Gotta love oysters!
Submitted Monday, April 12, 2010 - 6:01pm [Dine in]

Went here recently totally last minute and didn't know what to expect. My lady and I just had oysters for the first time acouple weeks back so we were pretty excited to have some more. We met up with a group of others and started off with a bottle of wine and ordered a dozen to start. It took about 15 minutes to get them but we were enjoying our company so didn't really notice. When we finished the first round we ordered another 2 dozen and some garlic prawns. This time it took just over 20 minutes to receive them but after 45 minutes the prawns were still MIA. We finished off the oysters and when I finally got the servers attention I asked about the prawns. He went in the back and came back about 5 minutes later and said they were just on their way out. ( This is now an hour later which means they had forgot and were rushing them out ) Well we did get them and they were great just don't know if I would wait that long again for them ;) Anyway we are going back for sure because lets face it, your in the middle of Yaletown and getting a big variety of oysters for a $1.50. How can you go wrong. Just don't expect good or prompt service.

Enjoyed most of the evening
Submitted Monday, April 12, 2010 - 5:52pm [Dine in]

We to Coast acouple weekends ago for the first time. We had an 8pm reso and got seated upstairs in the restaurant. The first impression was good but we got seated right at the top of the stairs which made for a lot of traffic going past us throughout the evening. Our server came by promptly and took our drink order. When she returned with our 2 glasses of sparkling we ordered our food. We started with the Ahi Tuna which was really delicious but there is warning that must come with it. This has raw jalapeno's with it, so if your drinking wine make sure you have something that can compete with it and not just get destroyed by it. We then took oysters ( our first time ) which were outstanding. Loved their cocktail sauce. Once we were finished we took a bottle of wine and moved on to our mains. My lady took the Mahi Mahi, which was perfectly cooked and came with a mixture of potatoes and veg. I on the other hand wanted to do surf and turf and went with a 7 oz filet medium rare with 3 prawns. Now when I ordered I was asked by our server what I wanted on the side. I asked what the veg was and was told brussel sprouts. Now I am 30 and thought I had tried these little devil cabbages enough to make up my mind and decide that we just do not get along ( and I will try almost anything ). The server insisted that everyone even if they hated these little things loved them. I told her again I wouldn't but again insisted I take them. Well guess what? The food came and after having the first bite of them, found out I still hate them. At least I had my garlic mash to get rid of the nasty taste of them. I told the server she was wrong and so she brought me the same side my girl had which was potatoes and veg. ( starch and more starch with a little veg? ) I was very disapointed but I still had my steak and prawns right? Well they were terrible as well. I have never had either with no seasoning of any kind. Im serious, not even salt or pepper. So this was a big let down. Once we finished we finished with 2 glasses of port and then moved down to the lounge for some more oysters and a martini.Love the room ( the music was a touch loud but what you going to do ). We will try the place again, just make sure to skip the steak and prawns.

Great Patio!
Submitted Monday, September 22, 2008 - 9:51pm [Dine in]

I have now been to this Joey's twice and what a great patio they have set up. They really have out done themselves with the set up. Love the fountain wall. The food is hit or miss ( loved the ahi tuna taco's and their chicken iceberg lettuce wraps but found their slidders to be very dry and boring ), the service is not bad and the food is a little pricey but the room makes up for all of it. If your looking for a place to chill out with friends for drinks or just want a quick bite to eat on a comfy patio this is a great place for it.

Just a great burger
Submitted Sunday, January 6, 2008 - 6:31pm [Dine in]

This is a small little place that always seems to have people in it. You would think that from some of the past reviews it was a 5 star restaurant they were writing about. Take this place for what it is. A burger joint with great juicy burgers and awesome fat fries. You can be in and out very quickly and filled up just right. Try it for yourself if your in the area and just want something quick and good. Then head to the gym for an extra session.

Wow. Nothing else you can really say except wow. The best pizza. I have not had a bad one. From the most basic to the most complex. Organic veggies, hand made crust. I would go almost anywhere just to pick it up. I am very happy I live somewhat close. Will be eating here for a very long time. To bad you can't sit down there but hey my couch is great to. Thanks guys keep up the great work.

Pizza the way it should be
Submitted Sunday, January 6, 2008 - 6:20pm [Dine in]

Lombaro's. What can you say except man do they make great pizza the way it should be made. Thin crispy crust, great fresh ingredients that are full of flavour. Usually split a large salad ( try the one with dill in it, don't remember the name ), plate of pasta, and a pizza between a group of us. Prices rock. Granted it is in a little shopping center but hey I am not looking for fine dining when it comes to this place. I just want great food and they serve it up to me everytime. Anyone who thinks their pizza is bad can call domino's. See you guys again soon!

This little quirky place is great for breakfast at anytime of the day. The inside makes me laugh with their crazy design. Trust me it's worth a look. The service is nothing to write home about but hey it's a diner. The hashbrowns rock and I love their home made hot sauce. Great prices and gotta love a place that doesn't make everything out of a packet.

Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The11151 No. 5 Road, Richmond
Worst Service in the history!
Submitted Sunday, January 6, 2008 - 6:08pm [Dine in]

What a waste this place is. I have just had the worst experiences going to the Keg and not just this location. We went to the richmond location recently because we were in the area and were craving steak. There were 3 of us in our party although the 3rd showed up seperatly. When we walked in we were asked how many and said 3. We were taken to a table and one of the setting was taken away. Our waiter took his time getting to us and we ordered a round of drinks while we waited. Our friend came and we ordered drinks. Our drinks came and the waiter also brought 4 glasses of water. He said he would be back and that was the last we saw of him for 45 minutes. I went outside to make a call and when I came back in saw our waiter with his leg up on a chair talking to some guy at another table. Our drinks became empty and eventually we flagged down another waiter to take our order. When our waiter came by he told us " oh I am sorry I thought you were waiting for a fourth. " Total lack of communication with the front of house and it didn't seem like they cared anyway. When our food did come 40 minutes after we ordered it, it came plate by plate over a 15 minute period. I recieved my food first I waited till the other two got their main courses and began to eat which by now was cold. The waiter didn't come ask us how it was or even if we wanted another drink, which we did. He showed up at the end without taking the plates away to hand us the bill. I worked in the industry and almost always tip big. Tips however are not free and you do have to work for them. Well I hope he enjoyed his 9 cent tip on $150 and still i thought it was to much. Mabey they should bring people in to work there who arn't just looking for a pay cheque and could careless about the people they serve. This isn't my first bad experience with the Keg but it will be my last. I will never be going there again and I will make sure my friends don't either.

Refreshing to have a gem like this.

Where I love to go for sushi.
Submitted Sunday, January 6, 2008 - 4:58pm [Dine in]

We found seto about a year ago and have been so impressed that we find ourselves there acouple times a month. Living in vancouver there are a lot of sushi places. Most of them crap. Massed produced, low quality food. Seto makes everything for you fresh. It is also japanese owned and operated which for me is the best. There is a pride behind what they do and it shows in the food. Whether we are sitting at a table or at the sushi bar the service is always good and seem to leave with full stomachs and smiles on our faces. Skip the all you can eat garbage and go have some great well made sushi etc.

Great place for food
Submitted Sunday, January 6, 2008 - 4:52pm [Dine in]

I read some of the reviews below and what can I say except must have been an off night. I eat regularly at Brix and can say I have always had a good food experience. On my last visit I started with a salad with goat cheese and proccuto ( or however it is spelled ). It was fresh, crisp and had great taste. No rubbery meat. I then had the steak. Wow. Cooked medium-rare to absolute perfection. It had a chipotle hollandais on the top with risotto and veggies on the side. This steak beat any I have had at the Keg or Gotham. I usually always try something new when I go there but the steak will always be in my mind. You also owe it to yourself to sit outside in their courtyard. Simply a perfect setting for good eats and company. I have really been enjoying their wine selection. Their list is deep and there is always something great in there to join you on your food adventure.

Great Japanese Pub Food!
Submitted Thursday, November 8, 2007 - 3:41pm [Dine in]

This place has turned me into a regular. My g/f and I have been going to Guu every 2 weeks for about 3 months now and enjoying it more and more. We usually bring different friends with us each time and are slowly turning them all into a Guu army. The atmosphere is that of a Japanese pub. Loud in an entertaining way, enjoyable, great food, friendly service and oh my the drinks! I highly recommend the Aloe Vera and shochu it's to die for. This place reminds me of Japan and if you're stuck thinking that japanese food is only sushi, chicken teriyaki, miso soup and rice then try being a little adventurous and try out this izakaya. The place is small and always busy but it's a great thing because if it were any bigger it would lose its great feel and as for lining up, it's totally worth the wait. So if you're in the mood for peace and quiet with a boring ambiance do not visit Guu, everyone who wants to play with their adventurous side, we will probably see you there!
