Nice Surprise!

A friend introduced me to this place last week and I dragged my b-friend there only days later to get some more of their amazing sizzling jumbo prawns and crispy skin chicken. Yes, they have the usual stuff on the menu- order from the chef's recommendation list to get some more interesting stuff. Good, spicy (but not TOO spicy) Szechuan food. The decor is warm and cozy- great paint job. Only problem- both nights I was there, the take-out orders were coming in fast & furious, which meant that diners in the resaurant had to wait a bit too long to place orders. But I can see why they're busy...and soon I'll be ordering some of their take-out for myself!

It's so nice to find a Chinese restaurant that doesn't just do the same old stuff! although I like their noodle dishes, I really come for the pan-fried dumplings and the green onion pancakes and the green beans. Yum!

A Little Gem

We go here a lot for comfort food, even though it's not in our 'hood. Great service- the owner greets us like long-lost relatiives when we walk in, and their ginger beef is delicious! They claim to have the best in town, and so far, we agree. You won't find too many unusual Chinese dishes here- just the usual standards, but nicely done. The ambience is so-so, but it's light inside and the service is quick, and as I said, very friendly.

I Really Wanted To Like It...

But I didn't. I'd been meaning to go here for a few years, and one night my b-friend and I decided to check it out. It was a Friday, around 8pm, and busy, but no line-up or anything. The service was terrible! Looooong waits (for a truly forgettable blue cheese dip that was stone-cold and tasted like blue cheese dressing) and tuna (it's barely cooked, folks, so why did we have to wait well over 30 minutes?). Even water took forever to arrive. The staff were apologetic, but I couldn't see why it was taking so long, and the food was certainly not worth the wait. I'd go back for cocktails on a weeknight, but that's about it.
