Shanghai Village3250 Cambie Street, Vancouver
Not worth it
Submitted Friday, April 9, 2010 - 10:23pm [Dine in]

When Shanghai Village first opened, it was a pleasant surprise in a neighbourhood of generally uninspired Chinese food. Unfortunately, they have not lived up to their initial promise. While the quality of the food is adequate, the service continues to be worse than terrible and their prices are higher than other nearby restaurants with better food. Not worth returning to -- particularly when Broadway or Main Street are just a short walk away.

Underwhelming and Overpriced
Submitted Sunday, May 31, 2009 - 12:43am [Dine in]

There are better choices for Middle Eastern food in Vancouver. While the quality of the food was alright -- edible but certainly not outstanding -- it is overpriced for what it is. The wine menu pricing is very misleading -- probably has not been updated in a while. The service was friendly but haphazard. All in all, a disappointing experience. We will not be back.

Kabab Hut219 E 49th Ave, Vancouver
Good solid choice in the Punjabi Market area
Submitted Sunday, May 31, 2009 - 12:34am [Dine in]

My previous experiences with the restaurants at 49th and Main have been disappointing -- bland and uninspired food. Kabab Hut is a welcome change -- as long as you're interested in takeout and in non-vegetarian choices. While the service is friendly this, as other reviewers have commented, is most certainly a hole-in-the wall. My modus operandi has now become to get some of the excellent meat choices to go, buy some Indian vegetables in the nearby grocery stores, return home to cook the vegetables and enjoy a meat and vegetable balanced meal!

Not as good as it used to be
Submitted Monday, March 23, 2009 - 10:59pm [Dine in]

This used to be a pretty solid take-out sushi place, but my recent visits have been disappointing. The quality of the sushi seems to have gone down -- the rice is almost consistently dry and flavourless, and the teriyaki, etc. bland. It's a popular place for lunch for office-goers, so unless you get there really early there's a long line. I've tried calling, but my order is often incorrect. It used to be worth it, since the sushi was quite good. But now, while its not terrible, I wouldn't bother going there since the sushi quality is mediocre.
