The GF and I decided to go here for dinner because other reviewers talked so highly about the honey garlic boneless pork.
We arrived around 8PM and there were 4 other customers at the restaurant. We ordered the honey garlic boneless pork and beef & tomato fried rice. Literally, 5 minutes later the food comes out. Five minutes! Keep in mind this is not a fast food restaurant. We were very shocked at how fast it came out. Not sure if it was because the cooks had no other orders so they focused on ours or maybe it was previously made.
The pork had a very dull presentation. Looked bland and tasteless. Also would prefer more beef on the fried rice. Upon tasting the food, we knew something wasn't quite right. The pork was a disappointment as it was nothing like what the reviewers had said. Granted it was last reviewed a year ago, maybe the quality went down. It has a weird overcooked, burnt, re-heated kind of taste. As for the rice, it was hard and lacked sufficient amounts of beef. The rice was definitely old. The dishes were not steaming, hot like it normally would if it was cooked fresh.
Service was outstanding and they were very nice. It's a shame the food was such a disappointment. We won't be going back.
This has got to be the best Japanese restaurant ever! We usually order the spicy salmon sashimi don and it's orgasmic. It is VERY spicy so if you can't handle it, you can request them to make it less spicy. The sushi boat is very good however, the portions is a bit less when it comes to the price. They have many special/exotic sushi rolls that you just have to try. I tried to fried california roll and it was delicious. The cream cheese roll was very good too.
The GF and I always go to Aoyoma when we're in Richmond. They have lots of selections and their daily specials are pretty good. They have a bell (like those in Korean restaurants) to call the server to you. Food arrives promptly and is very good. Of all the dishes we ordered, all of them have came out nicely. They do offer "exotic" coffee but don't bother. If you're used to Tim Hortons or Starbucks, don't bother with the coffee. It's just horrible.
Recommend this restaurant. Will be coming back.
I admit it is a nice place to eat in. We ordered a lot of dishes which totalled $60 for 3 people. The portions were quite small and we were not full (or even close) when we were done. It's a good place to chill with a bunch of friends while munching on a bit of snack though. I saw a couple that actually went to the restaurant next to Guu because they were not full at all. The Guu in downtown was amazing, which makes me wonder why this place was so disappointing. Service was excellent and the ambience was very nice.
The food we got came promptly however the meal I had could have been better. It lacked a bit of flavour and just felt really homemade. The gf ordered curry and she said it was fine. Service was okay but the value wasn't that great. The dishes felt a bit overpriced for what they offered.
Came here with my gf and 2 other friends. We arrived at about 7PM and the place was pretty dead aside from a group of 4 at another table. The food took a bit longer than expected to arrive. You can tell it was going to bad just by the way it looked. The prawns had a very fishy smell to it and tasted very bad. The sushi was tiny and fell apart upon touching them. Overall the food was inedible. Will not come back again.
The gf and I decided to eat Korean tonight and decided on Hong Mi because it's nearby. The food was incredible. The meat was marinated so well it melted in my mouth. Our server was extremely nice and even told us we get one free sides refill (don't quote us YMMV). Food arrived quick and the server helped set everything down for us. We got the Smile combo which came with chicken, pork and beef bbq. It is quite pricey but you really get what you pay for. I saw a couple sit down only to leave a few minutes later probably because of the price. We will be coming back soon.
I brought the GF here on Valentines Day for dinner. Food arrived after 10 minutes of wait but the food was delicious! Chicken was juicy and the seafood was very fresh. The place isn't too bad but a bit too cramp. It's located in a very romantic area. Service was good, food was very delicious and the price was solid. We'll be coming back for more.
I've given Aji Taro not one, but FOUR chances. Every time I go here, I always leave with a bad experience.I will NEVER go back again!
I went there for dinner today at opening (5PM) with two of my friends. We sat there at our table with only one waitress on the floor. When we were about to order, the waitress was busy talking to the counter cashier. A few minutes later, we got our order sheet. We had a vegetarian among us so she proceeded to order vegetarian friendly sushi. She requested that the vegetarian food be put on a separate plate, away from our non-vegetarian food that we ordered. A few minutes later the manager informs us that THEY USE THE SAME KNIFE AND CUTTING BOARD to prepare veggie and meat food. For those who haven't taken food safe, that's food cross contamination. People can seriously get sick from this. Of course, my friend opted out from eating anything there, while the rest of us proceeded to eat what we ordered.
Food - I ordered a chicken karaage (chicken wing) and it was bright pink inside. (This isn't the first time I've seen pink chicken at Aji Taro). The various sashimi we ordered was NOT fresh at all. It had a weird expired taste to them. The beef teriyaki was burnt beyond recognition and ebi sunomono was just half-*ssed. The sushi was the worst part. The rice was literally falling apart and none of the sushi pieces look like sushi at all! Overall the food quality was very poor.
Service - It was mediocre. Waitress kept on gawking (I mean literally STARING) at our table from afar. It made me feel really uncomfortable.
Value - Definitely not worth the value. The food was so bad that we just ate what we ordered and just left.
Ambiance - Just your typical Japanese restaurant.
