Cockney Kings Fish & Chips6574 Hastings Street, Burnaby
If you like fish and chips, you'll love cockney kings
Submitted Thursday, April 15, 2010 - 1:24am [Dine in]

The only place around in North Burnaby that offers all you can eat fish and chips. The chips could be improved on, but the fish is delicious. I've been for both lunch and dinner, and both times I've had a positive experience there. Also, if you want cheap fries, you can order it separate and take out. The large windows can also allow you to keep an eye out for your vehicle.

Good Neighbourhood Restaurant
Submitted Thursday, April 15, 2010 - 1:20am [Dine in]

Since the restaurant is family owned, I give props to the owner. I like how they give rice in an airplane for the children to enjoy. Really cute. Nonetheless, the food is good. Personally, teriyaki chicken can't go wrong. If you live around here, it's worth a try if you are into sushi.

Nothing Special
Submitted Thursday, April 15, 2010 - 1:16am [Dine in]

There wasn't anything memorable about that place. It was just regular sushi at a regular price with regular service. However, during the middle of the day, the glare inside is really bright and could be fixed. Other than that, everything was fine and nothing really stood out for me to mention.

There really isn't much to comment on this restaurant. Cheap food, fattening, and have a play place for the kids to enjoy themselves... Other than that, there isn't much to say. Overall, not bad if you want something fast and fattening. Watch Supersize me to see just how bad it is for you.

Best Pasta Around!
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 10:27pm [Dine in]

Voted best pasta by many different consumer magazines, and in my books, definitely. The small space gives a cozy feel and the dimmer lights give that atmosphere. Large portions but they have gotten smaller over the years I've been there. They would give a free pen if you finish the serving. However, their take out is MUCH smaller and not worth it. Eat in if possible. Line up is long, but in my opinion, truly awesome.

Best Japanese In Burnaby
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 10:23pm [Dine in]

The look inside is traditional (well I'm not Japanese so I wouldn't know). The food is good for its price, and the servers aren't bad looking either. Personally, I enjoy their sashimi on rice, the best value on the menu in my opinion. Filling for not much. Worth a try if you haven't.

Top Shanghai, litterally
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 10:03pm [Dine in]

The best Shanghai food around, and I live in Burnaby just to go to this restaurant. If you like spicy food, they have a large selection of food that would most likely fall into your liking. Personally, I enjoy their hot and sour soup, the large is actually really large! If you can speak canto or mando, you will have no trouble speaking with them.

good if you like eating oil
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 9:58pm [Dine in]

I ordered a pasta dish and when completing it, there was a layer of oil about 2cm thick at the bottom of my dish. The ambiance wasn't bad, it had that romantic touch, yet not quite. Not really worth going back to if I were given the option to. The price wasn't the best either. It could've been cheaper since all they are giving you is pasta and oil.

Personally, I love pho. However, there is a lot of MSG in the pho. Not the healthiest thing around (not that pho is healthy to begin with) but makes do for an empty stomach craving pho. I miss the lion fish in the fish tank. Overall, its pretty average, nothing spectacular.

Awesome Take Out for Parties
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 9:50pm [Dine in]

I took out combo tray (can't remember which one, they are all good though), the food was so-so when eating. However, it was the large portions that made up for the quality. The sashimi ontop of the rice were HUGE. Great for take-out and parties. I also liked how they give you discounts for ordering ahead.

Definitely tastes very good and is worth going back for. The regular lamb dish is execellent. The servers are nice and always have an execellent attitude, or "serve with a smile". Often, this place is very busy and a half hour wait is definitely worth it. Worth driving to if out of town to try it out.

My Favourite Place To Eat Pho
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 8:40pm [Dine in]

Whenever I get pho cravings, I would usually come here. They make the best pho around my neighbourhood. It's just like any other place, nothing special, however, the store owners are nice and treat me with respect. Although the place looks runned down, they can make some decent food. Worth a try.

Not bad for the price
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 8:36pm [Dine in]

I usually order grilled chicken and rice. It costs $6.50. It is a large plate and not that bad. Overall, nothing spectacular. If you live close to here, its worth a try when you are craving something viet. Pho is relatively cheap too. Also, for students they accept SPC card for a 10% discount, which helps.

Not Bad
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 8:33pm [Dine in]

When you begin to eat your food, it tastes good. However, when you are on your 30th plate of beef or pork, it starts to taste pretty nasty. Lesson learned: not to order massive amounts of beef / pork. The vegetables were pretty good though. Good selection of food for price.

What happened to the Service?
Submitted Wednesday, April 14, 2010 - 8:28pm [Dine in]

My friends and I went to eat there for dinner. It cost $24 for AYCE. When paying, the waitress waited behind us and stared us down making sure we paid our 10% tip. Worst experience / service in Burnaby and Vancouver. Next time, if there is a next time, we will make sure they are not getting tipped.
