My wife and I have eaten at Rosa's a couple of times in the past and still occasionally order take outs. We find the food quality reasonable but it's nothing to rave about.
The service we've experienced has been anywhere from begrudging to appalling and is the reason we no longer eat there. I've eaten at many good restaurants at home and abroad and remain baffled at the bizarre attitude that the staff (and owner) have towards customers. At least with a take-out you don't have to put up with the service :)
Pajo's serves great fish and chips. Nice sized portions (we always order small Halibut and it is more than enough for a hungry adult).
The Fish can be ordered either Cod, Halibut or Salmon. The Halibut is really yummy and the batter is light and not too greasy. Chips are also notably tasty. Try the fresh squeezed Lemonade - it is quite good.
Overall, really great Fish and Chips in a nice setting at Rocky Point. Only drawback is they get very busy on weekends so be prepared to wait 30-45 minutes for your order sometimes.
My friend lives in port moody, right up Ioco road mountains and whenever i visit him, we order or eat in at this place because to put it bluntly - we're lazy to go anywhere else, especially since it's port moody...no offense to moody residents!
Knowing real, authentic and delicous chinese food, i'll definitely say and agree with other reviewers that this place is a disgrace to authentic chinese cooking. however it's good as a westernized version of chinese food and since i've lived in north america for nearly 22 years, i don't mind eating it lol...
ingredients aren't exactly the freshest and i sometimes keep wondering why i would eat more it the next time around - maybe because the place has not given me any stomach aches yet because that's normally my red button for trashing and forgetting about a certain restaurant.
price and value seem to be a bit on the above average side, especially when u consider it's location and demographics. oh well, perhaps it's because there are no other chinese restaurants nearby.
the restuarant in itself, when u step in, is moldy, stuffy and depressing. the decorations are bare and mono-like with no warmth or human spirit. staff seem bored because the place doesn't seem too busy but there are still a couple of tables full.
oh well, i don't visit that friend TOO often, except perhaps once of twice a month anyways lol...
Eaten here a few times and always been pleased with the atmosphere, view, food and service. Decided to take my wife out for her birthday, making a party of 11. As we had more than 6 guests we had to pay a 15% service charge.
Took 45 minutes for our appetiser order to be taken. Drinks would take ten minutes to arrive and at one point I thought our waitress had gone home as I'd not seen her for thirty minutes. It seemed that our waitress was more interested in serving her other tables than us, as we were already committed to a 15% charge. Our waitress struggled to manage the ordering process which meant I couldn't relax for the whole meal as somebody needed to co-ordinate the process.
Wholly unsatisfactory experience and wished I'd gone elsewhere instead. What a waste of $400.
My fiance and I went here on the weekend to celebrate my birthday with friends. The only bad part of our experience was that when we showed up and told them we had reservations for 15 people, no one knew what I was talking about, even though I spoke to one of the managers on the phone. But within 10 minutes we had our "reserved section". All of my friends came from Vancouver and Burnaby and were very happy with the portion and quality of food. Everything was very good. Yhe mushroom caps are HUGE! Our server always made sure everyone had enough drinks and that we were well taken care of. There is a patio at this pub so if you like to sit outside you definately could. Overall, a great place to meet some friends for some drinks and good food.
Let's start with the good things:
Now the bad things:
The restaurant seemed unorganized from start to finish. Lots of staff but not a lot getting done.
Our reservation was for 8:30 p.m. but we didn't eat until just before 10:00 p.m.
We arrived just after 8:00 and were told the table would be ready close to 8:30 so we took a seat in the lounge. It took 20 minutes to get our first drinks.
While sitting in the lounge we we told a couple times that they were sorry about the wait but the table should be ready within a couple minutes. (Once at 8:40 and again about 10 minutes later) Had we known it would take as long as it did the staff should have just been honest so we could order an appetizer while we waited...
We were seated at our table just before 9:00.
It took aabout 20 minutes to get our appetizers and meal ordered.
At 9:40 the waitress came back to the table to say that the main dish I ordered was no longer available. The appetizers arrived shortly after that. We ended up getting our main dishes shortly before 10:00 p.m.
When we were being seated I noticed several tables that had been empty but just not cleared and reset. There were no groups of people paying or waiting to pay so the tables had been empty for a bit. Why it took them so long to get a table ready for us is a mystery. Throughout the evening we received 4 apologies for a variety of things but offered nothing to make up for the poor service.
Dinning out at a restaurant should be an experience from the time you walk in the door to the time you leave. Unfortunately our experience with the Boathouse was a bad one. The evening was not worth the amount of money we paid.
My fiance and I brought four of our close friends to the Boathouse for my birthday and it was our first time going to the new boathouse in Port Moody. It was July 1st and was extremely busy but we were sat within 10 minutes. Once we got to our table, we were given our menus and our server arrived shortly after to take our drink orders. Me and 3 of my other friends all ordered the Starburst Mojito (we were told it was created by one of the employees at the bar) it was fabulous! Very sweet though so if you do not like something sweet then maybe it is not a choice for you. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Penne (I do not eat fish, seafood or steak) but it had just the right touch of garlic and was nice and creamy. More chicken would have been great to see but it was great otherwise. my fiance had the King Crab legs and said they were very good, another friend had fish and chips and she said they were the best she has ever had, the other ordered a seafood chowder and barely ate all of it because of the amount of seafood in it, one of our friends ordered the steak and lobster and said his steak was perfect and the seafood was fresh, and another ordered a fish dish and he also really enjoyed his dish. We all loved our food immensly! It came to the table hot, fresh and very favourful. I would have liked some fresh pepper for my pasta, but I think our server forgot. I ordered a slice of cheesecake for dessert and the piece was enough for 3 people to eat from! The view is fabulous (great restaurant for a first date, or special occasion). We will definately be back!
As a resident of Newport Village, St. James’s has become a regular place to have great food and a great time. The place is packed on Friday and Saturday nights with a friendly, up-beat crowd. I have also dined at St. James’s for lunch on several occasions. The food is fantastic, the service solid, prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere typical of an Irish pub. It's a great place to bring family, go for drinks with friends, or begin your Saturday night. No complaints here...I love it!
I had dinner on the patio at the Boathouse Restaurant the other evening. The inexperienced hostess was polite but unable to answer standard questions, including enquiries about reservations. The service was also mediocre, with friendly, but inexperienced wait staff. The food was ok, the drinks ok too. However, with that being said, I must say the overall atmosphere and decorating is great, and the patio fantastic. My recommendation—make use of the patio on a hot summer day with drinks and an appy, but if you expect great food and service save your money.
Consistently decent food, that is actually surprising good for a sports pub. The tuesday wing night is an outstanding deal for wings compared to most other places, as the portions are quite generous; it comes with dip and carrot sticks and the wings themselves are large very tasty. Service is always good and attentive.
Very good homemade cooking , I really enjoy the indian cooking and will keep on going back.Is a very happy place to be and everyone who work there a so friendly.I really enjoy the white wine they serve with my indian meal(butter chicken). My wife ordered a panini sandwich and she enjoyed it.Very clean and the name of the cafe is Nicolelina's is actually the owner two daughters.First daughter is Nicole and the second is Lina, very cute girls .Great place to be.
I haven't been to Pajo's in a while, but I used to go often when I was little with my parents and grandparents and I remember getting fries in the newspaper. It's a really strong childhood memory of going swimming in the pool, going to Pajo's and the park right beside it. Hopefully the boathouse doesn't take too much business away from Pajo's... it's a great little stand!!!
This place has awesome italian food. I mean, real Italian food. Not some trendy pasta dish at the local modern restaurant. The food did take a while to get to our table, however, it's a tiny restaurant, and I'm guessing there's not more than 2-3 cooks back there, so I let it slide. And Rosa served us! Not many places have the owner as a server! I thought that was cool. She was very nice. She reminded me of my mom or something - very warm and welcoming. Like I said before, it's tiny - so I was a little claustrophobic. It's cool because they have pictures of all the famous people that have been there on the walls. I think that's a cute touch. My boyfriend wanted to pack up his bread, and I wouldn't let him because I said it looked cheap - but when Rosa came over with our leftovers packed up, she packed up the bread for him, and he was happy. Kind of hard to find unless you know where it is because it's so small. I've driven past it many times and not even known it was there. Will definitely return soon!
This little restaurant in Port Moody is a great place that not many people know about. Unlike other Chinese restaurants that are crowded, noisey, and uninviting, this place is smaller and not very busy most of the time. The service is good, although on one occasion one of the cooks came to our table to take our order. I'm guessing because the servers English wasn't very strong. Green Tea is not always served, but when it is, it is always full. The food is excellent and the portions are very good for the price you pay. The food is also not greasy like other places, and it is actually flavourful. I suggest the Kung Pao Chicken and Sweet and Sour pork.
Have tried this restaurant twice-- once for Dinner and once for Lunch. Both times the service was just terrible especially at Lunch where we only saw our server to take the order & drop off the cheque. At Lunch they charge $ 19.95 for Fish & Chips which consisted of two small pieces of overcooked Fish and a hadfull of French Fries plus a limp excuse for a salad. I think if I went back I would only have drinks in the bar as the Restaurant has a great view and the Bar looks comfortable but would hope the service there is better than the restaurant
My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time, after reading reviews that we wouldn't like it if we wanted authentic Chinese. Well, I prefer Westernized, so off we went.
First impressions did not speak well - the walls seem very bare, and a dirty-looking curtain covers the entrance to the kitchen. Ceiling looks saggy in some areas, and spotted with water damage.
Service was decent, our server did offer some dishes that he liked at our request. He didn't check on us too much or too little. The appetizers were alright (wonton soup and egg rolls), though nothing special. I ordered a combination dinner, my husband had duck for the main course.
Perhaps this is not the "style" of westernized that we're used to, because neither of us liked our meals. The rice seemed to be missing salt, the dry ribs were TOO salty, and the chow mein was simply gross. I tried adding soy sauce, but it didn't really help. We had the food packed to go to be polite, but it will likely be hitting the trash. We will not be going back.
Have been to this place many times and have always enjoyed myself. I found it to be very busy on Fridays and Saturdays so go early. There is also a live bandon these nights and it gets very loud and can be uncomfortable due to the small space.
Service is great and the food is wonderful. Nachos are huge!! Most portion sizes are good value and have a good range of choices. Would recommend the St.James burger and have yet to find a better place for martinis!
I think there are many local regulars as I have seen many servers greet them on a first name basis, which is always a good sign.
Will continue to come here for not only the booze but the food and friendly casual atmosphere.
I have read the other reviews on here regarding Charlie's, and for all those that claim it is the best Mexican food in the Lower Mainland I really have to wonder if they've ever had Mexican food before (despite their claims to the contrary). I'm not even sure if I'd say it was the best Mexican food in Port Moody, and considering it's the ONLY Mexican food in Port Moody that's not saying much for the place!
I moved to Port Moody 9 months ago as of a few days ago I tried Charlie's for the second time. The first time I was there (about 6 months ago) the service was slow (even though we were the only patrons in the restaurant), the chips we got were old tasting and were overcooked (even bordering on burned), the salsa was tasteless, the restaurant decor (although eclectic and could be cute and homey if updated slightly) is in desperate need of a deep cleaning and could be described as almost dingy, and over all the whole experience was a disappointment.
Despite all of this, I was craving Mexican and didn't feel like driving to Poncho's (on Denman Street where the food and service is truly some of the best in the Lower Mainland) so myself and a friend decided to give Charlie's a second chance. Like a bad case of indigestion, my same complaints regurgitated themselves to come back and haunt me, making the second experience worse than the first.
This time when we arrived the place had quite a few people, but other than that everything was the same. Same old-tasting almost burned chips (which, I forgot to mention were cold -- whereas in most Mexican restaurants worth their weight in re-fried beans would serve them warmed). Same bland salsa. Same dirty atmosphere. Same horrible service (it took 20 minutes just flag down a waitress to bring me water and menu's, another 15 minutes to get a watered-down margarita, another 20 to be able to order food, and then another HOUR to actually get the food). When the food did arrive, it was cold (you'd think after an hour waiting for it that it would at least be warm, but you'd think wrong. By the time we actually got the food, we were so disgusted with the experience that we had lost our appetites, which was fine actually because the few bites we did take of the food proved to strengthen my first impressions that while the food it ok it's definitely not good. As well, considering it took the length of time it took to get the food you'd also think that they would let you sit for a spell and actually try to eat it -- but not here. Within 10 minutes our waitress (miracle upon miracles considering we barely saw here for the first 2 painful hours of waiting) was back at the table-side asking if we'd finished and if she could pack anything up. We then had (I'm assuming Charlie) come by and ask the same thing less than 10 minutes after that. We tripped over ourselves trying to accept his gracious offer of release from the culinary nightmare we found ourselves in, paid the over-priced cheque, and ran for our lives --- never to return.
If you have 4 hours to kill, money to waste, want ok Mexican fare and don't want to make the drive into Vancouver, then Charlie's is the place to go. Other than that do yourself a favour and skip it.
Rosa and her restaurant are absolutely perfect in every way. I will not eat anywhere else when wanting good Italian food/pasta. It is perfect every time!
For those people who wrote that Rosa is grumpy remember that when you smile at someone they always smile back! I think Rosa and her staff do an exceptional job of managing the crowds of people they receive on a daily basis in such a small setting. When I dine out I don't want to rush through my meal in half an hour and I actually enjoy the time between courses. My husband and I dined there last night and we ordered wine and salad to start and then ordered our dinner. Rosa did not mind at all and actually suggested we do that.
This restaurant is the best in Port Moody as well as beating out some of the other higher end Coquitlam Restaurants.
Ate here recently and we ordered the sri lankan noodles, malaysian mee goreng, and curry. All were very tasty and authentic. Not too spicy but that can always be asked. Chinese tea and side of hot sambal regularly refilled. Highly recommend the food, and you also get a nice view of the mountains at this very clean asian restaurant!
