Wouldn't go back
Submitted Wednesday, June 17, 2009 - 1:06am [Dine in]

Four of us went for a girls night out here one Friday night and we all agreed the place was pretentious and over priced. We walked in around 7 and the place was 3/4 empty and we were told there was no room for us so we'd have to sit at the bar. This was fine as one of our friends hadn't arrived yet, so we grabbed a cocktail and waited it out. A half hour later the hostess told us we could sit on their patio, so we picked up our drinks and we're crammed into a tiny table that barley fit two. We then had to move again inside to a real table this time, where our server was great until we asked for the bill. She put all of us on the same bill which was fine until I asked her if she could split it as we were all paying separate and different ways. I waited for about 10 minutes by the debit machine.... again fine as it was now busy, however when I asked her about dividing up the bill she told me to add it up myself and she was to busy to do it. She followed it up with " I'm sorry if that sounded bitchy. I'm just really busy."
I understand if a server is busy, just be polite about it.
Due to that and the overpriced bland and small portions of food, not to mention the worst cheese plate ever, I won't be going back.

Athene's3618 West Broadway, Vancouver
One of my favourite places to eat
Submitted Wednesday, June 17, 2009 - 12:50am [Dine in]

I've never had a bad experience here. The service is wonderful and the food is always fantastic and fast! The servers are incredibly friendly and always timely. I've been been to Athene's for lunch and dinner with large and small groups and the food and service is always consistent. If I'm ever in doubt of where to go for dinner, I go here.

All over a wonderful restaurant.

You're paying for the view
Submitted Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - 1:17am [Dine in]

It's the best view in town and that's about all.

On a hot summer day there is nothing better than grabbing a table at this place and drinking a cold bevy. The selection of beer is moderate, the food is slow, expensive and mediocre at best, and the place is packed all summer.

If you have a week day off head down in the afternoon before the crowds and enjoy the view and a pint, as it is the best view in Vancouver.

It's Western Comfort Food
Submitted Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - 12:46am [Dine in]

I don't mind going to The Red Door as the decor is trendy, the service is solid, and the cocktails are great. The food is very western, even though the servers go to great lengths to tell you it's "authentic". It's great place to go before a movie or to get a bunch of share plates with friends/ a date as the portions are a fair size.

Bottom line is that it's good comfort food at a decent price on Granville.

Flying Tiger, The2958 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
Cool Joint, good service
Submitted Tuesday, June 16, 2009 - 12:05am [Dine in]

My partner and I headed to the Flying Tiger on a Friday night, the place was packed but we managed to get a seat at the bar. The service was great, and the servers were very friendly. Our tapas came up quickly and our glasses never went dry, which is a nice change of pace for most dining establishments in Vancouver. The prices were a bit high, but I don't mind paying more when the service is good.

We started off with the green beans which were cooked perfectly, nice and tender and piping hot. We followed it up with steamed dumplings which were again piping hot, fresh and tasty. For our main dishes we both had Hawker Street Noodles. I asked for mine without the seafood and they easily accommodated this and added extra veggies for me without even being asked. The only glitch in our meal was that one of my partners prawns was off, you could tell by the smell. That aside though solid meal and really good service. We would go back

I could do it better at home....
Submitted Sunday, June 14, 2009 - 2:30am [Dine in]

I have gone to Quattro's every year for my mother in-laws birthday for the past four years, and every year the food and service seems to decline. The in-laws started off with the antipasto platter which was top notch in terms of meat selection and variety, (the caper berries were a nice touch). I started off with the roasted beet and goat cheese salad, that was served cold and tasted like table salt had been mixed with olive oil and dumped on my plate--- overall not impressed. The meat dishes and mushroom ravioli were a big hit at the table, however the penne tasted like it came out of a can-- I could have made a better sauce at home. While the food was overall a solid rating, the service was poor. Our waiter took 20 minutes to bring us our drinks (while the restaurant was virtually empty), 45 minutes in between our appies and main meal, and another half hour for dessert. For the price of the meal, the quality, and the service we will keep our visits down to once a year if that.

Revel Room238 Abbott Street, Vancouver
Nice lighting, terrible service
Submitted Sunday, June 14, 2009 - 2:10am [Dine in]

A bunch of us headed out to the Revel Room for a friends birthday party with a reservation on the top floor. Knowing a rather large party was attending on a Friday night, there was only one server on shift at the time which made the service terrible. Most of our drinks never made it to the table because our server forgot them, and the ones that did arrive were mediocre and over priced. The ambiance was pleasing, but the lack of service and over priced food is enough to ensure I won't be returning.

Tequila Kitchen1043 Mainland Street, Vancouver
Fantastic- Best Margarita's in Town!
Submitted Sunday, November 2, 2008 - 11:11pm [Dine in]

It's not very often that you experience a great meal and fantastic service, however the Tequila Kitchen delivered both. My family and I walked in without reservations on the Thanksgiving weekend and were seated promptly. The servers were friendly and accommodating to a family style vegetarian menu, and the food was fresh and possibly the best meal I've had in ages.
I will be going back soon to have another traditional Margarita, black bean soup, and crepe with house-made caramel sauce. Amazing all around and fantastic dining experience.

Aphrodite's Organic Delights Cafe3598 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver
poor service and food
Submitted Sunday, November 2, 2008 - 10:37pm [Dine in]

When Aphrodite's cafe first opened it was a great place to go for a bite to eat, however now I can't even bring my self to go in for coffee. The food has gone down hill and the service is poor to the point where it becomes frustrating. The last time I went in it took 45 minutes for a bowl of soup, which was stodgy and tasteless. While the establishment is a great concept of being local and organic it really needs improvement.

Rodney's Oyster House1228 Hamilton Street, Vancouver
Surf, but don't turf this joint!
Submitted Tuesday, August 15, 2006 - 1:00am [Dine in]

Rodney’s Oyster House is a fun venue to venture to for an evening of seafood. The venue is typically Yaletown, very trendy and a cool atmosphere that also comes with a pricey bill at the end of the evening. Our party of 6 stumbled in at prime dinner time, with no reservations and still managed to get a table without waiting (the luck of a Monday night dinner I’m sure). Regardless though the place was hopping, and we still received great service with a minimal wait time, and properly timed appetizers. Between the six of us we covered a vast majority of the menu and all walked out satisfied without a single complaint. However while I’m sure most people go for Oysters, which where excellent steamed, raw, and pan fried they do secretly offer a veggie menu for those who shy away from fish, which included their house salad in a light vinaigrette, and a vegetable pasta done in a tomato cream sauce. All in all I would recommend this restaurant if you have a love for seafood and some cash to spend on a good evening.

Eatery, The3431 W Broadway, Vancouver
Miso hungry...and waiting
Submitted Tuesday, August 15, 2006 - 12:02am [Dine in]

The Eatery is a hip place to be any day of the week, but as it has already been stated one would not like to have a first date or an introduction to the family there. The service leaves something to be desired, but I think it is partly because they are severely understaffed at all times. Plus as it is “the place to be” it’s consistently packed and the waits can be long just to get a table, not to mention receiving your food. The best time to go is normally during the day for lunch as you can eat, have room to breath, and often receive your food on time. On the whole the food is a little pricey in comparison to most Japanese food restaurants, but the menu offers interesting variations on old classics (the Godzilla Roll comes recommended). Ultimately though the Eatery provides a very hip atmosphere, with plesant but over worked staff, and is not a bad place to grab a bite to eat and a beer with your friends, just as long as you have time to wait.

Mark's Fiasco2486 Bayswater, Vancouver
Overall a good Fiasco
Submitted Monday, August 14, 2006 - 10:16pm [Dine in]

Generally I like this establishment, but I think it really depends on your server. Most of the staff are great and very attentive, but I have had a few that ignore you and try to clear you out as soon as your fork hits your empty plate. Despite this qualm of mine I have to say their food has been consistent and always fresh, especially their goat cheese ravioli and hand made pizzas. Additionally their drink menu is reasonably priced with a wide selection for everybody, and to top it all off the ambiance is comfortable and spacious so I‘ve never had to wait for a table. All in all if your looking for a cool hangout for an evening in Kits, I would recommend Mark’s Fiasco.

Nevermind3293 West Fourth Ave, Vancouver
Nevermind, nevermind
Submitted Saturday, April 29, 2006 - 11:05pm [Dine in]

If I didn’t live within blocks of Nevermind, believe me I wouldn’t bother eating there. I am a firm believer that every restaurant deserves a chance to redeem itself from terrible service and mediocre food, however this particular eatery is out of chances. My first experience at Nevermind included hair in the food, a small portion of wings for an outrageous price point, and an out to lunch/rude waitress who ignored her entire section to sit at a table with her friends. My second dining attempt incorporated many of the same elements, but this time our small group of potential eaters were seated next to a party of 25-30 people, while the remaining sections of the restaurant (which were open) were left fairly empty. To summarize our night, our waitress ignored our table all evening, one of our orders was never filled (which resulted in a complementary meal), and the food that did arrive was bland and burnt.
I would only recommend going to Nevermind if you don’t care about service and you’re not a fussy eater. The only positive comments that I can give this establishment are the fact that their cocktail menu (again overpriced) is creative to the point where they make a decent martini, and the décor is at least trendy.
