A wonderful mother's day brunch
Submitted Friday, May 15, 2009 - 4:00pm [Dine in]

What a lovely mother's day brunch! Mom and I attended Cru's first brunch - at $25 a head - excellent value. We shared a basket of delicious baked goodies - incredible banana bread with lovely jams, then Mom had a heavenly duck dish (on their normal dinner menu) and I had a mouth watering chorizo frittata. We both had the earl grey creme brulees: amazing! Our waiter was so attentive - he was so well educated about the dishes and was obviously passionate about the food. The ambiance was that of a typical French restaurant - tables close together, a buzz in the air. All the staff were very friendly, we will definitely return!

A disappointment
Submitted Friday, May 15, 2009 - 3:56pm [Dine in]

After receiving recommendations to visit Cardero's, husband and I went for a dinner there. My clam chowder was disappointing, his jumbo prawns far from jumbo and his lamb was mediocre. My tuna dish was very good - the best thing about the evening. We had the highly recommended chocolate mousse - it was ok, but nothing wonderful. Our server was really odd - she didn't seem to connect with anything we asked and had a very fake face on, although other servers who brought our plates or walked by seemed much more attentive. A beautiful location and lovely big room, a little noisy but we were sitting next to each other. Not great value for what we paid. Wouldn't return.

Asa Sushi2178 West 41 Avenue, Vancouver
Appeared to be popular but didn't impress!
Submitted Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 2:59pm [Dine in]

I originally chose this place as it was crowded at 6pm on a Monday so thought I would be good. However, the sushi was really bad, it was dry and tasteless, falling apart before I even could pick it up with my chopsticks. Also, the service was really poor, I had to motion a few times for the servers to come to me (for soy sauce bowl, tea etc) - I hate doing that! Unfortunately I wouldn't return! The one redeeming feature was its price - it is very cheap sushi so you don't feel so bad wasting that amount of money!

Pair gone bad!
Submitted Friday, November 28, 2008 - 4:27pm [Dine in]

Wrote a review a few months back - it used to be our favourite restaurant - until recently - our friends went and had a disappointing meal and we thought we'd go and dispel their rumours. However, we were disappointed also. The mushroom latte was still delightful however the Elk I had previously dreamed about was tasteless and the vegetables were hardly cooked. The lamb was mediocre and the desserts (earl grey brulee and chocolate pudding) were sound. The service was not outstanding as it had been in previous evenings (we've been a lot) and overall we left having felt we'd paid a lot for a dissatisfying meal. We wont go back.

A unique spot to dine!
Submitted Saturday, July 19, 2008 - 11:34am [Dine in]

One of my favourite spots in Vancouver to eat. The wait can be long and annoying - squashed against the wall. However, once you get a table and your food arrives I cannot complain. This food here is extraordinary! I have never been disappointed from the following dishes: Portobello Mushroom, Baked Brie, Black Olive Hummus, and the Oven Dried tomato salsa. The navojo fry bread - oh goodness - is to die for!!! The desserts are yummy too - if you have room! The cheese cake is usually our favourite. Definately visit this place though at a quiet time!

Crave3941 Main St., Vancouver
A big disappointment!
Submitted Saturday, July 19, 2008 - 11:20am [Dine in]

After our friends recommendation to visit their favourite restaurant we bounded to Crave excited to try a new place. We were welcomed by a kind hostess who found us a lovely table within a few minutes which was pleasing for a busy Friday night. However that was as good as it got. Our waiter was somewhat helpful but certainly didn't ingratiate himself towards us, the barman made slip-ups with our drinks and we waited over 1 1/2 hours for our meals. The Mojitos were tasteless and the organic burger was mediocre and the Chicken brie melt was pretty terrible. It certainly not worth the wait nor the prices (though not too expensive) but we are certainly don't crave Crave again!
