Rocky Point Cafe is a fine dining restaurant where you can sit back and relax and enjoy heathly and delicious food.
This is a beautiful dining room. It is much nicer than I thought it would be. The dining room is spotlessly clean, nice soft classical music is playing in the background and the room is softly lit but not so dark that you cannot read the menus. It is a very intimate and cozy room.
The waitress was a real gem she was very upbeat and pleasant and kept our water glasses topped up during the evening.
We ordered the 3 course meal for $25.00. Mushroom soup was the soup of the day and we both decided that we would have the soup as it was a cool evening and a nice bowl of hot soup sounded very appealing. Our waitress told us that we would get the soup complimentary so we had a 3 more choices for our dinner. What a great bonus. We ordered chicken wings and lettuce wrap for appetizers, salmon and pork tenderloin for entrees and ice cream with brownies and cheesecake for dessert. This is when the serious problems begin. Cream of mushroom soup is Campbell's canned soup. Lettuce wrap and chicken wings both were very salty and tasted like they they were prepackaged. Next came the entrees. Very generous size portions but bland, bland, bland. It could have used some of the salt from the appetizers. We're sure that these entrees were purchased from Costco or some other supplier and simply heated up in the microwave. Desserts were pretty much a repeat of the appetizers and entrees. When we went to use the washrooms hubby commented that he could see a microwave and fridge but it didn't look like they had an actual oven or stovetop. We did not hear any of the sounds that you normally hear coming from a restaurant kitchen so I strongly suspect that they purchase their meals in microwavable bags and simply heat and add garnishes like fresh fruit.
It's okay if you don't mind eating prepackaged and canned food but if you're looking for food that is freshly prepared this is not the place for you. We will not return. It's too bad because aside from the food everything else is great but we always go for the food.
Chef Ana's contemporary cooking is straightforward, effectively refined but intensely flavorful. Diners can mix and match multi-course pre-fixed selections, or opt to just let Chef Ana guides one through a spontaneous tasting experience. I noticed when entering the restaurant it was very clean and cozy, with plenty of natural lighting and places to sit. The décor makes one feel very relaxed. I loved the Bricker-Brac China that surrounds the dining room, with large comfortable chairs. Feeling the mood that evening for something decaffeinated, I decided on a pot of Rose tea with honey. The tea pot was delivered to my table and was placed on a metal warming saucer, which kept the tea warm for quite a while. I decided to try the Sea Scallop and Prawn with Rice. What impressed me first the Saffron rice! Beautifully plated! Which the Prawns and Scallops were moist and perfectly seasoned. My friends had the Canada Filet Mignon and Pork Tenderloin both wrapped with bacon, with a fine wine reduction. Both of them stated “the flavor of the wine reduction is outstanding and meat is so tender we can cut it with our forks”! I should mention the salads were extra fresh and excellent as well as the wine. This was my second time visiting Rocky Point Cafe. The first time I had the Home-Made Cheese Cake which Ana serves with a variety of teas or her special blend of organic stainable coffee, so delicious. When visiting Vancouver I normally eat in Yale-Town, but one finds the drive to Port Moody is worth this well-kept secret. If Ana’s not too busy ask her to sing you a song, her voice is as beautiful as her dishes.
This has to be one of the finest places in Port Moody to get an excellent meal, great service and value.
It has an excellent menu with a great choices. In our group (8 persons) all ordered different meals and each person was impressed with their meal. We wil be back
we found Rocky Point Cafe for mothers day May 2011 after many disappointing brunches at the usual chain-spots and hotels where we have almost always come away feeling rushed through a mediocre over-priced meal that we could have done far better at home.
So really glad we have found Theresa and Anna at Rocky Point. Great food. Real service. Super-comfy high back chairs that we settle in while they take great care in our entire meal. The pancakes were a hit again with us and our 2 year old daughter along with the generous fresh fruit platter that is actually fresh quality fruit.
If you are looking for a brunch/lunch/dinner spot for a group (around the great large table), family friendly (something other than the typical sticky high-chair/high-sugar/bad kid food places), or a couple looking for a regular place for a nice meal at a reasonable price then drive a block off the main drag to find RPC.
No rush, no hype, just well prepared and presented meals. Each time we have been we can just tell they take pride in being a 1-off restaurant. They are genuinely happy to see you and make sure you have everything you need (and the place is spotless). We will be going back soon to this great local restaurant for the food, service, and because small owner run restaurants need to be supported when they are great at what they do.
I'm writing this, because the experience they gave us deserves applause.
Went there on a saturday night...only one other table! So we had the whole place to ourselves, my date and I enjoyed a romantic evening in a comfortable and romantic setting. The other table left and we had the entire place to ourselves...on a saturday night!
We ordered the 3 course meal for 25$. Each item was splendid. We were also given an additional appetizer, a soup. And of course there was hot freshly baked served while waiting for our 1st course.
As others below me have said, "How do they stay in business"...seriously these guys deserve to stay in business. The only shame is there's no view but, christ almighty I highly recommend this place.
Grand.
I've been searching a relaxing place to have breakfast with my family for a long time, I found this place based on the good reviews below. We were pretty surprised how much effort the cook has put into the food. The freshness and the combinations on each dish were really enjoyable. The service was definitely excellent. We especially like the coffee. However, on the downside, the menu items were lack of choices. We basically tried everything on the menu which were assembled by the same food. Anyways, a good place for quick breakfast and no wait on weekends.
We were looking for a breakfast spot in Port Moody, as we planned to do some geocaching in the area. Found the Rocky Point Cafe on Dinehere, and decided to give it a try. We're glad we did. We both had the ham and eggs breakfast. Very nicely prepared, with cucumbers, tomatoes and even a gherkin pickle. For $9.50 this included coffe and a fresh fruit cup at the end, as well as a small piece of chocolate, which came with the bill. Very nice value. We were surprised we were the only ones in the restaurant, which was very clean, including the ladies washroom. Was well worth the trip.
I went for dinner today with a girlfriend and it was a very pleasant experience!
The food came at good time, when we were done with our food. The server was very attentive. The chef offered two extra appetizers, one on the menu and one wasn't, it was both delicious and we were both not expecting it. We were so full by the time our main course came that we had to pack most of it and our dessert to go. The portions are good, the quality is very fresh, ambiance relaxing, and overall great experience for your dollar! We had the $25/three course meal. Highly recommend it! Will definitely go back. Definitely prefers the Rocky Point Cafe over the Boathouse in terms of service, food quality, and price!!! too bad the restaurant doesn't have a view like the boathouse:(
Will return for my birthday next month, definitely bringing the boyfriend here before then!
My wife and I had a few hours to kill in the Port Moody area one Sunday while one of our children attended a birthday party that included bowling, dinner, cake and the obligatory present opening ceremony. I searched for restaurants in the area, and came upon the Rocky Point Cafe. Based upon the previous reviews we decided to go there.
Bottom line....excellent! What others have said in their reviews is right on the mark.
As I said, we wanted a casually paced meal, and this is exactly what we got. A very comfortable, no rush, well served dinner. We never had to wait (i.e. the waiter - the owner's son - was regularly available and very attentive), but more importantly, we didn't have the meal served with overlapping courses. You know, entrée shows up half way through the appetizer. I hate that! At the RP Cafe, each course is it's own entity with a little breathing time in between.
The food was wonderful. After some appies, I had the sea scallops wrapped in bacon & prawns, my wife had the bacon-wrapped tenderloin. Both were perfectly done, more than enough, size-wise, and nicely presented. We finished off with cheese cake and a brownie/ice cream deserts.
Price - amazing. Between us, we had 5 bottles of Sleeman's and the fantastic 3-course meals, and the total came to under $100 with a generous tip! Wow!
Although we live in North Van., I know we will make a special trip, and even bring friends, to the Cafe! Highly recommended
Rocky Point Cafe is a hidden gem in Port Moody. Tucked away on Clarke by Moody street, it was by a friend's recommendation that I found this place. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by friendly and attentive service. The first time I was there, I had the organic pasta with sweet and sour meatballs for lunch and it was delicious! The pasta was slightly chewy and not overcooked, and the meatballs were very tasty. The portion was big enough for me to pack some of it for lunch the next day. My friend's panini had a thick filling of black forest ham and melted mozzarella cheese. The waiter consistently came to our table to fill our glasses, and we had fragrant chrysanthemum tea in a glass teapot (a nice touch). The second time, for lunch again, I tried the lunch combo special with the teriyaki chicken. It came with a salad and miso soup. The teriyaki chicken took awhile to come to the table, but it was only because everything was cooked from scratch at the moment you order, including the rice. The chicken was tender and perfectly crispy on the outside. It was incredible value as both lunch items were around $10. When we left, the owner of the restaurant opened the door for us and thanked us. Their service, quality of food, and value will definitely have me back again. Next time, I want to try the filet mignon for dinner!
Tucked into Port Moody, by the intersection of Moody and Clarke - is this little secret of a cafe with outstanding service, exceptional dinner selection and solid, consistent quality. It's a quiet, peaceful environment with an "English" twist, complete with classical music, beautiful tea displays and homely paintings. It's a real pity that so few people know about it - if they increased their marketing efforts I'm sure that the place would be full!
My bf and I ordered the 3 course meal for $25, and when we mentioned we were starving, the chef was kind enough to give us complementary ceasar salad and extra bread while preparing our other dishes!! The scallop skewers are highly recommended - fresh, succulent, and a great value! 8 huge scallops - and that's just for an appetizer! After eating the ceaser, skewers and bread we were already full. The filet mignon main course was extremely tender and generous in width - it was prepared in a fushion chinese-western style which was hard to find elsewhere. They used sockeye salmon (not the cheap pink salmon substitute!) for the other main entree, complete with a generous serving of light cream sauce. It's obvious the chef cooks every meal from scratch - which means a longer wait than usual restaurants - but the food is hot, and does not taste like it's been sitting there for ages. She takes pride in her food and it shows.
The service is great - the male waiter was eager to please and very genuine (no posh, stuck up waiters here) and they are accommodating to small changes in the dishes to suit your preference - for eg "more veggies please, but no red peppers etc". They offered complementary chocolates when we left.
Try it for dinner - it's definitely worth a visit!
THis restaurant looks like it is brand new and it is decorated very nice and really clean. THe signage is very poor and I have driven by it hundreds of times and have never noticed it. Parking is not great but find a spot & enjoy the great service and food. We both had clubhouse sandwiches and bowls of their home made soup. The sandwiches were $ 6.95 which came with a small salad. Excellent value and they gave us chocolates with the bill & even walked us to the door. Try it !!
Our walking group have had lunch at this restaurant and have enjoyed the quality and quantity. At our last lunch we peeked at the dinner menu and decided to have a Saturday evening dinner. The 3 course meal special looked very inviting.
We booked for 14 and everything was nicely setup when got there. To help the kitchen we emailed them ahead of time as to what most of us were planning to order.
The appetizers were very well done and presented. The prawn and scallop skewers were filled to the max. Each appetizer plate had 2 skewers.
The main courses were excellent. Presentation, quality and quantity were beyond our expectation. The attention to detail reminded us of cruise ship dining.
The desserts again was beyond our expectation. The banana split was huge.
We all felt that the $25 three course special is the best deal going in the lower mainland. The woman chef, Anna, comes from Beijing. It is very obvious that she trained as a chef in either a high-end hotel or western style restaurant. We will return to try more dishes.
We dropped by this small restaurant in Port Moody and were overwhelmed by the warm atmosphere and good quality of food we have experienced. The lunch menu is simple. We ordered the soup of the day of which is made with grounded Japanese pumpkin and a Club sandwich that served with fresh and crispy garden salad. Their home-made muffins were sold out by the time and that must be a popular item. Both the presentation and taste were so great. We could also hear the compliments by the other customers sitting around us. We asked for the dinner menu and know that they provide fine dining items like AAA steak, halibut, scallop and even abalone!.. Properly will go again to try those items!
My hubby & I dined at Rocky Point Cafe on December 6th, 2008. He had the stuffed chicken breast set menu which included a salad, soup, entre & desert. I had the prawns & scallops off the regular menu, with a cup of the daily soup which was a squash & onion puree with prawns. Everything was absolutely delicious - fresh & home-made that day. We finished with a pot of the chrysanthemum tea which provided a perfect end to our meal.
A note on service - we were actually served by the chef/owner (which may have been because our reservations were at 6pm & there were only 2 other tables other than ours). Therefore, the service we received was incredible - we felt like we were sitting at the chef's table! He is very passionate about his food which is refreshing.
Our dining bill was reasonable, considering the high quality of the food (the set menu is only available for December & was a great deal for us as I was able to sample the hubby's salad & dessert).
We will definitely return again.
Having reviewed several glowing reports, my boyfriend and I were excited to dine here. We made reservations on March 20 and were the only customers there for most of our Friday evening. We found the food and presentation seriously lacking. Our server didn't know the menu, had to ask us if the Cabernet Sav we ordered was red or white, but she was pleasant. The wine was served chilled; our butter came in plastic serving bits like those at fast food restaurants. We found that shocking for the price tag of $28 for our main course. The server recommended the sea bass, which we ordered. The presentation was good, but the fish was not fresh. Being seafood lovers, it took only a sniff and a small nibble to know it. When we told the server, she said it should be fresh because it was only the third day since it was bought from the market. We ordered the steak instead and it was okay, but we certainly wouldn't return. Everyone was pleasant, and the set up was quite charming, but the touches just weren't there.
We would not return to this restaurant..
