Terrible food, too bad!

I was excited to have this place open literally right at my doorstep. Such potential! But so very sad in the end.

The menu is confusing. But that is not the end of the world. Eventually, we ordered. The servers are slow and obviously disinterested (but who can blame them...more on that later...). When we paid, I was shocked at the more than $30 total for what is essentially mall-court food.

The food....aside from the kung-pow chicken and noodles which my hubby ate once for lunch which was OK....the food is terrible. Overcooked rice at an Asian restaurant? Butter chicken was too salty. Everything else was too saucy, too sweet, over cooked. The appies are just frozen from a box, I am sure, and not worth the price.

The owner...very strange man who came to our table and talked...and talked...and talked for over 20 minutes. One-way conversation, very uncomfortable, as he talked about stuff you shouldn't to people you have just met, nevermind who are paying to eat in your restaurant. He seemed to like to tell the staff off in front of customers too. No wonder the food and service is lacklustre.

In short, save your time and money. Like I said, the chicken and noodle was alright, but I don't know if that was a one-off. If you must eat here? Ask for half the sauce and skip the awkward conversation by having take-out or avoiding eye-contact...

I only discovered the existence of this branch whilst walking past it the other day. I have eaten from the Langley branch in the past and really enjoyed what I ate there so my expectations were high. I telephoned from home to order a take out for delivery this evening. The person who took my order just could not spell my name, I repeated the spelling (of 6 letters) about 3 times, even shouting it out to him as I thought that he may have had a hearing problem. I then had to do the same with my address. 20 minutes later, a female called me to enquire about my address! I repeated what I had told the first person but she appeared confused and clearly had not heard of my road which is in Port Moody, not far from the restaurant. When the driver eventually arrived with the food, he told me to call the restaurant as they had not given him a receipt hence had no idea of what I owed! I then had to waste my time calling to find out how much I owed, only to be asked by the manager what I had ordered! At no point did the manager apologise for this shambles. When I finally got the food, I noted that my name was still not spelled correctly on the boxes. In fact, it wasn't even a variation of my name but someone else's altogether. The fact that the 3 boxes corresponded to my order made me realise that the person who originally took my order must really have a hearing or literacy problem.

My main order was the singapore cashew stir fry with chicken and hokkien noodles. I could not taste any cashew in the dish nor could I see any. The menu advertises this dish as being spicy. All I could taste was sweet and sour sauce with not a hint of spice. It is also stated on the menu that the dish contains cilantro. There was definitely no cilantro in mine. I ate some of it and binned the rest. The other items I ordered were the samosas and green onion cakes which were tolerable. All in all, my experience of this place has been overwhelmingly dismal. Bad service is one thing, but bad service (with no apology) coupled with even worse food is unacceptable. I will never set foot anywhere near this place again. I have already emailed a complaint to Wok Box's customer service dept.

Avoid this Place - Great Packaging...Little or No Value

If you enjoy sickly sweet and sour pork, an incredibly confusing menu, poor food value, and cheap fortune cookies then Wok Box is for you.

I was really confused when entering this eatery - its really a mall food court style setup with nicer sit down restaurant. The people are nice enough, but truly the food is subpar. Upon entering, the server at the counter apologizes for the menu - telling me its confusing. It sure is! They have names like "Jungle Curry" - like you supposed to know what that is. No useful pictures to speak of.

I saw a bunch of teens furiously wok frying noodles and putting them into shiny take out boxes - neat hey? The portions are tiny and laughable- with very, very little quality ingredients for an astonishing $6.99!

I ordered the Pho noodles - HUGE MISTAKE! It took over 20 minutes to arrive and when it did, it was a greasy, sloppy mess consisting of a meager portion of white noodles and the fattiest thinly sliced beef known to mankind. When I commented to the server about the absolute lack of vegetables or greenery, she commented that I could add hotsauce to it! Huh? Gee thanks...

Never again Wok Box, never again.

When I went there for the first time it was exciting I'm not gonna lie. I mean chinese food in those little boxes... pretty cool! But when I finally got my food I was less then satisfied. It was nothing better then fast food. It was greasy, prosesed and tasted as if it was full of MSG. It's an ok pick if your in the mood for that greasy kind of chineses food. The service was fast and you could see it being cooked right in front of you!!!

Nice Place, Aweful food

I passed by the Langley location on my lunch break. First of all, the menu was super confusing to look at on the board after I walked in.

I decided on the indian butter chicken. It was a huge mistake. The rice it came with was all mushy and wet! Even amateurs know how to cook rice properly so I was wondering what the heck was going on. The butter chicken sauce had no flavor and the chicken itself was in strips. What an embarrasment to the Indians themselves. If i was a King in India and was served this dish, I probably would have sliced off the cook's head.

Washroom, eating area and restaurant itself was nice and clean tho.

Okay, I know it's fast-foody and I shouldn't have expected much. But honestly the food at Wox Box was so bad it prompted me to write my first review ever. First, the rice was overcooked and cold. When an Asian style restaurant can't even make rice you should be worried. I ordered the Thai Curry Noodle Bowl. It somehow managed to be sweet and bitter at the same time, and the mash-up of flavours didn't work at all.
Add in bad music, slow staff and uninspiring decor and it's no wonder this place is often empty.

Avoid this restaurant

The food at the wok box is not worth eating. I ordered the szechuan pepper noodles with chicken and it was like eating candy it was SO sweet. The chow mein noodles were not quite cooked with made for an unappetizing entree. I also had the spring roles which had an unidentifiable goop in the middle.

Since it is supposed to be a take out style restaurant there is not much to say about the staff or service.

This place is also really expensive for the awful food that you get. $12 for an entree that is not particularly large, not that this really mattered since I could barely eat mine.

Ambiance really suffered while I was there, a table of young people that knew the owner were being loud and obnoxious. The restaurant itself could be quite nice but featured loud tacky techno music.

Overall this is a restaurant that I would encourage everyone to avoid. The food is junk and it really has nothing else to offer. There is excellent food elsewhere in the area, no reason to waste your money here.

GREAT NEW PLACE IN PORT MOODY, new favorite

Food: I ordered the singapore cashew and it was delicious. The portionings of the food is more then fair and a regular sized stirfry was perfect and even a bit much for just one person. Came with obviously fresh veggies and overall was a very satisfying meal.

*Yes, some of their sauces are a bit sweeter, but you can easily ask them to add some spice or saltiness.

Ambiance: This was a great dine in/take out restauraunt. Its not the biggest place, but they made great use of the space and it had comforable seatings and 2 tvs for customer convenience.

* Service: The service was friendly and welcoming and it seemed like the employees really cared and were happy to be there. The weekend night staff was also great and genuine in conversing with myself and other customers.

Overall value of the food was well worth it, and byfar the best asian fusion restaraunt in coquitlam/port moody area!
