I just finished a slow roasted pork sandwich and it was awesome. It was fairly pricy ($11 for a sandwich and a pop) but worth it in my opinion if you want to treat yourself. There was a lot of great other options which I want to try out.
The place is clean and simple and the service was very friendly. It's in a good and convenient location.
We live only a block away from the new Dadeo at Cambie and 17th. We were very happy to see something replace the greatly missed Tomato in the same spot. While it was a drastic change to the menu, we were hoping for something different and high quality.
As in the review above, we were un-impressed with the quality of the food. It took a long time to come for us as well, and it wasn't busy at at all. Our server was nice and attentive, however the owner just wandered around the whole evening and ignored attempts for me to refill my water.
The water was necessary as the food came out over-fried and dry. My wife had fried chicken that was really dry and unsatisfying. I had a po'boy, that was relatively flavorless, with stale bread.
The decor is either a work in progress, or very unimpressive. It looks like a stripped down tomato with a couple of pieces of artwork, and I wish the quality was even close to as high. The website advertises it as a bar as well... but it's open only until 10 each night.
On a positive note, the yam fries were very good and well worth the $1 upgrade.
I haven't seen anything from them yet in trying to embrace the neighborhood or become a local favorite. For the SHOPTHELINE event, they had no samples, advertising, enticing events to lure the people into the restaurant. I hope it improves quickly.
There couldn't be a much nicer location on the drive. The selection of belgian beers is great and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I was pretty disappointed with the food however, as is often the problem with restaurants that try to dabble in too many cuisines, it didn't quite work out. Everything was okay, and nothing was memorable.
So go if you want a quick meal on a nice patio in town, but not if you want a memorable dinner.
