The chicken sandwich was terrible dry and had to add the beans and coleslaw to it to be worth eating. My friend enjoyed the ribs plate. This seems to be a hit or miss type spot in North Van compared to the solid tasty MBBH on Commercial.
The service was pleasant even though we had to ask them to make coffee twice.
If my friends want to come I will join them as it is a nice hang out spot with great tv for sports, but will just have a beer and cornbread and skip the BBQ.
While the was in a Fairmont hotel standard, the food and decor was less than a Holiday Inn.
Where is management??? Where is quality assurance??? Has the General Manager of the old grand dame Hotel Vancouver (Griffin's) tasted his own hotel food and willing to accept the very bland dried eggs to his guests??
Very boring, less than below average food. The fruit had rine on it, the cheese was dried. No omlette station but had already made (who knows for how long it was sitting there) omlettes to pick up with nothing in it---what was the point?? Not worth the parking, the effort or even a discounted price- just don't bother.
I doubt having read over the previous reviews of the breakfast brunch buffet thing will change.
Whistler in Oct is a great time to visit and to try Araxi's because of the slow season--you get fantastic attention and service from the moment you step in. We were never rushed and enjoyed a relaxing time while slowing eating our best meals of the year.
My buddy enjoyed his beet salad and lamb chops and gave it a 4.5 (food-rating) stars. I couldn't believe how perfect the venison was prepared and presented. The waiter was able to pick out just the right wine for our taste and suggested the petit fours for dessert. All the plates were just the right portion. Our bill came to $211.00 (pre-tip) and worth every savoury loonie.
This is our 4th visit and never lets us down for an amazing experience.
An outstanding take-out option for sushi as the restauarant is very small and crowded during lunch, try for dinner to eat in.
Warning** incredible sushi** best on Davie St. with LARGE portions- wow!
If you want take-out you should call in advanced or you could wait taking up your precious lunch time.
My lunch mate and I were walking down Lonsdale and choose this restaurant because of it's nice looking patio (worth 2 stars) and (guessing fake) best community restaurant stickers on the door. Greeted warmly with the waitress with a glass of water with lemon but she didnt have a clue after that.
Ordered a Monte Cristo and my mate ordered a ham sandwich with coffee, tea, and soup total was 30.00 pre tip. The cook made both of the meals with a huge hamburger bun, with a 1 thin slice of ham where you loose the taste of the sandwich as it was overun with taste of bread.
This is not worth returning for even a cup of coffee ---YUCK!
Looking for a place to have lunch within an hour, Stepho's can do it. No waiting for a table, service, or your meal.
The small souvlaki had rice over 3/4 of the plate along with a greek salad, roasted savory potatoes, pita bread and 1 skewer of lamb-which was all to perfection.
So much food left over, easy to take the rest home for another meal.
Delish!
The bento boxes, tempura and sushi are solid but pricey for the overall Vancouver area. Staff are nice but often so busy they are slow in service (could use more front staffing).
The restaurant is popular with locals and families with dinner being very noisy.
The restauarant setting is nice but with the noise and slowness in service we are starting to look for something better and make a lower score in the ambiance rating.
We will stick with take-out and use Gen sushi as a 2nd choice.
We found this small "mom and pop" type restaurant beside the Park and Tilford movie theatre for a quick pre movie sushi fix. The service was friendly, patient and fast as we had a nice selection of mostly sushi items to choose from. The sushi was outstanding and fresh so good we came back a week later and still was quite happy with the great food and service during a busy lunch crowd.
They have a couple of outside tables in front and have take out service.
THUMBS UP OR CHOPSTICKS UP on this quiet little gem.
Walked in for early seating of Dim sum, the carts came very quickly and the first pot was served. The cart servers kept trying to push the cold spring rolls or other popular north american dim sum items. In order to get the full service you need to ask what else is in their carts or they may offer it to someone else and if you want something like cuttlefish you need to ask.
We had to ask several times for tea and finally asked a manager to refill our tea.
The food was solid and we will go back, tricky service and all.
Go early so you can get parking.
The 4 of us sat out on the patio for a couple of hours enjoying the view and the food. The salmon with a blueberry sauce was just right and so tasty. My friends enjoyed their appy's, salads, wiine, fish and desserts. Our young server was eager to please and quick with our requests.
We only come in the summer but always seem to have a nice time, but maybe it's just our luck looking over the previous reviews.
It's not just me but the staff at our workplace will often either dine in or order take out. All the choices of beef, chicken, lamb were well reviewed...Watch out for the tzatziki it's strong but good.
It's a bit more cozy and relaxed than the greek place down the street.
Good deal for lunch for the portions you are given.
We come around dinner time and find a mostly over 30's group having a meal and chatting. Pizza is always good as are the wings. The prices keep climbing up but at least the food has not let us down. They have a patio out front for sunny days but can be noisy as it is beside a busy road.
A relaxing pace with the locals or to go after a day of kayaking or skiing.
The service is busy and friendly.
When looking for homemade soup and on a cold friday, we love to come here to have their award-winning (at least it should be) clam chowder. WOW is it ever good. Fills your tum and lets you unwind for a bit after work.
Service is very inviting as soon as you walk in and find a seat by the fireplace or upstairs in the patio.
It's a pub, with many tv's to watch your fav sports. No movie stars just the locals, even my vet comes here.
In their first years of operation it WAS outstanding, now it simply is been the last several visits--disappointing.
Our lamb meals were undercooked, but the Tzatziki was excellent too bad the bread was lame to eat it with.
For a being a greek restaurant, it closes too early at 9pm and starts to clean up and become noisy with the cutlery at 8pm which can be a bit much when trying to have a conversation.
Folks just keep looking because this spot is a let down.
When we have out of town visitors we take them down to the cove and let them experince the true local hangout. Coffee strong and just right and of course the doughnuts are so unique , well it's the only dougnuts we know to be so darn good. Inside is very tight and even on rainy days you can still be outside reading the paper and watch the neighbourhood walk by.
The cafe even leaves out a bowl of water for your dog.
