Onyx is a fresh and innovative twist on a classic steakhouse with 2 locations in the lower mainland.
I never complain........but we had an unfortunate evening out.
Everything was perfect ( great wine, appies) until........
40 minutes after ordering we were told by the manager that our orders were not available (lobster).
He returned with a tray of shooters which is usually a good thing but not during a meal.
My meal was delicious but everyone else had something wrong with their steaks ( overcooked).
Don't mind the prices but the food should equal the price and it really didn't.
To end the night we got the bill and my husband went to pay without looking at the bill. I grabbed it and saw that not only were we charged for the lobster that we did not receive, we were also charged for the tray of shooters. We had to wait to find someone as our waitress was chatting with friends. When she finally came, we showed her the bill and she changed it. We couldn't find the manager and ended up laughing it off. We were offered no apology and left with the feeling that we would never come back .
My friends and I ate at Onyx during their Brunch/Lunch menu. We were celebrating one our friends birthdays and brought in a cake, which the staff was very accommodating to us. Upon our arrival we were greeted by John who was polite, had a smile on his face when seating us.
Our waiter was Sean, very outgoing, friendly and helpful when asking questions about food choices on the menu and made some positive recommendations. One of the recommendations he made was the Prawn Club, which I had. The Prawn club was very good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was tough to decide on what to have, as I kept flip flopping on what to choose, so that is why I decided to go with one of our waiter's suggestions. By all means it was the right choice to make.
About half way through our lunch, Amanda the Executive Chef came out and spoke with us asking how our meals were. She as well as friendly and outgoing.
As far as prices go for the food value, Onyx is not on the lower scale, but not on the higher scale either and I would say they are in the middle of the pack. I felt that our Bill was reasonable for the four of us. I left their splitting the bill with my friends and including our tip my portion was under $30.00.
I am definitely looking forward to going back again with my husband for the dinner menu. Along with the atmosphere and pleasant staff I am seriously considering getting my parents a gift card for Christmas.
Bon Appetit!!! and if your thinking of going to Onyx, I would give it a two thumbs up.
