We decided on brunch this morning with a gift certificate for DeDutch.
It was Sunday morning at 11 am. We had to wait about 10 mins.
I agree with others, this place is very small. Although I find that many other of the DeDutch restaurants are also very small. I am not sure why.
But once I was seated I did not really care about the size of the place.
The coffee arrived right away, and was regularly filled, and we even got more cream when we were running low and we did not even ask.
I had the Boer’s (Farmer’s) which includes
Hash Browns, Ham, DeBakon*, Bratwurst,
Eggs and Hollandaise all places on a large dutch thin pancake, or what we might call a crepe.
The hashbrowns were my least favourite, not much flavour and not crisp enough.
My sunnyside eggs were perfect!, the bacon and ham were great and the Bratwust was amazing. It
was full of flavour, so juicy with a perfect grill char. I loved it.
The dutch pancake was great, with a bit of a chew to it, I would like to try it plain with lemon and sugar next time.
Rainbowcrab had the french toast with egg and bacon. She really enjoyed it all.
We got a great amount of food and left full and satisfied.
We will go back.
This place is near my office, and although I do agree with other posters it is a bit pricey, I really enjoy the
food, and think that everything I have had has been wonderful.
The people who work there are hard working, It can get very busy and I have seen the girls actually running around.
The woman who is older, who I think is the mother, sometimes takes orders, and I do not think her english is very good, as she did get my order wrong once.
But they are so kind and helpful, they keep my tea full and my belly happy!
I will continue to return.
Rainbowcrab and I went here with our groupon. I was very excitied to try the slow roasted lamb. I was sad to discover that they did not have the lamb at this location, but did at the Pemberton location. So I decided to try and roasted sirloin steak sandwich, and chose to have it with mayo, the spicy cilantro sauce ( Mmmm)
red and green peppers, onions and lettuce.
My sandwich was ok,, the meat was very dry. I was so disappointed by this. The sauce and bread were amazing. But that did not make up for the meat.
Rainbowcrab however had a more traditional sandwich. She had the turkey cold cut, and chose the spinich avacado spread, with a variety of veggies. She LOVED her sandwich!
Both sandwiches were huge and worth the money. We both want to go back. Yes i still want to try the lamb.
So will have to let you know how it goes.
Oh and the service was very friendly and helpful.
We had a chance today to go to Five Guys at Park Royal
I had been to one in Milwaukee, and had enjoyed it. Of course it is more expensive here
than down there.
I had the cheese burger, rainbowcrab had a bacon cheese burger and we shared a fries. And yes 2 adults can share 1 small fries, they are huge!
They were good, I enjoyed the toppings, and loved the fries. I also really enjoyed the free peanuts.
Rainbowcrab liked her burger, said it had very good taste, but for some reason hers was cold.
not sure how that happened as they grill them right there?
I would go back, would like to try a hot dog next time.
Both Rainbow crab and I decided to try the Splitz grill while on Main Street. Our first time. The first thing that I really loved was the wide array of free toppings. Some very unique ones too. Rainbow crab is a bit of a purist, and she had a basic bacon and cheddar with fries. But she loved it, the char on the burger, but juicy with each bite.
I had the basic burger with fried onions, thier special sauce, salsa, mayo, onions and wow was it amazing.
Some other toppings include Hummous, Baba Ganough,(sp) cucumbers, sprouts, bbq sauce, hot sauce, hot peppers, and on and on the list goes.
The fries were great, and I can not wait to go back!
I really do not understand why the servers skirts need to be so short..
Beyond that, have been here a few times with people from work. I find it so over prices, with food that is not as good as Earls.
Last time I had the wings, they were pretty good, but wow they are expensive.
Will make other suggestions to my coworkers next time.
We decided to buy the Groupon for this place as we had been before and enjoyed the food.
When we arrived we were greated in a friendly manner, and seated. Right away our drink orders were taken and some cheese buns and fried banana arrived at the table.
We started at the buffet. It does not have the widest variety of things, but what they had was fresh and tasty.
We love the guacamole, so smooth. They also have some hot dishes there such as fish and rice.
Once we sat down the meat came. A wide variety of juicy meat, such as lamb, sirloin, pork roast, pork and beef ribs, chicken wrapped in bacon, pork sausages and even grilled pineapple
They slice the meat for you and you take it with tongs. The slices are not big, they are not meant to be. How I have a very large appitite, and I ate till I was full and happy.
We left very happy with the visit and having a groupon sure helped..
We will go back again for sure.
A date night tonight, and we chose The Poor Italian.
We made reservations, we like to dine early so we made reservations for 5:30pm. Althought quiet then, by 6pm, it was packed. So I suggest reservatons.
We had a lovely relaxed evening. The service was excellent. Very attentive.
We started with the Antipasto, wow it was so much food, with fresh smoked Salmon, olives, beans, eggplant etc, all you can wish for in an Antipasto.
I had the Rack of Lamb, which came with roasted veg. I must admit the veg left a bit to be desired, but the lamb was amazing, a very good serving, full of flavour. I just loved it. One of the best things I have eaten in while.
SL had one of the specials, basically spagetti and meatballs, but that name does not do it justice. The sauce had such depth, the meatballs, had a hint of heat that played off the sauce. She loved it!
We decided to have dessert too, I had the Dark Chocolate Terrine, which was a chocolate lovers delight.
SL had the Tiramisu, and it was so light and fluffy, she said it melted in your mouth.
This place was packed, so I do suggest a reservation, but I could see the wait staff working so hard to seat everyone, and judge when people will move on.
Although a bit pricey for my normal dining, we would go back in a heart beat.
We decided to go to the River Rock Buffet as we were going to a concert there.
I was a bit worried from the reviews here.
First I need to compliment the staff on excellent staff. The were there to meet every need, clearing our plates away and refilling our water and pop glasses right away.
We started with the salad bar, full of a variety of lettuce and salads such as corn salad, lentil salad, potato salad etc. Fresh dressings and buns. It was a Friday night so they also had crab legs, shrimp and oysters.
There was a sushi bar on friday night as well.
The hot food, did not have a huge selection, but the quality of most of the food was excellent.
I had the dim sum which was great, as was the roast and au jus. Rainbowcrab had the pasta and loved it.
There was a wide variety of desserts, although not as much chocolate as I like.
I acutally had more salad bar for dessert I liked it so much.
Although a bit on the high end of price, we really enjoyed it and would go back again.
As we drove down Hastings, we noticed this Mexican restaurant. We decided to try it out.
Being 2 pm on a Saturday is was not busy, but the staff greeted us and were friendly and helpful.
I had the 4 soft tacos. 2 chicken and 2 beef. The salsa/sauces they gave us were great. Home made and very tastey. We loved the green sauce, spicey but with such incredible flavour. I could not get enough of it.
Rainbowcrab had the beef burrito, and it was HUGE, and although there is a lot of rice she said it was full of beef and the rice had a wonderful flavour.
The prices were very good.
We are very excited about discovering this place and plan to go back a lot!
We went looking for something different today while in Ladner.
We found The Boot &Sombrero.
It was quiet, but it was about 2pm on a very Saturday afternoon.
First the wait staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful.
We shared the potato skins first which were very good, different from other types. We really enjoyed them. I had a pink toco martini with it and it was great.
I had the Chicken Fajita for my meal and thought it was pretty good. I was jealous of what my partner had. She has the shreded beef echillada which was very good. She had it with some corn bread, which she is still talking about.
I look forward to going back to try their ribs and other smoked goods.
I am glad we found this place.
Had a wonderful meal at Dave's Fish and Chips today. It was very busy, due to the holiday season, but the wait staff handled it with professional ease.
We both had the 2 piece cod and chips. We found the fish fresh and delicate with a nice crisp batter that was not greasy.
My fries were perfect, but my partners were a bit underdone for her liking.
I would come again for sure.
We finally had the chance to go to Anatolia's Gate. I can say we will be there many more times.
The food was outstanding. We shared the a small mixed plate, there was not a salad there I did not love.
We wanted to try so many things, but decided to try the Chicken and a Lamb Durum. They were both great, so filling.
The flavour was so good and fresh, the lavish bread was so good. It was so neat to wach him back the bread in the wood oven right in front of you.
The service was good and polite, the ambiance was simple but the food made up for that.
I look forward to go back many more times.
Food Rating- The wings at this restaurant were ok, so different choices. My friend's meal was very bland and tasted and looked liked it was microwaved from a box.
Service Rating - The young lady who served us was pleasant.
Value Rating - For the food we recieved it was not worth the value.
Ambiance rating - This restaurant does not look complete. They do not have a permanent sign, the furniture does not look right, the carpet is not clean. The paint job is not finished. It seemed all very odd.
I live down the road from this restaurant and I will never go again.
We finally made it to Wings on Kingsway. I have been to the one downtown and enjoyed it.
However I was sad to see if still looking a lot like Pub Med that use to be there.
The flavour of the wings were good, but why oh why do they batter the wings?? Just something that does not need to be done!
My partner had the stir fry with chicken, she said she would have it again, but the rice was swimming in sauce.
Service was very slow. Considering it was near empty.
I also contacted the manager about the smoking on the enclosed patio. I thought that not ok any more. This part ruined my visit.
My friend suggested we meet here for dinner. I read some reviews and was a bit worried about the service. I must say that part of the dining event was great. The owner was friendly, the server was prompt and friendly as well.
My friend and I both complained about how salty the food was.
I am also so confused as to why mexican places here cover everything is sauce. In Mexico when I lived there, food was simple, sauce or salsa was served on the side.
I had a salty gloppy mess last night. I could not tell one thing from another.
After having a newspaper review on our fridge for so long for The Diner we finally went. I am a brit by heritage.
Let me start by saying that the man who served us was a true gentleman. So kind and friendly.
However my partners diet coke arrived with lipstick stains on the glass. Then our buns came and both had mold on them.
The fish and chips arrived, they were alright, but nothing special, as this place has been running for 50 years and you think this would be really good.
I was not sure if I was going to write a review as the older gentlemen there were so wonderful I did not want to hurt business. But If I do maybe things will change for the better.
After living in Toronto for 10 years, I was so eager to try a Jewish Deli. My friend loved her Corn beef. I enjoyed my matza ball soup, but the rare roast beef on rye was so dry I would not swollow it nor could I finish it. I was disappointed. However I will go back to try some other things on the menu.
Shota Sushi and Grill was one of our favourite all you can eat Japanese. It wasn't anything fancy, but we liked it.
When we went at the beginning of Nov 2007, we saw a sign "closed for renevations." So we went back this week. Dec 2008. What we knew as Shota is now called I Love Sushi. They must be new owners, cause every thing had changed. We hated it.
I can not think of one good thing we liked. I am sad and shall morn the lost of our special place.
And am now on the hunt for a new place... as we will never return to I love Sushi, as we hate their sushi!
