Pantry Restaurant, The319 North Road, Coquitlam
Food was great. Can't say the same for the service
Submitted Sunday, June 1, 2014 - 10:44am [Dine in]

The wife and I decided on the Pantry because of the food and past good experiences. We're sorry to say our lunch was mediocre at best. The restaurant was smaller than its previous location up the block. It took less than 30 seconds to be seated, but then again there were not that many people in the restaurant either.

At first glance of the lunch menu, we were surprised by the lack of selections available. After getting our drinks and my wife deciding on the chicken quesadillas, she was told that the restaurant had no more wraps. Another 5 minutes went by before the waitress came back to take her new order. After the waitress gave us our food, that was the last time we saw of her. The food was good and my wife's salad was very flavourful. At no point were we asked if we wanted our drinks refilled even though our glasses were emptied and the only conversation that occurred with the 2nd waitress was if we done with our emptied plates and here's the bill. Atleast at other places, we would be asked if we liked a dessert or two. Seemed like we were not welcomed at this Pantry.

By the end of our meals, $32.85 with 1 iced tea seemed expensive. It wouldn't be so bad if the service was excellent. Such a waste of time and money for a mediocre lunch. Should have gone to other nearby establishments such as Wing's, Ricky's or Boston Pizza when were had the hankering for Western style food. The other places would be a little more expensive compared to The Pantry but it's not all about the cost. Most times it's about the experience and this is one we would like to FORGET.

Keg Steakhouse & Bar, The4510 Still Creek Avenue, Burnaby
Still a great steakhouse

Went in to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday at around 8pm. we immediately got our table and our waiter, Ted, was friendly and attentive. After the initial intro, we got our drinks and told Ted we were here to celebrate a birthday. We all ordered the classic dinners which came with salads and the main course. The salads came fast but the kitchen took too long to get our food ready (there were only 4 of us and the dining area had a few emptied tables)

The salads were seasoned and sauced just right. The steaks Steaks were cooked to perfection with enough juice and seasoning but the vegis were bland and undercooked and the zucchinis were bitter. The baked potatoes were great but the size seemed to have shrunk.

After our meals were finished Ted came back with a free piece of mocha ice cream cake for my mother-in-law. Awesome way to end the night for a special occassion.

If the food came out faster (considering it wasn't too busy for a Sunday night) and the vegis were cooked and seasoned more, then I would have given this Keg a better rating. Again our server was outstanding and his service made the food more bearable.

Pink Pearl1132 East Hastings Street, Vancouver
Wait another 3 months
Submitted Monday, May 21, 2012 - 1:43pm [Dine in]

When dim sum at 1130. Not overly crowded and people were still waiting at the door to be shown to their tables. Felt as if the restaurant was short staff. My family was situated near the washroom so it was away from the main dining area.

Pluses
- Food was awesome. Fresh and very tasty.
- Dining area and washrooms were updated but men's washroom had no change table
- Waiters (whenever we can flag one down) were friendly

Minuses
- Slow service (including dim sum food carts) due to location of table and we were not the only patrons hunting for food since most carts went to the main dining area
- Not enough high chairs available (just imagine holding a 1 year for over an hour while trying to feed yourself and the child). Thank goodness for family.
- Shortage of staff in every department (kitchen, servers, front greeting staff, waiters, etc...). Took 15 minutes to get the bill. Could have easily walked out without paying and no one would have noticed. A lot of customers were waiting for a table but a lot of tables were cleaned and ready to go but emptied.

Since Pink Pearls recently opened after a long hiatus, wait awhile before trying it out. I'm going to let them work out their problems before I will try again. And hopefully the restaurant will have more high chairs.

Sfinaki Taverna4061 Hastings St, Burnaby
Great place if you can afford it.
Submitted Sunday, April 15, 2012 - 6:18pm [Take-out]

I haven't ordered from Sfinaki's for about a year but not for any negative reasons though. My wife had a Greek food moment and wanted her lamb dinner and Sfinaki makes a hell of a lamb dinner. The food and service haven't changed but the price sure made me think twice about going greek here. I know prices have gone up and I won't fault Sfinaki for its price changes but damned I be when someone charges for tzatziki sauce after spending more than $50.00 for 3 dinners. I like tzatziki sauce to go with my bread. It's like ordering salad and told that any kind of dressing will be extra. Sometimes the smallest steps can have a big impact on the overall experience. This latest experience will at least push me to look for other Greek restaurants and the Heights have no shortage of them. BTW, it was a take out order and not dine in.

Great food but you'll come out hungry
Submitted Tuesday, June 15, 2010 - 11:02pm [Dine in]

Went here for mother's day dinner. A party of 6 plus a toddler. At most restaurants we go to, there would always be leftovers and we would come out full. Not this time!!

The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and talkative. The quality of the food was good but not great. We'd ordered a Dinner for 6 combo. 1 dish came out bland while another was overcooked to a point that some vegetables tasted burnt. As for the portions, the expensive dishes such as Shark-fin soup were pre-portioned for you with no chance for a second helping. At the end, the $228 including tax and tips made me wish I'd brought more money to buy dessert.

Can't fin better service than this

Second time my wife and I have been here. Second time we were impressed by the service and quality of the food. Every time we spoked to the waiter and/or waitress, we were received with smiles and politeness. Normally, you don't really see this service combo unless you go to a high end restaurant where either your wallet comes out empty or your stomach.
The restaurant itself is a little outdated but other than this, we can't really complain. The peking duck was excellent and generously portioned.

Can't get the order right
Submitted Tuesday, June 15, 2010 - 10:41pm [Dine in]

Went in on a not busy Tuesday night. Ordered Dinner for 2. Waiter repeated Small for 2 and I'd repeated Dinner for 2. Again Small for 2 said the waiter (maybe they call it differently!!!). Wife and I decided to order dynamite combo cuz our "Dinner for 2" did not include enough sushi or rolls. Instead of getting salad, chicken karage, assorted sushi and tempura udon we got 5 rolls (6 pieces each roll) and 12 pcs of sushi. WTF. We love sushi and rolls but not this many at once. After inquiring about our order, we were told we did not order Dinner for 2 but they will happily packed the uneaten food for us which they normally don't do for their customers. Word of advice, keep on repeating your order until the waiter or waitress repeats EXACTLY what you had said.
