Port Coquitlam Restaurant Reviews
Deer Garden Restaurant3610 Westwood Street, Port Coquitlam
Quite possibly the best restaurant ever.

We used to call this place our family restaurant, since we would visit at least once every 1-2 weeks (for over 10 years). Since we moved to Vancouver, we haven't been to Deer Garden in a while, but we still have very fond memories!!

You absolutely cannot go wrong here! We have probably tried everything on the menu ;)
The portions are large, and the food tastes incredible. Our favourites include the hai-nan chicken, curry beef, spicy pork, king crab, fish, and any one of their tofu dishes.
Both the dinner and lunch menus are impressive! The place is usually packed on weekends, and you'll definitely have to reserve for special occasions.

The servers are quick and efficient, and the food comes to the table incredibly quickly.

To be honest, Deer Garden isn't aiming to be the trendiest restaurant. There are no fancy decorations and that sort of thing, but the food is great!

Hear the review from someone that is East Indian, me!

My wife and I went here a few weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon. We were curious to try the new Indian place in Poco. I thought the decore inside was rather dull and the drapes were really gaudy.

We ordered samosas, veggie and chicken. The veggie ones were OK, but the chicken ones had meat in them that was rather dry. There was not much taste to them either.

My wife had a veggie main dish which she really liked. I had mixed grill. I was looking quite forward to it. The mixed grill literally came out a mixed grill. All the meats were pilled up on each other and everything was mixed up like a curry. I tasted the chicken and it was bland and dry. I then moved over to the lamb. I almost threw up as it was so dry and tasted horrible. I asked the manager to take it back. She agreed the lamb was very dry as she pulled it apart in the kitchen.

Oddly enough the manager/owner here is a vegetarian so how can she assess how good the food is. I would only come back here to eat veggie food and nothing else! Eat the meat dishes with your own peril!

Disappointing Indian Currey
By maggielee of port coquitlam (2 Reviews)

In my opinion, it's difficult to find authentic indian currey in the lower mainland. One has to drive into the city. I was really disappointed in the butter chicken - all I could taste was tomato paste which overpowered the spices. As well, the chai tea was quite bland and had no spicy flavour.
So, I'll give this restaurant a miss in future.

I came here for dinner. The ginger beef is good as well the spicy green bean. Overall everything is good and recommended. It was my friend's birthday. The most impressive thing was the waiter who came out and sang for us providing a comfortable environment. Great job! I'll definitely come back.

My husband has been telling me about this great sushi place near his work that he just loves.
So the other day me and our new baby went to meet him for lunch. The lunch specials are great. We had the sushi salad, it comes with miso soup, the salad is full of sashimi, veggies, rice and a great dressing Then the bring you a plate of chef specials around 5 things. After you finish that they bring out some fruit to finish your meal. All of this for $8.
There is japanese pop music playing in the back ground, the waitress is not intrussive and the food was great.
I am planning to take my mom and sister there soon.

I come out here and have pizza a LOT with my sister and her family. They are well known there and we feel like family when we walk in. This restaurant in actually in PORT Coquitlam, not Coquitlam.

Some people complain about the prices and they are higher than those cheap chain pizza places for a reason. Everything is fresh and top quality! The crust is amazing, thin, crispy and way better than those dough beds other pizza joints use. They have amazing combos and if you order a 4 or more topping pizza, you could have every sigle topping in the place on it and it would not cost any more! The staff is superfriendly and efficient and teh restaurant and pizza reminds me of going to Shakey's pizza as a kid. Great food, awesome fireplace, retro memories and the game's always on too. WInner combo!

First time we tried this place on Saturday night - Hockey night

My wife and I tried this place the first time. We got here 6.45pm, just before the hockey game and there was literally one table left. TV screen are everywhere so you get a good view of the game if you are into that.

Despite being really busy service was quick and attentive. We had hot wings to start with and they were really nice. My wife had a beef sandwich for main and I had beef quesadillas. They were not that spicy as I had hoped but they were not bad either. My wife took her leftovers home and had it the next day.

There were beer specials on Saturday night which was good. I would certainly go back here.

Best Japanese restaurant in tri-cities

I've been to lots of Japanese restaurants in tri-cities but Sushi Shelter just became my favorite Japanese restaurant.
When I read good reviews about Sushi shelter in dinehere.ca, I decided to give them a try and I visited there with my girlfriend 3 weeks ago.
I was having some difficult time to find the restaurant because it was located in kind of odd place.
Anyways, we ordered couple of fusion rolls(one of them was snoopy roll), croquette and sashimi melody and foods were amazaing!
Both rolls we ordered were very unique. My girlfriend especially loved snoopy roll.
Sashimi melody was really fresh and big portion!
We also had some complimentary and they were also great.
The presentation of the food was also very cute.
The service was very friendly too.
Since then, I already visited there 2 times more and I was always happy.

I highly recommend this restaurant and I think everyone will love this place.

I went in for a quick lunch alone and did not feel out of place at all. THe menu was varied, good combos and service was good. The sushi was very fresh and delicious! The seaweed for some reason seemed a bit chewy though and I've not expeienced that before. But all in all it was a good reasonably priced lunch. However, the music was too loud and it was weird having rock music in a sushi place. I would definately go back.

Found this hidden gem from reading the positive reviews here on dinehere. We were craving for some guaranteed yummy Indian food the other day but didn't want to drive too far. Then we discovered this restaurant.
Their curries were delicious and actually spicy! We always order medium but can never taste the spiciness but this time, we almost couldn't handle the heat! It was very flavorful and there were generous amount of meat. The naan bread was soft, thin and average sized (of 2 palms).
The service was amazing. Our server was a pretty young Indian lady and she took our orders without writing it down. She and this other man (possible the owner) were asking us how we were doing almost every 15mins. It wasn't too invasive and it was kinda nice and interesting. Our waters were constantly being filled.
Their tone of voice over the phone was equally friendly also.
Everything went well that night and we'll definitely be going back soon!

I love the Gillnetter. It's a consistant, easy-going place to hang out and enjoy a pint. There are very limited choices for places like this in my neighbourhood, so I gladly travel to PoCo for the Gillnetter. My favourite aspect of this bar is the boat dock, as it makes for a fantastic day to float up the river, grab lunch, and head home. Prices here are decent, as you can get a good pint for under 5$, and the half-priced appies on weekdays provide great value. Service can be slow, but it is always pleasant.

The most delicious roast lamb you'll ever taste....

I LOVE this restaurant - it is the best Greek cuisine I have ever experienced. On the appy side I recommend the: Manitaria (mushrooms), Greek chicken soup (a perfect balance of chicken with lemon) and the Kalamari.

Above and beyond all - I highly recommend the house specialty Arni Psito (slow roasted lamb shoulder) - it is amazingly tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. Seriously, it is absolutely to die for! Amazing....

Service has always been excellent - the owner/hostess has a wonderful, energetic personality - she always has a beautiful smile and provides all of her customers with the royal treatment.

2 thumbs up!

I have been going this this little Donair shop for many years. When i lived in Maple Ridge, i would drive all the way to Poco just for the Donair. The best chicken donair in town by far. The lamb is pretty good too. Carribean and lebanese are my favorite flavours. Fresh ingredients, and a generous portion of meat with tasty sauces to tantalize your taste buds. Yes it can be quite messy to eat so you will need some extra napkins, but it's worth it.

A great little pizzaria with amazing pizzas. Their pizzas are healthy and hearty, they don't go cheap on the toppings like so many other pizza joints. The generous portions are so big i would be amazed if someone could eat 3 slices. Two slices and i am stuffed to the hilt. They have very nice desserts and the service is friendly. You definitly must try their pizza! You will be amazed.

Friendly and helpful waitresses, food is nothing special

Steaks and appitizers are okay but ribs and chicken are mediocre at best. The tandori chicken is very spicy in the Chicken/Rib combo, and there was nothing in the menu to warn patrons about it. The wine selection is okay, but prices very affordable. Most of the wines are $30-33, while one of the wines cost $25.99 at liquor store!! The most expensive wine was 05 Osoyoo Larose grand vin at $65. ($45 retail). I 've never seen markup below 100% at restaurants.

All the waitresses are very friendly and helpful with selctions. I am satisfied overall, but won't go back anytime soon because there are much better food around the block.

The Pho here is great, just great! Noodles are cooked perfectly and the broth is fantastic!

We have the prawn rolls for an appy and they were very tasty...

One note that blew me away was the cleanliness... I noticed that our table's condiments: hot sauce, hoisin, slat, pepper, and chilli in oil, that all looked sparkling CLEAN... Like, they looked brand new, no finger prints even... They must thoroughly clean them several times a day... I looked at the other tables and they were just as CLEAN, the whole restaurant was... I hope this is a regular thing and that I didn't catch them after a spring cleaning day, cause I was IMPRESSED!

The service was prompt and very friendly...

I had an iced Vietnamese Coffee with Condensed milk, and it was perfect!

I gave a 4 for ambiance not because of the decor or layout, but due to the extreme clean condition. The decor, furniture and layout are standard and adequate for your regular Pho place.

We will be back again and again...

Delicious Dim Sum
By tbcookie of Maple Ridge (3 Reviews)
Submitted Monday, March 22, 2010 - 5:43pm [Dine in]

My husband and I have visited Rainbow Butterfly roughly 5 - 7 times through 2009/2010, with our most recent visit being today.

The food is YUM. We have ordered and enjoyed the following items: steamed shrimp dumplings; steamed shimp and spinach dumplings; pan fried shrimp and chive dumplings; gailan with oyster sauce; rice wrap (or roll?) with three kinds of mushroom -- (my personal favourite!); eggplant, tofu, and peppers stuffed with fish paste; seafood and pumpkin dumplings; Shanghai pork dumplings; and another type of pork dumpling that my husband really enjoys, but whose name I have forgotten.

There was only one time when I experienced something unpleasant during one of our visits, and that was a very slightly musty/moldy flavour to a bit of pumpkin in one bite of a seafood and pumpkin dumpling. I was a bit put off, but got over it, and have had nothing but positive experiences before and since.

As for the service, the folks at Rainbow Butterfly must have read the less than positive comments from other reviewers, because we have never experienced poor service. The person who we believe must be the owner, is always friendly and keeping an eye on things, the wait staff pick up the order forms quickly, and pick up empty dishes promptly. I admit that we were unsure when we went for the first time if we were going to feel welcome or if there was going to be a language barrier, as it seemed that most of the patrons and all of the staff were asian and conversing in another language, but this wasn't an issue. On the occassions when we would ask a staff member who didn't understand English well, that person who seek out another staff member who was fluent in English to assist us, and we appreciated that.

We have also always felt that the value of the food for our money was very good. We choose, on average, 6-7 dishes, including one or two "chef's selections" which are the slightly pricier items on the menu, and our bill has always been under $30. I would say it has always been between $23 and $28 before the tip.

We love going to Rainbow Butterfly for dim sum and look forward to our next visit.

It is usually full on the weekends so you can expect a wait. The girls who work there are always very pleasant.
