I have always go for the Appy-Dessert Buffet for $32, nothing else. Can't go wrong for those who likes seafood as that is what they offer at the appetizer buffet (mussels, clams, dungeness crab legs, sometimes king crap legs, smoke salmon, etc). Highly recommended for any occasion! Decent price and quality of food from a hotel.
All the food on the menu look like home-made stuff and not good enough for the public (thou many still order the food since price is decent), I can make most of the food better (look & taste) myself. Drinks are alright with good selection of them however SERVICE is bad. They often push you to leave the store (EVEN if is not the closing time NOR people waiting anywhere). I have friends who went they have many complaints, one of them mistaken ordered the wrong item but is willing to pack the mistaken order home and re-order. The manager come barging telling their waitresses that is not their problem and is the customer's fault. (ummm we know that already, but he still has to come stress about it).
Today went with gf to the place for a dinner. Ordered the Love Boat for Two for $30 (as the assorted sashimi plate would have cost $25 iteself), so the boat is a decent deal (that comes with 2x miso soup OR salad). Also ordered extra Nigiri (Hotate @ $1.95, Red Tuna @ $2.95, Toro @ $1.95) and price IS NOT overpriced as other member(s) claimed. [ I recently ordered the same items from a Jap restaurant from Whistler and Akari's tasted way better and price is also cheaper ]. Last the dessert was the Green Tea Cream Burlee for $4.95 (basically a regular cream burlee with a touch of ginger and matcha green tea blended together) but overall is a decent and good place within Coquitlam.
If people say this is overpriced, what is Tojo then?
1st time to try it out during the DOV 2009 and the black bean paste (spread) was a suprise as i couldn't imagine that would be made into a spread in a Mediterranean style restaurant. It is a decent place overall, BUT not something I would recommend (since the location is by UBC and food aren't SUPER good)
Went there with coupon for $25 for the 3-course LobsterFest dinner. First, the lobster bisque was very salty. Is the most salty soup ever had in an American restaurant. 2ndly, I asked for the med. rare steak and there came the med. well-done. However the service was great to have the steak exchanged (server said it will take a minute, it actually took 49 seconds). Then came the manager, she apologized about the soup and the steak and said would give extra discounts on "both" meals. In the end there wasn't any discounts applied as I have provided my own coupon for the dinner anyways. Overall the service is great in terms of correcting their mistakes.
BEST DOV2009 restaurant of all the ones I have went this year! It is located beside the Nova Scotia Theater and not only is listed under the $28 category, the food were absolutely delicious. First the appies were great, a good selection of [Tuna Trio, Lobster Spring Rolls, or Assorted Sashimi]. The entrees were awesome with the choice of [BBQ Rack of Ribs (8 sticks), Lobster Curry Hot Pot or Sable Cod]. The Rack of Ribs itself would have cost $25 from Montana's or Tony Roma's and the Lobster Hot Pot came with scallops, mussels and 4-pcs of lobster w/ shell attached. (I can see that 90% of the tables ordered the hot pot). However the dessert portion is quite small. Like I said, one of the best I have had this year! Highly recommended!!!
Went there for NYE dinner with a couple of friends, we had the deluxe menu ($31 after tax and tips). Overall food is good with many many varieties (lamb chop, ox tongue, geoduck, sockeye salmon, fresh oysters, sweet prawn [shrimp], bake pearl pudding, deep fried milk, etc). Definitely have to mention that their sashimi and bake oyster is absolutely very small. I would say their raw fish portion halved of what I usually get from other AYCE places.
Service is OKAY, as they seem to be asking you all the time if you guys are done for the night (maybe is their 2 hour limit OR there are still people waiting outside). However most asian restaurant would have the 2 hour limit where they would sometimes stop your order and make you wait wait wait and just leave in the end. That was the bad from yesterday.
I think I ate 50+ of raw altantic salmon plus other raw food and a couple dozen of oysters myself and over 200+ pieces along with the 4 other friends. One of the better Top Gun Group restaurants. Would recommend.
Went there with a friend because Sushi Garden was fully packed (full plus another 20 ppl waiting inside) so decided to go to Daimasu instead. Didn't like the fact that they don't accept debit card but overall it was good on the food. Their 9pcs toro sashimi was a great deal! Regular price is $12.95, now only $6.95. When comparing with other sashimi (salmon, tuna, etc) THIS IS A VERY CHEAP PRICE!. Ordered the sashimi boat for $23, the amount was OKAY, with 2 fresh oysters but portion is kind of small =)
