I went with a couple of girlfriends last night because we had a good time here the last time we went (granted, that was almost 5 years ago). We expected to have a good time last night too. Unfortunately, we left the place feeling very annoyed and disappointed. We were waiting for one more friend to arrive and she was late for about 10 minutes. During that time, 3 different waitresses came by and kept asking/hassling us if we wanted to order something to drink. Each time, we told them that we were waiting for our friend. When we finally ordered our drinks, they said that they didn't have it that night. Since they were so eager asking us to order drinks, maybe they could have informed us that they didn't have that particular drink that night... Just a thought. When we did order our food, I suppose they didn't have anything to bother us with, so it was ok then. However, they were very eager to clear our plates. And we didn't notice because we were still talking when they were doing clearing the plates. We didn't think much of it until we realized that the waitress didn't ask us if we were still working on our food. We thought she was just clearing empty plates but no, she had cleared the whole table. We didn't have a lot of food left but isn't it a common courtesy to ask? Overall, the waitresses were very eager to get us to leave. You would have thought that there were a lot of people waiting to get into this place. But no. There were about 4 tables that were seated during the 1.5 hours that we were there. I kind of regret tipping now...but that's neither here nor there. I have also heard rumours that they treat "young people" not so well because they don't tip well? I may look young but I'm 24... Regardless, no one is going to tip well if you treat your diners with this kind of service. I for one will never go back to this place and will tell everyone I know to not go unless they like being treated with horrible service. Oh and the food... is not horrible but not that good either. You can certainly find better elsewhere. Definitely not worth it for the price or the service.
I have eaten at this place a few times and have had consistantly good food and service. The food is fresh and the servings are generous. The sushi and sashimi was very fresh and of quality fish. The tempura platter is tasty and huge! The prices are reasonable for the quality and serving size. They always offer up freebies of different tastes as you are waiting for your food.Would definately reccomend!!
Tried this place for dinner for the first time about 2 weeks ago. The service was excellent. The menu selection was very good, and even my vegan husband found several options. We were in a rush and I ordered a miso soup and a few rolls. Service was quick and attentive. However I found the rolls to be so-so. Mainly because I found their rice to be a bit on the sweet side, which I don't like. Some places use more sugar than others, and I'm not a fan of that kind.
When looking up the phone number, I saw previous reviews and felt I had to add mine as one was very detrimental. We have been eating at Nagano a couple of times a month now for 4 years now, and find the staff very warm, welcoming and attentive. The food is very good and we eat at a lot of Japanese Restaurants so feel we can judge..
I go there ones and a wile to reunite. The ambiance is exciting and full of life. I usually order the edamame because there are not many vegetariane options to chose from. My friends have told me that the sushi there is exeptionally good. It's a definate must try and a definate essential in your dinning life.
I went here with my mom for lunch - what a huge disappointment due to the horrible customer service we received (and I have heard from others we are not alone in this but as we like to give the benefit of the doubt, heard the food was good and the location convenient, decided to try it out). It's not often my mom and me get the chance to go out for lunch together so what a huge disappointment this was to be treated so poorly and ignored by our waitress. We arrived at 1:45 and were told by a very impatient and rude server that we would be their last call as they closed at 3 (um, yes, ok, 1 hour and 15 min away?!) She was in a rush, abrupt, rude and unfriendly. We ordered bento lunch box specials, which arrived quickly and were delicious. Right after we received our meals, she brought us the bill, slapped it on the table and said we could pay up front! Tea was cold and she never reappeared to refill it, I got up and searched for her to ask (beg) for water and tea refills. We had lots of food leftover and decided to take some of it to go, we were given a styrofoam container to pack ourselves! We finally tracked someone down to pay for our meals and this is the very first time ever in my life I have not left a tip - I have received bad or mediocre service before and may have tipped poorly but this was the very first time ever where I felt so unwelcome and treated so rudely that no tip was left whatsoever. I guess they must not need the repeat business as they are in Newport Village so maybe they got a lot of traffic? I have already told my husband and two friends how awful the service was and Im sure my mom will do the same, how stupid of them to run a business this way, you send two people away upset and by the end of the week, 20 people will know about it easily! Needless to say, I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone, even though the food was quite good, I don't feel good spending hard earned money somewhere its not appreciated.
Nagano in general is overpriced, but I will admit that the food is better quality than say Sui Sha Ya or Sushitown. If you must go to a Nagano, choose the Coquitlam location 5 minutes away, by Coq. Ctr, as their ambiance is nicer and their service is faster/better. Nagano's rolls seem to be heavier on the mayo than other places I've tried and they seem to serve their rice warmer in the rolls than others.
