The Golden Spike features 250 seats and 16 HDTV's including two monster projection screens making it a great place for sports as well as live music and DJ's. The menu offers a variety of pub classics including weekly and monthly specials.
I don't see why people like this place so much. Everytime I go there it begins with horrible door staff who are rude and are allways trying to get pieced off at the door. Then once you're in it's a long wait before you get a drink or food. When you finally do settle in you realize what am I doing at a bar full of either underaged kids, gang affilliated people and the crap that all other bars won't allow in. Take my advice and don't go here!!!!
There was nothing remarkable about the Golden Spike pub. It was overcrowded, dingy and outdated. It looks like the only thing that has been renovated in the last 20 years is the bathroom. The food is your typical lazy pub fare. You can tell the meat was frozen, the salad dressing tasted like it was out of a Kraft bottle and the menu is so boring. Unfortunately they do not serve blended drinks either. The only good thing was our waitress, who managed to remember everything and took good care of us despite how busy it was.
My biggest complaint was about the wrist stamps. When we arrived we took a seat, no one checked our IDs or provided us with a stamp. Hours later when we had to go to the bathroom or out for a smoke we were then required to hunt down our waitress, switch our credit cards for our IDs which she had to keep for our tabs, and then go get our IDs scanned and go through the Barwatch process at the front door to get a stamp. This was frustrating for us, our poor waitress who had enough to do and the door girl. They should have required everyone to get a stamp upon entry to save everyone the hassle later. Overall I would say this place is not worth going to.
Consistently decent food, that is actually surprising good for a sports pub. The tuesday wing night is an outstanding deal for wings compared to most other places, as the portions are quite generous; it comes with dip and carrot sticks and the wings themselves are large very tasty. Service is always good and attentive.
Like most pubs you get a pretty good value and decent food. Fridays are steak special night and worth the ten bucks or so for the steak, caesar salad, and fries.
I don't mind this place during the week or at lunch. Don't go during a hockey game, you won't find a seat.
I really enjoyed the Golden Spike Pub! The food was good (yes, it's pub food...so don't expect the best meal you've ever had) but it was really tasty and I enjoyed what I had! The drinks were really good, and my waitress was SO sweet and incrediblly helpful! I enjoyed the atmosphere! If you are looking for a nice quiet night, obviously don't go to a Pub *LOL*, but if you are looking for a fun night (with great music) and often live DJ's than this is the place for you! My friends and I enjoy popping down every now and again to relax on a Friday night, there are always a lot of people, great tunes, and lots of fun to be had by all!
Any restaurant on Sunday is packed for breakfast with the church crowd so I was pleased to get some good food with no crowds. This is where I'm getting weekend breakfasts from now on. Good food, good prices and no line up.
