Not Good

I'm sorry but this is not a good Chinese Restaurant. The food tastes terrible; super greasy, oily and poor presentation and flavours, either bland or over sauced with MSG. We recently ate there and ordered some dishes such as chicken, shrimp, Peking duck and lettuce wrap and some other fish dish. The chicken and shrimp were soggy and looked like they just threw it together in seconds. The duck was sliced super thick (Peking duck is normally only supposed to have a nice layer of the crispy skin) and it tasted stale. The lettuce was old - brown streaks and the chopped meat tasteless and dry. Overall, not good. There are far better choices for Chinese elsewhere.

have been eating at this restaurant for many years, and the food has been outstanding in the past, but the only warning was not to use the washroom as you have to go to the dingy basement and the washroom is disgusting and to go back upstairs the handrail probably has never been cleaned ...the beef and vegetable had raw beef that seemed to be added to the veggies as an afterthought and the breaded almond chicken had the chicken cooked , but the dough on the outside was not . the whole meal was a huge disappointment

Ordered the tenderloin beef with gourmet sauce, black bean sauce chow mein, chicken congee & an egg roll.
Lots of beef in the chow mein, thick congee but the sliced chicken in the congee did not taste as fresh as it could be. The beef was tender but preferred a thicker sauce. Came with several fortune cookies. The crispy noodle chow mein dishes are always good. Its probably better eating in the restaurant but overall the food was above average..

house of mirrors

My sister and I are always looking for good wonton places nearby. We found this place during a visit to renting videos. It was really packed inside, probably only a table or so free.
We went back on another day just to have lunch there. I have to say, we've been deceived. I thought the place was a lot bigger, but this was the result of clever placement of mirrors. Oh well, that has nothing to do with the food.
The food was actually quite good. The fried beef and lettuce rice was not greasy. The soup had a good taste and the portions are fair. They also offer dim sum dishes, so you have quite a variety to choose from.
I think this restaurant is pretty good.

Very Rude Staff

This is a very overrated place. Although food is pretty good, the portions are getting smaller! Last time we were there in a group of four there was a line up at the door. We were just finishing and the young server said "We're busy, you go now!" I wish now I had just replied "Thanks for the info, we'll leave when we are finished. No tip for you!"

Very good value for the money

I just ordered off the dim sum menu. They have a very good selection of items for $2.50 plus some specialty dim sum items that are a bit more expensive that you order off a menu.

The portions are a very good size. It is all very well cooked and tasty. It's very good value for the money.

Service is decent. The staff works very hard and although it was very busy I was there less than an hour.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you want good dim sum for a reasonable price in the tri-cities area

Food Great! Surprise Charges not so Great!

I have been going to this place when it was located on North Road. The food is great as well as the service. The only thing that bothered me was an extra charge they put on our bill that was not stated in the menu nor did the server say anything about an extra charge.

I did have chat with the owner about this charge and she claims it's the restaurant policy. I think it would be advisable to have any extra fees stated on the menu so that customers are not surprised at the end when they get the bill.

If you are planning to go for dinner, get there early because the place fills up fast.

Cheers!

What happened to this place?

This place used to be the best Chinese restaurant in the North Road area, but that crown now goes to North Garden for two reasons. Number 1, this place is in Port Moody and number 2 because this place has gone downhill.

This place used to have excellent standard Chinese food (sweet and sour pork, bbq pork fried rice, chicken chow mein) and is famous for their crab. Well, after going to this place after their move to Port Moody. I am bent on never returning again.

Their chow mein is a monstrosity. Have you ever tried food court chow mein? That is Lougheed Wonton chow mein. It is the most dry, bland mass of low quality egg noodles with a few slivers of chicken and sprouts. There is no sauce other than trace amounts of soy sauce used when stir frying the noodles. I'm sorry... you might be able to pass crap like that off to white people, but not to an Asian. These people need a lesson in making chow mein from the masters, Hon's. You know you are getting real chow mein when they ask you 'crispy or soft noodle'.

I'm glad these guys moved away because North Garden is so much better.

No tip for YOU!!

BEWARE - CHECK YOUR BILL! was overcharged for a noodle soup and double charged for a vege dish. when your waitress says there's an extra charge (or as she said "a little extra") for a substitution, does that imply that they will double the price? that's ridiculous!! also, if the dish that she is recommending is already ON the menu, shouldn't she point out the item and the cost of it for the customer to decide whether or not he/she wants it?

not only were they unapologetic, they were rude and said i was WRONG! hope they enjoy losing a customer and their $0 tip!

WORST customer service EVER!!

Tasty Chinese Food with Good Price and Portion

I've been coming to this place when they were still on North Road. The food has been consistent and they are tasty. For the price, which is around $10 per dish, you'll have plenty to eat. The shanghai chicken and the hot pot dishes are very good. Excellent place to go for a family dinner.

Service drops when the place is really busy and there's not much for ambience.

I have found this restaurant by accident in the month of November 2006 and I find the food very well prepared and the price is reasonable. I was there for lunch Feb. 10th 2007 and dinner Feb. 11, 2007. In comparison to a lot of other Chinese restaurants, this one is very generous in their portions of food. Reservations on week-end is advisable.

Like so many Chinese restaurants out here..this one again dissapoints.
The food is the same as every other Chinese place. And coming from a place where it's much better, I can't be anything but sad that the quality & quantity here are beyond aweful.
Either too sweet, too greasy, greedy on the meat, or just plain flavourless.

I went to this restaurant last weekend and it was great! The food was fantastic! Especially the squid with gai lan and deep fried pork chops. Everything came out hot and fresh. It was a busy night and was hard to find parking. Service was the usual, the only down part was they ran out of mango pudding:(

A place with great food, and good portions

My buddy and I went to try this restaurant yesterday, after reading the reviews. I must say that I always drive by it, and never thought about going there. I've seen all the cars parked outside, and noticed that they're always busy for dinner, at least.

I have been to many chinese restaurants. I only like the "real" chinese food, not the westernized stuff. This place is definately authentic. I have a saying "If you don't see a lot of Chinese people in a chinese restaurant, it won't be good." Well this place was packed, and most customers were Chinese - a good sign.

We ordered a few dishes, and were impressed with the quality, flavor, and the portion. They gave a lot of meat in each dish, as opposed to other chinese restaurants. The prices were reasonable. The service was a little better than most chinese restaurants, but the servers never checked on our table after our food arrived. The ambiance was nothing special, but at least it wasn't dirty. The place could use more windows, allowing better street exposure - which it lacks.

If you're in the Tri-City area, then definately try this place out. It's probably the best chinese restaurant in the area. I will be back.
