Sandbar Seafood Restaurant1535 Johnston Street, Vancouver
One of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver
Submitted Friday, March 21, 2008 - 6:17am [Dine in]

I have never had a bad experience here. I spent an intimate birthday dinner here and enjoyed every moment of it. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone I know.

The Sablefish is tremendous, the lobster is delicious, the chowder is soooo good. The portions are fair for what you pay and just typing this review makes me hungry and wanting more =)
If you've never been, give it a shot =)

Next time, I'll go upstairs...
Submitted Monday, September 24, 2007 - 11:40am [Dine in]

We sat downstairs, a group of 6 people and while most of us enjoyed the night, it felt as if the money could have been spent better elsewhere. With the tables being too close together and waitresses and people trying to maneuver their way across the restaurant, it was extremely uncomfortable.

It was also extremely hot inside the restaurant and it actually made me quite nauseous. The washroom is nice but with one toilet, this could pose as a long wait time for some.

When I went upstairs it seemed a lot quiet, nicer and it felt more comfortable, almost night and day.

If I go again, it will be upstairs...

As for the food, I had the ravioli, it was decent. A little heavy on the butter but it was definitely decent.

Overall, I wasn't comfortable and it really was a shame.

Ebisu on Robson827 Bute Street, Vancouver
Not a suitable dinner choice
Submitted Tuesday, July 31, 2007 - 10:49am [Dine in]

I can picture Ebisu as a solid lunch and after dinner experience. It does almost feel like an asian sports bar.

The one memorable dish I had was the taco rice which was flavor full and to die for. Of course without being too lazy, I'm sure anyone can prepare this dish at home.
The service was alright and the food wasn't too bad overall. I found it a bit too pricey for what it was.

Their drinks are flavorful and sweet as we had a lychee drink which came highly recommended.

I will probably end up back here at some point...

The King of all Japanese Izakaya

Me and my friends have a subtitle for each of the Guu's in Vancouver

Date Guu - Gastown - For a nice little date with the full Guu experience I believe this is the best of the bunch
Ghetto Guu - Thurlow - This is a Loud, small and fun experienece - should be experienced by all
Casual Guu - Robson - More mellow and calming
Chinese Guu - Richmond - Often empty and as listed by a previous reviewer, the only similarity is the name

This particular Guu is great as they shout out your order while you are announcing your choices. The food is sometimes a little strong tasting with a bit too much sauce but a simple scrape off the food is all that is needed to fix that.

The staff have never disappointed me, and I often find that a lot of Western restaurants can learn off of some of these servers.

I still don't understand the concept of a cold towel at the beginning of the meal but whatever floats their boat.

What I love about the gastown Guu is there is hardly ever a wait, even on weekends. I can not say the same about Thurlow as there have been multiple instances where I have wandered Robson for 45 minutes and still have to wait another half hour to seat.

I strongly recommend either the Gastown or Thurlow Guu.

You can't go wrong here...

Massive sushi rolls, and it's not just becaues of the rice they pile on. You can easily be full by spending no mroe then 6 dollars on 2 rolls.
I always do take out but on occasion I will dine in and have no complaints. The washroom isn't the cleanest but, oh well hahaha.

Intimate and fun

We just got back and we each had different pastas and the only negative I have to say about this restaurant would be that, the tomato based pastas weren't the greatest...

Soup was a good portion and very tasty.
The waitress we had was very pleasent.
All in all, it's worth a try...
