Food: didn't have the AYCE. The salmon sashimi quality seemed much better than what you get from the AYCE menu. The chopped scallop roll didn't have any flavor. The spicy salmon roll was disappointing in that all it was was a regular salmon roll with some hot sauce (like Frank's Red Hot) put on top.
Service: nothing special, nothing bad.
Value: of course not as good value compared to eating AYCE, but portions and quality were reasonable for the price.
Ambiance: clean, tables not too crowded together.
Food: Had a salad roll: the sauce that it came with was a bit too sweet for me. Also had some of the lemongrass chicken soup, which was way too salty, couldn't handle more than 2 spoonfuls.
Service: Waited a while for waitress to bring us menu and water. Food came out a bit on the slow side.
Value: The salad roll portion was bigger than expected, judging by the price. Other things on the menu were reasonable priced.
Ambiance: Kind of cheesy with the neon lights out front. Tabletops a little sticky. W/C was clean though.
Food: XLB skin was right thickness (ok, maybe a little on the thick side), but soup was not too oily, filling not too fatty. Also had sesame pastry with pork stuffing. This is only the 2nd restaurant that I've been able to find these, so that's a bonus (since the other restaurant is now closed!). Port stuffing oily but pastry was flaky and not too oily. Wish the stuffing had more veggies though. The curry beef vermicelli soup and veggie noodle soup were standard. The curry beef vermicelli soup was surprisingly not too salty, and there was no layer of oil on top which you usually see in Szechuan restaurants (they all seem to cook with way too much oil!).
Service: some servers were ok, others were not too friendly. Food came out fast enough. Teapot was not refilled though.
Value: comparable to other similar restaurants.
Ambiance: everything looked relatively clean and well kept.
Food: my friends seemed to enjoy their hot pot and shaved iced dessert. my hot grass jelly was good too.
Service: food and drinks came quickly. finished items were cleared promptly. no complaints.
Value: comparable to other places offering this type of food, although the portion of toppings that came with my hot grass jelly were very tiny in my opinion (just a few cubes of taro and 1 tablespoon of mung beans)
Ambiance: being above street level with giant windows gives a cool view. tables are set far apart from each other so you actually don't have to listen to nearby tables' conversations.
Food: good variety of Chinese dessert soups, fruity drinks/slushies, milk tea, and other dessert items (ex. creme brulee, flan, tapioca pudding etc) to choose from. everything tasted ok.
Service: prompt, polite
Value: comparable to other bubbletea and dessert places around
Ambiance: tabletops looked dirty, felt sticky, corners splintered. couch on the side looked worn out with tears.
Food: Soup noodle combo, ordered spicy soup base but soup not spicy at all (maybe got the order wrong?), noodles were mushy. Thai curry pork chop with rice, pork chop was actually cut up pieces of very mushy meat, could not tell that it was pork at all. Also had their "famous" BBQ pork ribs with fries. The spicy BBQ sauce was actually quite good, though there wasn't a lot of meat on the ribs.
Service: No tea given. When asked for tea, got iced water instead. Utensils also not given. Got our orders wrong. Server was impatient and bordering on rude when taking our orders.
Value: Portions tiny. At the same price, most other HK style cafe/restaurants would have at least included drink as well.
Ambiance: Looks newly renovated, spacious, clean. Nice bar.
Food: chipotle chicken pizza had good amount of toppings, not greasy. Only thing was it wasn't as spicy as I would have liked but the franks red hot dip took care of that! Garlic breadsticks were ordinary.
Service: fast, polite
value: pretty good for the quality and quantity, love the complimentary dips!
Ambiance: place looks new and clean, can watch them make your pizza.
Food: All the dishes tasted good, still a bit on the greasy side but not that bad for a Chinese restaurant. Also didn't get MSG symptoms afterwards, which is saying a lot for a Chinese restaurant.
Service: Food came out fast. Although more frequent tea refills would have been nice.
Value: 8 people ate well for $10, tax and tips included. And this dinner included soup and dessert.
Ambiance: Parking is very limited. Restaurant itself is well kept. WC is clean. Lots of people waiting around for tables while you eat so that gets a bit crowded and uncomfortable.
Food: tried hawaiian and one with pepperoni, peppers, mushrooms. Both were bland and greasy.
Service: did take out, standard pizza place service.
Value: comparable to other pizza places around.
Ambiance: can't say much, it's a take out pizza place.
Wouldn't try again b/c didn't taste that good, not especially cheap. And I can see the oil on the slice so I'm skeptical about that low fat, healthy claim written all over the box.
Food: lots of dim sum selection, found dishes not usually found at other dim sum places. All tasty, not too greasy. Didn't get MSG symptoms afterwards.
Service: better than the average dim sum place in Richmond. Tea refilled promptly. Food came out in quick enough after ordering, though could still be faster.
Value: a bit more expensive than others around but quality, service, ambiance also a bit better.
Ambiance: parking was easy to find, didn't have to wait in a long line for a table (went on a Sunday close to noon). Restaurant itself was very spacious, utensils new and clean, as was the w/c.
Food: lot of batter on fish, fries were soggy, but none the less satisfied a fish and chips craving.
Service: order and pick up, can't really go wrong. Cashier and staff were all polite and smiling. Didn't wait too long, about 20 min on sat afternoon.
Value: kinda pricey, almost $10 for just 1.5 pieces of fish and a handful of chips.
ambiance: can't really beat a hot sunny afternoon down at steveston!
Food: everyone says this is authentic, and yes, all the servers and chefs seem to be Japanese, but from what we ate, I couldn't tell any difference from the other cheaper "not authentic" restaurants around. We had spicy salmon roll, tobiko salad, sashimi, and ramen. Also had a wine jelly for desset, which was very good and refreshing.
Service: great once we got service but waited a long time to get our teas refilled.
Value: a bit more expensive than the avg Richmond sushi places
ambiance: booths good for privacy, seemed clean.
Food: had the lunch special: butter chicken, palak paneer, black beans, naan, salad, raita and rice. All were very tasty, not oily or greasy. Only complaint would be that the chicken was a bit on the dry side.
Service: server was patient in explaining menu and making recommendations, came to check on us midway through the meal. Although sometimes we had to wait and try to get his attention to get things (ex. set of utensils).
Value: Can't complain about the lunch special. Great deal for having a variety of food. Portion reasonable for price.
Ambiance: Everything looked new and clean. Restaurant has Indian music playing in the background. Washrooms clean but very tiny.
Food: had poached eggs, toast, pan fries. Poached eggs done perfectly. Pan fries were cubes of potatoes, not greasy which was good. Toast and jam were ordinary. Friends had their porridge (looked really good, big portion too), omlette, and eggs benny (were reported to be delicious as well). Liked how all the egg dishes also came with a piece of orange and grapefruit, very refreshing.
Service: coffee always filled, waitress made a mistake on my order, realized when she brought it to the table and had it corrected right away. Seems like a lot of regulars come here because saw one of the employees (owner?) strike up conversations and gave out hugs to customers, which was nice (like going-to-a-place-where-everybody-knows-your-name kind of nice).
Value: for the quality and quantity of food and for the service, this place is great value!
Ambiance: modern looking, clean, basic colours and lines.
Wish I lived close enough to be able to come here again and avoid the lineup.
Food: Had Tan Tan Noodles, which tastes like they got some peanut butter, thinned it out with some water, and then put it on top of some noodles as a sauce. Not exactly tasty. Also had Red Bean Paste Steamed Buns, could taste that they were frozen before (i.e. not fresh) as bun was hard and chewy and middle was still a bit cold. Onion pancake was a so greasy that there was actually a pool of oil collecting in the middle of the pancake visible as the dish was put on our table. Pancake texture was also off, chewy like rubber.
Service: none, not even when you walk in: no one asks you if you want a table and for how many. Bad even for a Chinese restaurant of this kind.
Value: prices are ok but not really worth it for the quality or the portions.
Ambiance: maybe the best thing about this restaurant but that's not saying much. Place is cramped. Diners in small groups frequently have to share one big table with other small group diners.
Not returning and not recommended.
Food: Viet subs are good. Pho is ok, sometimes a bit too much MSG. Viet stemaed rice crepes, the crepes were a bit too thick, texture too chewy. "Grilled beef wrapped with special leaf" was tastless and greasy. Viet coffee didn't taste good at all, didn't have the aroma or the strong kick that usual Viet coffee should have. And I think something was wrong with the filter because it took forever for the coffee to finish dripping through.
Service: Servers seem to have on and off days. Sometimes they'll be polite and quick, making suggestions for what's good to order. Other times they'd be ignoring us, rushing us when we're ordering, slamming things down on the table.
Value: Portions use to be bigger, food use to taste better, so compared to before it's not as good value wise. But it's still affordable and priced competitively for Pho in Richmond.
Ambiance: Clean, table spacing adequate.
Food: it's hot pot style, so I guess if something isn't cooked right, you can't blame anyone but yourself :p That being said, the food that's provided was all very nicely prepared: meat (beef and pork) thinly sliced, veggies (good variety of veggies avaliable) all clean and fresh.
Service: outstanding for AYCE. Server came by to explain/educate us on the Sukiyaki experience. Drinks were constantly refilled. Dishes cleared promptly. Food came quickly. Was very impressed by how they politely reminded us about the 2 hrs limit at 1.5 hr and asked for our final order, then at 2 hrs kindly and patiently reminded us again and explained to us that there are people waiting (huge lineup out the door actually). It was done it a way that was not rude/didn't feel like we were being kicked out.
Value: decent for if you're only going with the simplest option. If you change soup bases or order drinks, it gets to be a bit pricy.
Ambiance: Clean and sleek. My only complaint is that there is still a lot of steam/smoke from the hot pots: maybe need better ventilation?
Food: had the yam+asparagus roll, ingredients tasted fresh. roll has 50% brown rice. seaweed was easy to bite into (not chewy). liked that it was very convenient to eat on the go. sushi is rolled into a cylinder shape, so you eat it like a wrap, and they give you a tiny soy sauce dispenser for seasoning.
Service: lady at counter was very polite and friendly, greeted us when we came in, thanked us, smiled the whole time.
Value: a bit pricey for the portion, 1 roll is about the same as 2/3 of a normal sushi roll.
Ambiance: not much to say, it's a tiny shop, you order from the counter where the rolls are all nicely lined up for you to pick from.
Probably wouldn't return b/c of the pricing and the fact that there wasn't anything that special about the sushi itself that I can't get somewhere else.
Food: Had 2 eggs (poached) breakfast with hashbrown and english muffin. Hashbrowns were a bit greasy. Eggs were done just right. Coffee was also good.
Service: Server made sure our coffee mugs were always filled. Very accomadating: we asked for the music to be turned down b/c it was too loud, we couldn't hear each other talk, and it was done immediately.
Value: maybe a bit overpriced for the quality of food you get. portions are ok though.
Ambiance: stand Denny's decor.
Food: Had a Greek Salad, a bit too oily for my liking. Pita bread tasted good. Friend had the salmon which was reported to be good. Ordered a strawberry slush type drink (forgot the name) but was very watery with bits of chunky ice floating around (i.e. consistency not right), did not taste like strawberry.
Service: Server very attentive without being overly intrusive.
Value: Overpriced.
Ambiance: newly renovated as of last year.
