Red Chilli Szechuan Cuisine741 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver
Excellent Food
Submitted Tuesday, September 8, 2009 - 4:54pm [Dine in]

We've been going to this place for the past couple years. We enjoy the hot&sour, and wonton soups. The food in general is very flavorful and fresh. The food is cooked and stir fried on high heat and therefore the service is very fast. The food does not contain that old oily flavor which a lot of other restaurants seem to have. Our favorite all time dish is the crab cooked in a hot pot along with the optional noodles. The flavor is absorbed by the noodles and is wonderful. We've had this dish 3 times and always want more! I recommend this place if you are looking for good quality, spicy szechuan cuisine. Definitely try the crab.

Twisted Fork Bistro1147 Granville Street, Vancouver
A little gem tucked away on Granville!
Submitted Sunday, September 6, 2009 - 7:56pm [Dine in]

We found this little gem after reading all the reviews on DineHere.ca. Twisted Fork is a casual bistro with fine dining. We went on a Wednesday night and were greeted by a friendly hostess and waiter. It's no secret that the chefs enjoy food and it shows in their creativity and exceptional food.

We decided to order "small forks" plates i.e. tapas and a bottle of red wine. We tried the mussels in a creamy sauce, beef shortribs, rosemary beef tenderloin, and an array of other items on the menu. We were pleasantly surprised that every dish was consistent, well presented, and had a mixture of flavors and textures. And to finish off, we had the Caramel Napoleon for dessert but it was paired with fresh strawberries and not raspberries since the bistro had run out of them. Wow, the dessert was fantastic.

We look forward to visiting this restaurant again and we will go for the main menu dishes next time.

I've been to this restaurant three times and have found the quality of food and service to be consistent and excellent. It is a cozy yet elegant restaurant with a great selection of wines. The food is very good and the waiters are knowledgable about the food & wine. I highly recommend this place.

Very nice ambiance but OK food
Submitted Friday, August 14, 2009 - 11:47pm [Dine in]

I visited Chop several months ago with my 7 yr old for lunch. We entered the restaurant through the bar area and were greeted by a waitress who showed us our way to the seating area in the restaurant. She even gave us a tour of Chop. It is a very trendy looking bar/restaurant and at the time I thought it would be a great place to visit at night for drinks and snacks. For lunch, we ordered some steak bites (I forget the name on the appetizer menu), and halibut fish. The fish was good but the sides were very average. We also had a side of french fries which were pretty good. The steak bites were quite good too. The price however was for two appetizers and a lunch dish was extremely pricy. I would not have minded paying it for dinner but for lunch it was just a tad too much. Food was good but not outstanding. I will go back at some point but most likely for drinks and appetizers. I don't mind paying big bucks for food but it has to be very good at those prices.

We decided to visit this restaurant tonite (Friday night) after seeing all the great reviews. This is a tiny restaurant located on Main Street near 29th. The food is pretty good. My husband had the roast lamb with chick peas and it had an Indian flavor to it. It was quite good. I ordered a steak and my daughter had a pizza. It was a thin crust pizza with lamb sausage and chili flakes. Quite good but it came out on the colder side. The steak was cooked to perfection. And the lamb was excellent! We also shared an upside down banana cake (vegan) for dessert which had a nice flavor. All in all, I give this place a solid 3 for ambiance, service and food. I will definitely go back because I see a lot of potential with this place and given they change their menu quite frequently I'd definitely like to go back and sample a few more dishes.

Last thing, the ingredients were definitely fresh and were not greasy. I look forward to visiting again.

Hole in the Wall - Great Food
Submitted Thursday, August 13, 2009 - 7:23pm [Dine in]

Kabob Hut is a real hole in the wall restaurant located near Main and 49th. The lamb kabob and chicken tikka is great. You can see the cooks placing the meat on the skewers and cook them in a tandoor. It reminds me of rural India. We also ordered chai (tea) along side with the dishes and it was very good and well priced. This is a great takeout place. There are a few tables inside and next door the owner has an eating area as well but the ambiance is not good. A definite must try!

Excellent Japanese Food
Submitted Thursday, August 13, 2009 - 12:31am [Dine in]

Tararenbo by far is the best Japanese restaurant in Richmond & Vancouver. I've been to several restaurants in Ontario and throughout Vancouver/Richmond however this restaurant is very consistent in terms of quality. The staff are very friendly and anytime you enter, you are greeted in a friendly manner. The food is excellent and the quality is consistent every time. I've been to other good Japanese restaurants in Richmond but sometimes they are not consistent.

We usually order the karagi chicken, miso yaki fish, torarenbo spicy rolls (wow!), salmon sockeye nigiri sushi, mixed tempura, don buri beef, edamame and I tell you the food is excellent! We have been hooked to this place since moving here to BC and we never get tired of this place. I highly recommend this place. Note if you go on a weekend, I highly advise reservations otherwise you may end up waiting 20 to 40 minutes.

Very good Afghan Food
Submitted Thursday, August 13, 2009 - 12:22am [Dine in]

This is a family owned restaurant that serves fresh Afghani food. We used to go to the original restaurant and they then expanded and opened a newer restaurant in Surrey. We usually order the combination dishes with lamb kabob, rice, chicken, and the eggplant dish served with a yogurt based chutney. The food is very flavorful and the staff are friendly. The only disappointment is the service is sometimes a bit on the slow side. If you go during a weekday then it should be ok. I recommend this place!

Not that Great
Submitted Wednesday, August 12, 2009 - 9:43pm [Dine in]

I went for lunch to this place and tried their buffet. It was relatively new and my understanding is its the sister restaurant of Sapphron also located on Kingsway. The food is average at best. I had the butter chicken, a few of the vegetarian dishes but the food was just average and lacked flavor. A friend of mine had dinner there and ordered a la carte but he had a better experience than me.

Excellent sandwiches!!!
Submitted Wednesday, August 12, 2009 - 9:38pm [Dine in]

Wow! I never thought I would ever say wow to a sandwich. I'm not big on sandwiches but decided to give this place a try after seeing the reviews. I had a 1/2 focaccia sandwich with mexican salami (I think they mentioned it is made with tequila), artichokes, other vegetables, cheese etc, olive oil, etc. All I can say is this sandwich was amazing and so full of flavor. We went back the next day to have it again. Highly recommended!

Not that Great
Submitted Wednesday, August 12, 2009 - 9:29pm [Dine in]

I had been to Green Lettuce last year for lunch. Having been to authentic Indian-Chinese restaurants in New Delhi, I was hoping to have an experience. I tried the chilli chicken, hakka noodles & gobi manchurian. The gobi manchurian was deep fried and came out rather soggy. The chilli chicken had a nice flavor but not up to par with a good Indian-Chinese restaurant. It was missing something. The noodles were ok ...just very oily and missing the hakka flavors. If you haven't been to an authentic Indian-Chinese restaurant then you don't know what you are missing so you may find this good. For me it was just average. A good place I recently found was in Delta on Scott Road. It's called Hakka Masti and the flavors came on par with what you find in Delhi.

One last thing, I noticed they don't have the green chillis in vinegar at each table. It adds a hint of sour and spice to the food and is typical for an Indian-Chinese restaurant. I asked for some and the jar they provided had very old and soggy chillis. Seemed like they'd been in the jar for the past year.

This place just didn't cut it for me. It was just average at best.

Not that great!
Submitted Saturday, August 1, 2009 - 9:04pm [Dine in]

We came in from Vancouver and decided to try out Stage restaurant last night in the Fernwood area after reading these reviews. We had heard it was the sister restaurant of Paprika which he had tried last year and had found it to be excellent. Stage has a nice ambiance and the waiters were attentive to our needs. We ordered a nice bottle of wine and sampled a few different dishes. The food was ok, not great. I found most of the dishes were on the saltier side. I like salty foods but this was a bit overbearing and I had to wash down the food with a lot of water. We ordered duck confit, bread (forgot the name of it but it was crispy and had garlic), lamb sausage with hummous, stage fries, octopus, and for dessert brownies. The lamb sausage was very good but the hummous pairing was very very salty. The octpus was decent but again on the salty side so part way through we left it. By the time we got through our 4th dish, we tried to get some greens and ordered the cauliflower/brocolli dish which was bland...nothing great. The only thing that was good was the wine and the chocolate brownie dessert. The food is average at best. I don't really recommend this place....maybe for a quick snack or something. If you are a foodie, don't bother with this place...

Bad Food Nice Ambiance
Submitted Sunday, April 12, 2009 - 9:24am [Dine in]

We had an office party here back in December 2008. The ambiance is nice. However the food is not good. Very bland! We had the lamb which was tough and bland. And along as sidedishes were boiled peas. Just a very boring and bland combination. I don't remember the rest of the foods that were ordered. I sampled all of them including hte dessert, creme brulee and it was terrible. Don't waste your money here. They need to replace the chef!

Excellent Indian-Chinese Food
Submitted Friday, April 3, 2009 - 11:13pm [Dine in]

This is a relatively new restaurant in Surrey and I have to say it is a hidden jewel. We were very impressed with the food. It is a fusion blend of Chinese and Indian. The food is very authentic Indian-Chinese with distinct flavors. I've eaten Indian-Chinese in Delhi over the years and this is the first time I've encountered a true Indian-Chinese restaurant in North America. This place is definitely much better than Green Lettuce Restaurant, Asian Spice rest and other Chinese-Indian restaurants located in Surrey & Burnaby.

The food tastes fresh and is not very oily like the other places. I've been here twice and we had the Hakka Vegetable Noodles, chicken manchurian, kofta manchurian (veg), and man chow soup which is awesome. The food is so full of flavour and tastes fresh. You can taste distinctive flavors of coriander and spices.

If you are a food lover and enjoy fine foods, I think you'll be in for a treat. This one is now in our top 10 list.
