You should expect, and want, to wait

Vij's is one of Vancouver's premiere dining establishments. Everything from the moment you walk in is part of the experience. I've never gotten a table right away and would never want to. There is a lounge area at the back of the restaurant where you can sit, enjoy some wine, and try some samples being hand-delivered to you by the owner, Vikram. Prices are quite reasonable given the restaurants reputation (they could get away with charging so much more). Ask anyone who's been there about Lamb Popsicles and watch them salivate. The staff is so knowledgable and friendly and the atmosphere is unreal.

If you've never been, you're only excuse should be that you live in Nunavut.

Finally, a gem in Maple Ridge

My wife is originally from Maple Ridge so every time we were out there to visit friends and family, we would try to find a restaurant that we could enjoy. This was a fruitless venture for a while until we first went to Lava (after it changed ownership and stopped being a steakhouse).

The first time we went in, we had an unbelievable time. The service and the food were both top-notch. The prices were very reasonable, especially for wine. It had all the elements I look for when heading downtown for a meal, with none of the outrageous prices and pretentiousness that typically follow.

It was so good, in fact, that my wife and I returned less than a week later. Robert remembered our names and welcomed us back with open arms and it was then that we knew we had found our spot. From then on, birthdays, Mothers Days, and general causes for celebrations have been held there on a consistent basis. The consistency of their quality and service have made it difficult to imagine going anywhere else. We will often make the drive from Burnaby to Maple Ridge specifically for Lava. We've brought a number of friends out from Vancouver and the Tri-Cities to try it, and they've all left impressed.

If you live in or near Maple Ridge, you have no excuse. If you don't, it's worth the drive. Enjoy!
