Port Coquitlam Restaurant Reviews

Our go-to place for everything!!

My husband and I have been coming here for years! Every date night, birthday, every occasion you name it! My husbands company has held their Christmas staff party here for the past 2 years. Our party usually consists of 50 people and the restaurant always does a good job of creating big long tables and re-assembling the restaurant to fit our needs. We have amazing drinks as their is usually someone always at bar on these nights. We have been allowed to play our own music, use a microphone to make announcements and enjoy a crazy belly dancer. Despite the large group, we get treated just as well and have never felt neglected. The staff themselves have been unforgettably entertaining and social with us. The owner, Pamela, always comes out to greet us and have warm conversations with us upon our arrival. I recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Great Greek and good value

We took some friends here for dinner. The ambiance is more current than the traditional Blue/ white& vines greek decor, which i appreciated. It doesn't look like a strip mall restaurant from inside. The food is great. There were 4 of us and we each tried something different and loved it. Our friends ( foodies) even said it was some of the best Greek they have ever had! We had calamari plate, Roasted lamb (which was so tasty we all wished we'd ordered) seafood plater, and Moussaka. We were all happy and full. The service was prompt and friendly. No waiting to order drinks or food which was nice (even though they had a large party) we didn't feel like a second class table. We will go again!

good Sushi in poco

We just moved from East van ( the land of cheap-good sushi) to poco. After trying all local sushi once this has become our go to place.

We have eaten here a few times and always been happy. On the weekends it is super busy but mid week is very quiet. It is a family run business and the kids help out as servers and busing tables.
The food is great and certainly comparable to our favs in the city, with some unique items on the menu. We try one new thing every time and have always been impressed. The sushi is fresh and good quality. The service is hit and miss depending on how busy it is but they are friendly and try hard.

I would recommend this place, it isn't the best sushi in all vancouver but certainly the best in poco!

I tried one more time here last Monday. Because of no choices in Coquitlam (copa close on monday) if u want a hk style food. Haha again waiting waiting
and waiting. I don't come to your restaurant if I'm not hungry. I standed at the door about 10 mins to get a table. Btw there was about 5 tables but no one clean it up, fine. Finally I got a table but I had to wait 15 more mins to get a menu..... Then wait 15 mins to order. I orderd a curry w/beef. Amazing the food came so fast after I order. About 2 mins. Wtf I had waited about 1 hour to get a pre- cooked or microwave food. Curry taste like milk more than curry. Also I order ice milk tea..... Again no taste at all. I will not come this dirty place again. Tables, floor, everything on the table are sticky. The washroom is terrible.

Hate to do it

Seeing as all the other reviews rave about this place, I hate to be negative. But I feel that the other reviews do not do not present a complete view of the place. You will spend money, beyond the price of admission. Its a bit like disney land where there are many ways to spend your money, after you have already paid $55 for admission. Drinks are 5-6$ at the cheapest or you can get better value for the 12-14 dollar 3 shot drinks in what they call "dam" size. That is a good value so that was a plus.

An annoying thing is that they add an automatic 20% gratuity. I did not pay so I am not sure if this was mandatory or not. This is sometimes understandable with a large party, however we were 3 only, and only buying alcohol.

The food portions were average size. Nothing to write home about and certainly the tables were not overflowing with breads or snacks as other posts seem to mention. Although the food was good, it was simple, which again, is a plus for some and a negative for others.

The show itself was hit and miss starting with a sketch portion with audience participation followed by musical entertainment. A good time if you are drinking for sure. The musical acts were quite good however and the staff really did seem like they had their hearts in it 100%! But again, you need to be into some politically incorrect jokes and lude stuff, however nothing worse than the stuff you see on saturday night live. Audience participation is extremely liberal and you can opt out of most of the contact with the actors if you so choose. It is very fun to interact with them though! The jokes would best be described as silly, and things to make you giggle. It is accurately named in that respect, and I think dam refers to your expression when you see the bill! Booya!

Overall it was a good experience, and I would most likely recommend it with the caveats above.

Horrible customer service!

We got take out and they messed up our order. We had to eat in a hurry as we were getting ready for a Christmas concert. We noticed they gave us tempora rolls instead of yam tempora and when we called them they argued with us that it was our mistake. They asked us to come to exchange and pay the difference; however we couldn't. We asked if we could get a credit for the following evening. After some arguing, they agreed. Moments later the woman called back and told us not to eat any of the tempora roll and to bring to back to them tomorrow. Although we had no intention of eating it (since no one likes it) we all agreed that this was a very strange request. What horrible service! And the food was only mediocre. There are plenty of other sushi places in Port Coquitlam so I advise you to avoid this one!

Inconsistency in the food quality, RUDE OWNER
By customerservicepolice of Port Coquitlam, B.C. (1 Review)

Consistency in the food quality and taste is not there – I live a block away from this place that is why I kept coming back. The owner (apparently his name is Ray Leung) sits in the front desk and he is a very rude man, rude to customers, rude to employees. This is very well documented in several reviews about this place and his owner.
He got angry at me because I found his soup too spicy and he wanted no accountability on it, he made a scene in front of his customers that were trying to enjoy their lunch, then called a cook and started raising his voice at him while speaking Chinese and pointing at me, this is not China, this is Canada and your customers deserve respect…
POCO is a friendly community full of nice little restaurants that want and appreciate my business, so I am done with this place.

I will never go to this place ever again.
I saw their kitchen and it is disgusting.
They use the same towels to wipe the counters to wipe their hands and they have food all over the place behind there. I also saw flies flying around.
Please don't go there it is disgusting.

I have been here again after a few years. Years ago, I have went with my family but during that trip, I was in a bad mood so I didn't eat anything. This time I went, I left feeling disappointed. The service was horrible and I felt very uncomfortable during the whole dinner. Everything was rushed and sometimes and I honestly did not enjoy this dinner. The food was decent but there are better places in that area that you can go to. Overall, I don't think I would go back again.

Wah Wing has been a restaurant that I have been going from when I was young. The food that they serve never fails to disappoint me and I leave everytime feeling immensely satisfied. Even after all these years, the servers are always so polite and welcoming and it creates such a great atmosphere for people to dine. Wah Wing is one of the few restaurants in Coquitlam that I love. The value of the food is not bad, it is quite good for a such a nice restaurant as their interior design is something worth admiring. Overall, Wah Wing is a place where I would suggest you go if you are craving for yummy Chinese food!

I used to take my family here about once a month for a burger and cool treats. Never had a real issue with the food it was always hot and decent.
The issues, sometimes I would wait in line for 20 minutes or more before ordering then another 15-20 minutes for my food. This was never during peak times. No drive through service, they would get more business and would help with the insane lineups. Not to many people eat in, and I understand why. Most tables are dirty and we usually have to clean our own before we sit. There are usually "street people" loitering in the washrooms or outside the 2 entrances. I have had several encounters with pushy pan handlers blocking and smoking at the exits. Several times there would be large groups of people smoking pot at the front entrance hardly moving for people trying to enter the restaurant. I have not been there in over a year and wont go back until they fix these problems.

Will never go there again
By foodbuff of Kelowna (5 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - 10:49pm [Dine in]

We went to IHOP for our son's birthday breakfast. He ordered chocolate pancakes. They were the worse tasting pancakes ever! I tried a bite and choked it down. Never knew you could screw up a pancake. My son barely could finish it either so he left a lot on the plate. It tasted so dry and tasted like you added cocoa to it. It would taste better if you added chocolate chips; melted to it. Then our adult breakfasts came in the size of child portion. We looked at each other and wondered if we would be full. The Egg Benedict was ok on my end. But didn't like the hash browns at all; they came in half burnt. My husband had the standard; eggs, sausage, and toast type of breakfast. Can't remember what he ordered. But it was in such small portion and very pricey; not worth the price. When we left; 2 hours later husband became so sick in his stomach from what he had for breakfast there. He felt like he ate a cup full of grease. Never again will eat there since it is in such small servings for a 8.99 breakfast which looks to be 3.99 worth. We left hungry. Service was also poor. The staff looked so bored and unhappy. Will never go back.

**correction..my husband reminded me he had the crepes and said they were terrible and he couldn't finish it as well and was sick afterwards from it.**

Best lamb shoulder in town
By topgun of Coquitlam (1 Review)

They have *the* best Lamb Shoulder Roast in the region. And it doesn't seem to be a one-off thing, I am hooked on their lamb take-outs after trying several times with same incredible results.
Same with their souvlaki. The bread, salad, and cheese always taste fresh and delicious. If you find the prices expensive, do a take-out and eat in the cozy confines of your home, saving tips/gas etc.
This is not a place for the touchy-feely, sensitive clients who are picky on service, aroma, noise, and other environmental attributes. If you are a foody, and value good greek food, this place is simply the best, at least east of Burnaby. Believe me, I have tried them all. The only place that comes close is the My Greek Taverna on Brunette.

Went here one Friday night with the husband and we didn't know that there would be a live band playing. They were called Naked Wednesday. I thought, "Oh great! We'll have to eat our meal with loud obnoxious music!", but to our surprise, we enjoyed it. The band consisted of 5 guys in their early 40's, who played modern music with a twist of rock. They catered to all genres of music...young and old would certainly enjoy them. Definitely, coming back here when they perform. Food here is cheap and good, drinks as well. I recommend the steak dinner on Fridays.

Had a family night out and haven't been to Sparta for a long time. I think our waitress was new and didn't know the full menu or the nightly specials. A drink accidentally got spilled on my son's pasta dinner. When the waitress came to see how our meal was, I told her about this incident she said can I drain the dish for you, I was stunned by this remark. I said no you can't drain it, its floating in chocolate milk. We were not offered another dinner or any discount of my son's meal. When the bill came I was stunned again that we were charged for the meal and pop refills, really. Will never go back to Sparta and people are amazed when I tell them what happened and that we weren't offered another meal. Word of mouth is the best business.

I came in on a whim awhile ago. The food was ok, but did not suit my tastes. I think I have been spoiled by the flavours of The Bombay, also in Port Coquitlam. The owner was very very nice and attentive.

As for the poster who mistakenly asked how someone who is vegetarian can make a meat dish, and an indian meat dish at that...for someone who probably likes food (clearly enough to post comments on food) I would assume they would be a bit more culinary educated. You will find that the majority of indian restaurants have vegetarians as cooks, this is due their religion and culture. I may also open your eyes to Vij's indian restaurant in Vancouver. They have consistently been called the best Indian food restaurant in North America, with a kitchen staff of all women and wait for it......all vegetarians.

It looks like this restaurant has undergone a facelift or new ownership. I wish it the best and hopefully the flavours improve. I will give it a second shot.

This is our neighbourhood restaurant and the food is really good. Recently, I was dining in and found a small little green caterpillar in my bowl. We didn't want to cause a scene and embarrass them so we waved the owner over and quietly told her about the bug while presenting it to her on my chopstick. She stared it, squinted at it and even pushed it around on a napkin and then denied that it was a caterpillar! We pointed out the fact that it was green with multiple legs and that it probably came from the vegetables. She still denied it and angrily walked to the kitchen and called her husband over. The husband came and examined the bug and ALSO denied it! He passed it off from everything from burnt food to part of a squid tentacle! I'm young with great eyesight and I've seen enough caterpillars and squids to be able to tell them apart. We asked for a new bowl and they agreed but LAUGHED at us for supposedly making a fuss out of nothing when their failing eye sights and ignorance clearly clouded their judgement in the examination of the bug! We felt like fools when we were right! Never again will we ever go back there! Such stubborn ignorant people!!

Working for the competition?

Submitted Thursday, September 13, 2012 - 9:04pm [Dine in]

I'm seriously surprised by the bad reviews below. They honestly must be working for the new bakery across the street. There's a reason Europe Bakery has been a mainstay of downtown Port Coquitlam for 30 years. It's got solid baked goods.

And it's actually a bakery too... the stuff is baked in-store nice and fresh. The pastries are sooooo good. The lunch sandwiches are good value and made with fresh ingredients. Their prices are from 30 years ago too, which means stuff isn't overpriced like those new "hip" bakeries that sell $7 cupcakes.

If I have one complaint, it's that the inside of the store looks a little out-of-date. That's hardly enough to warrant a one-star review. This place is quality. The urbanspoon reviews, with a 97% favourable rating, are far more accurate than the reviews below.
