Saw the great reviews for this place on this website, so my husband and I decided to give it a try with our Entertainment Book coupon. It was a little hard to find, and you would miss it if you were paying attention because it's tucked kind of at the back on the far side of Save-On-Foods.
Love the decor on the inside, very unique, kind of like being in Europe.
I ordered the lamp chops and my husband ordered the steak, and we had the calamari appy to share. The calamari was quite fishy, I could smell it the moment it was brought to the table. The calamari was a little soggy and very greasy, and too salty. It was alright, but we wouldn't order it again. However, everything else was quite nice, especially the pita bread - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
My order of lamb chops was quite nicely done, slightly on the salty side, but the meat was very moist. The green beans was a little overdone, but that was compensated by the perfectly done rice. Probably the best rice I've had at a Greek restaurant!
Great price (even without the coupon), and great food. Would definitely come back again, but perhaps just stay away from the calamari.
I visited this place based on a friend's recommendation. He told me this was a really weird place, then I decided to come check it out with my gf. Am I glad to find this place? however, it took me half an hour to find it though.
It is a tiny restaurant so I didn't expect too much. only five tables, but when we got there it was packed. waited for 15 mins and got seated. Based on the waitress' recommendation as a first time comer, we got spicy sashimi salad, the handmade ebi gyoza, volcano roll (not on the menu but definitely got to get it! the visual effect is totally worth it) assorted tempura and SPiCY AGEDASHI TOFU !!! OMG that tofu is phenominal........I have never tasted spicy tofu this amazing. Its hard to describe to you but that is why you have got to try it yourself.
oh this restaurant is really different, we got two complimentary dishes- scallop and something really cool but cant remember the name.
The presentation is what made every dish more tasty. The chefs are truly artists. every dish has different style and color. It satisfied your eyes as well as your stomache.
The service is friendly. Our tea and water were never empty. When we needed help ordering, they were really helpful to give good suggestions (which I doubt any of the dishes could go wrong). smiles seem to be never ending for them too. Give us more pleasant feelings througout the meal.
The decor is different and we reallly like the type of music they played there. Jazzy and Japanese mixed together.
But I think they really need to get more seatings and more privacy for the table. I had seem people waiting outside for half an hour for a table which would be the downside.
Values are reasonable. Not too cheap nor expensive on the average side. Really depend what you order. Our bill came to 40 something. and some to take home.
Overall I am really glad my friend recommended to us. We will for sure be back (but reservation is neccesary ).
Just popped in a quick burger and fries and too my disgust I find the worse eatery that I have ever seen. While the staff were friendly I regret to report that this poor excuse for a Dairy Queen was unclean and poorly staffed. After waiting for 10 minutes to place my order for what was considered to be fast food, I was happy to see that my meal was as advertised cooked and still piping hot and relatively quickly.
Unfortunately, they receive a failing grade from me as to be frank, the lettuce on the burger was rotting and the tomato was losing its skin. Fresh ingredients these were not. The bun was stale as was the atmosphere of the aging location. While the price was right for a quick burger and fries, I would have to say that I felt cheated when I opened my meal.
Regardless of the new menu, Dairy Queen should step up the in-store QA in there franchises. This has insured that a once firm believer in Dairy Queen never returns.
If you remember one of the chefs from the now closed Maji Sushi, he now owns his own restaurant and is the head chef here. He's brought his passion for food and established this restaurant as one of THE best in the area.
Incredible! The presentation is always spot on. Basically a feast for the eyes before you get to devour the food (And devour them you certainly will!) The flavours will explode in your mouth and you will be amazed. Some favourites include the snoopy roll, the salmon sashimi and the toro tataki. The chef is always hard at work trying to create new types of rolls and other foods, and they all taste amazing. Their Lamb rolls is very good as well!
The waitresses here are always fantastic, they are always on the ball. Super friendly and will remember you after a few times going there. I'm pretty sure if you told them your name they'd remember it as well. This place has some of the best service of any restaurant i've been to.
You definitely get what you pay for. I'd say you can probably be full for about $25-30 depending on what you order. Certainly there are variations in menu item pricing, but the value is always there. They've also recently gotten their alcohol license, which is a huge plus!
The deco is slightly a mush of modern and retro. Think of the fallout computer game series, and half the restaurant seems like an underground 'shelter' of sorts. Upon entering, the specials of the day are listed, along with pictures of many people that have visited the restaurant. There are about 6 tables or so as well a few stools, its not a very large place, but good enough.
I try to get over here every few months, as it is a fair drive. I've had a birthday party (for aprx 20 guests) here as well, and i've never been disappointed by the food or anything else here. If you love Japanese food, you have GOT TO try this restaurant out. I've taken friends, family, coworkers here and they all rave about how fantastic the food is, and how this is the best Japanese food they've ever had. The only reason why it might not always be full is that it is sort of in the middle of nowhere.
This small (family/friend) owned restuarant is kind of tucked away but if you find it like my family and I were recently lucky enough to, you will NOT be disapointed!
The food is amazing to start, my favorites are the Gomae roll, 101 house salad and the tariyaki!!
Being a vagatarian but also Japanese cuisine lover I really appreciate all the delicious options that are avialable for me :) My family however love sushi and they rave about the Snoopy roll and the sashimi.
Very fresh and always beautifully presented, a feast for the eyes as well as the palatte!!
You can tell the chef is passionate about serving good, healthy and fresh food and is very creative and innovative with the presentation of it!
The 2 waitresses at the restuarant are very charming and friendly. My husband and I weresuprised (pleasantly) when they recognized me on my 3rd visit and remembered that I was a vegatarian, eventhough I never told them I was, just simply ordered non-seafood or meat dishes?!
The decor of the restuarant is casual and kind of funky, with interesting pictures, quotes and items displayed. Also the wall of pictures (friends or guests?) at the entrance gives you kind of a "welcome to the family" sort of feeling right away when you walk in.
Overall my husband, daughter and I find the overall dining experience great and when we get a craving for sushi we always opt to drive to Sushi Shelter despite having 2 other pretty good sushi restuarants within walking distance of our house.
have ordered from here about ten times in the last two years. Solid little restraunt with great food. I would give it a 5 for food but I feel there could be more meat in some of the dishes.
food comes quick and yes, it can be busy at times but it can also be dead more often. as far as i am concerned this is the best asian food in all of poco.
We were in POCO Wednesday evening and hubby said that his brother gave the place a big thumbs up. I'm going to stop going to restaurants that my brother-in-law recommends.
We weren't extremely hungry so we just had 2 dishes and rice. Prawns in black bean sauce were lacking in flavour. The prawns were so bland and very unappealing. Beef and broccoli was mostly broccoli and not much beef. The beef that was used was a very poor quality beef.
The ambiance is very nice but when I go out to eat the food is number 1 and Wah Wing definitely does not deliver as far as food quality. Service was decent not outstanding. One thing I did find towards the end of our meal while my husband was still eating the waitress came and stood by our table and watched, she then took just a small step away but continued watching us (pressures on to hurry up and eat). As soon as my husband put his chopsticks down she swooped right in and cleared the table. I thought it was really rude especially since there was only one other table there.
There are way better restaurants around. For what we had I felt it was overpriced.
I hadn't been to the cat in a couple of years but a friend told me there was a new chef and the food was great so I thought why not.WoW the food is maybe the best pub food in the province(at least for the ones I've tried)
I spend my free time in the summer riding my bike and I wouldn't even begin to guess at how many pubs I've eaten at but every time I go for a ride I make a point of finding a pub for lunch and I've been doing this since 1981 so I've ridden the mainland, sunshine coast and island from end to end several times over and the Cat has the best food I've had at a pub for many years.I've been there 3 times now and each time fantastic. The last time I was there they said they're putting in a new menu that their new chef has planned.I can see there's going to be more than a few rides out to Golden Ears and the Dewdney Trunk Rd thru Port Co. in my future, all I need now is some weather as good as the food.............................
We often order pick up meals from Bombay. I always order the Lamb Korma, medium spicy, It is DELICIOUS! They are generous with the protein in the meal and I have never been disappointed with the flavour. Their pricing is a little up there compared to a lot of Indian restaurants but I have no trouble paying for quality food.
The decor inside the restaurant is plain and I cannot comment on the service as I have only ever taken the food to go.
This is a regular restarant that we go to becuase the food is pretty decent, and it's the only chinese restuarant that's close to our area. I went yesterday (dragon boat festival), and the service was horrible.
1. we made reservation for 7:30, and we still have to wait till 7:45 (sitted with nothing on the table). There was a table at 7:30, but no one bother to clean it up so we can sit. This wasn't new, as reservation have no meaning in that restaurant. We had to remind the waitress a couple of time that we are waiting.
2. ordering was slow. we got our menus and no one came and ask if we were ready to order. we had to call them. same as re-fill for tea (they gave us a pot instead).
3. when our food came, the soup didn't come. Soup ususally comes first thing. When we ask, that gave us soup and didn't serve it, just put it on a table. It was some sort of left over pork soup with meat all broken up. Gross.
4. when we finish, we had to flag the waitress a couple of time before they heard us askign for our bill.
I was NOT impress with the service.
Will only go back there if we have to.
very sad that a mom and pop style deli does not appreciate a potential customers business....they are very rude ...they used to be a nice deli but could not care less on whether yo shop there or not..they are going to have a rude awakening when the inno bakery and deli opens up next door to them next month.. by that time it will be too late as i am sure that previous custmers are not going back to the polonia deli...
My wife and I just came from the Wah Wing Restaurant. We're pretty new to the hood....but one thing we've noticed is that Poco has an abundance of eateries. The wife was craving some Chinese food so we thought we'd try this place out.
The Service was excellent....I am not a Chinese food conneseiur. I ordered a chow mein dish which was not what I had envisioned. When it arrived I explained my ordering error to the server and asked to order another dish (willing to pay for this mistake dish of course). The server was nice about it, explained that we should order this other dish instead, and then took the plate away to return 10 mins later with my vision of a Chow Mein dish.
The food was great, We ordered Sweet and Sour Pork, Hot and Sour Soup, and the Chicken Chow Mein dish modified with soy sauce. Our bill was about $30 and there were enough leftovers for both our lunches tomorrow. The best part.....they didn't charge us for the mistake Chow Mein dish. One thing that stuck out on the bill was my can of Ice Tea which cost $2.75....thats a bit steep for a can of Nestle Ice Tea even if it is lemon flavored and has no preservatives.
The ambiance was surprisingly nice...from the outside you don't think much about this place. Once inside you can appreciate the decor and the mirrors really make this place feel bigger than it is. I've eaten in enough dives to know a good thing when I see it.......it looked very clean, and the staff seemed to genuinely care about our dining experience.
For two people, I would suggest the small offerring of Hot and Sour soup, the bowl was massive and could have easily fed 4-5 people.
I would definitely go back.
My girlfriend recently discovered this place with her sister and they loved it so she took me to this place. The flavor is very well done as you can add as much or little flavor as you want. The dishes can be piled up with your favorite ingredients; from chicken, pork, beef, or lamb, and vegetables. The waitress then brings the plate to you when it is done being cooked with a bowl of rice and some soup. I thought the place was clean and the service was delightful. Have a great day at King Mongolian Grill.
I visited the Gillnetter awhile ago and just didn't like the food. Fortunately, I gave it a second chance and the food actually turned out to be not just good but actually pretty great.
The view is amazing and I would say that this place has one of the best patios in Vancouver. Unfortunately, the service was kind of poor - again, I think it was just a bad night.
I'd give it a second shot - try the seafood pasta it was really good! Also, the patio over looks the Fraser river - it is a great view on a summer evening.
I used to buy pizza from these guys all the time. It was my favorite spot but over the last few months, they've gone from delivering quality to garbage. The last 3 times I ordered from these guys, the pizza's were nothing but bread, it had very little cheese, very little sauce and just a few of the toppings I had ordered. I gave them 3 chances to improve their quality, but nothing happened. So I've gone out of my way to register and create an account on here to let others know that if you don't want to be disappointed in your pizza, then I would not recommend ordering from this pizza joint.
We have got take out from here a couple of times now. All I can say is the quality and taste of the food here is exceptional. Their spicy wontons in peanut sauce are to die for. Their ginger beef is just as good. Whilst we sat and waited for our take out we did notice we were well attended to. You can't go wrong with this Szechuan food. 10% off your bill if you pick your food up.
We eat falafels alot. We do not eat falafels from this place every again. My husband Gagged literally on his, choked and then vomitted. He said there was something large and hard in it. We did not search to see what it was.
Other than that for $5 each you get a microwaved falafel with iceberg lettuce, tomato and some bottled sauce. We asked for one falfel hot and one med hot. Got one hot one not hot - spice that is, as both were ICe COld inside. YUK.
The place is seriously filthy and the staff do not look like they bathe. This place is nasty.
We'd been looking for a while for a good breakfast place in Poco. Went to a couple places that were ok, then we found KC's. It's now our 'go-to' weekend breakfast spot. It's family run, with very friendly service. Always chatty and personal, they remember who you are. The food is great too. They have everything you could think of for breakfast and it's cooked just right.
I've been here once after I heard about it from friends:
Pros: View is great - fun on the inside - I bet this place would be great during Christmas or Halloween - good party feel.
Unfortunately, the food was a bit bland and they served spinach dip with stale chips. Maybe it was a bad day and I'd give it another try. I had the ribs which tasted like they were a bit old and just had a whole bunch of bbq sauce on them - It wasn't as bad as I make it sound, i'd try it again.
Staff was warm and friendly though. Great beer selection on tap.
ate at this new place last night. We were greeted very warmly at the door and seated right away. Comfy booth seating around the restaurant that they seem to fill up first with tables in the middle. Dark wood floors and very clean with a lovely bar area and metal ceiling accent. Value for the price is very good and the service is friendly and not pushy. They have lots of different food options. Seafood souvalaki read very well, but I decided to have the steak and lasagna (with most of the lasagna going home with me). Great choice! It was served at the right degree with a nice amount of caesar salad and garlic bread well presented all together on large square plates. The lasagna could have been a little warmer as by the time I got to it after enjoying the salad and bread, the cheese was no longer melted, but this was fine. The lasagna flavour is excellent with a lovely meaty sauce and spinach. My friend had the chicken marsala which he really enjoyed as well. His drink was refilled without having to ask so we appreciated the level of attention that we received. The desserts read really well on the menu, but we were too full so will try them next time. Will definately be back especially because of the quality of food for the price as our total came to only $40 and they also provide delivery and take out which is wonderful.
