service and greeting is true to the previous reviews. As for the food, I rated it a solid, firstly, kind of small portions and one thing I did notice was the menu was not that extensive, I do not even recall seeing spaghetti on the menu. Positives, appies were delicious, I had the typical Osso Bucco and my husband the ribs…yum yum to both, and my goodness the wine menu was a binder! many bottles into the thousands of dollars- now that’s impressive. The restaurant itself is huge, yet still manages to be cozy for us couples. This certainly seems like a place to smooze the boss, or important male clients. Btw my husband loved both food and ambiance.

Nice

I am quite the critic when it comes to Italian food, so to me the food overall was at bar level- not above or below. .The one thing I did notice was the appies seemed as the though they were made hours before, lettuce was limp-crusty stuff was damp etc. Positives, nice drink selection although no drink list, good selection of wines. Service was fine, ambiance was very nice...perfect, we wanted a quite spot and they put us on their side patio- very nice. Our visit was mid-week so not to busy.

kind of smelly
Submitted Saturday, August 1, 2009 - 2:17pm [Dine in]

I realise this resturaunt is on the water front, but can they not do someting about that odor (maybe I am just sensitive). Food and service is good. I disagree with the pricing you show on this website 20-30$ this is obviously not including anything other than a main course. On a good front the kids meals are very economical and nicely displayed. Everyone at our table was happy with their meal.

Interesting little place. Service was fine. Food was good, my husband and children liked it very much, I was just mildly pleased. It’s an interesting dinner venue, and I did enjoy sitting on the floor to eat it was kind of fun, but, I like my food very hot and it just wasn't. Food that is served luke warm gives me the idea that it has been sitting around for hours. Not sure I would be back; it just didn’t stand out for me

Booked this restaurant through Open Seating online, we couldn’t get in until 8pm when we arrived at the restaurant it was almost empty. Call restaurant for reservations because that systems must be flawed. Service was the best I have had in this city, maybe because the restaurant only had a few tables booked, but it was still a pleasure. Food and wine were also very good. Nice little restaurant. Valet parking outside. Quite peaceful and an overall good experience.

Loud, not as romantic as I expected
Submitted Thursday, March 5, 2009 - 5:07pm [Dine in]

Nice little restaurant. I have been here 3x now over the past few years. I do love French. Bar drinks are not that great, on two of my visits the waiter had to apologize for the "new bartender"...not sure how tough it is to pour a martini, the drink was short and took 15 minutes to arrive, however wine selection is fine. Food is good, and meal size per dollar is as expected. Service is a bit lacking. Overall the restaurant is small and overcrowded, as fore mentioned it is to loud to be romantic. It has more of an after closing broker feeling to it.
