Wilbur & Sabastian's is located in a new much bigger spot in Oxford Market Along with the new location the menu has been expanded but the focus is still on serving honest, homemade, contemporary slow food. Their BBQ'd meat are marinate in apple cider and a signature rub and slow cooked and smoked for hours.
Just the kind of place Poco needed. Too bad it's in a strip mall - the ambiance is ok - but sparse and looking over the parking lot is not inspiring. The waitress that we had was ok but not all that friendly. BUT, the food makes up for it all. The veggie burger was amazing and they make their own potato chips! Not often do you get hot potato chips. The stoups were fantastic as well and the desserts although we didn't try them looked great. We will be back to try the other menu items. Main Street quality funk hits Poco.
The menu choices are not bad and they offer a lot of gluten, soy, dairy choices as well as ribs. The prices were reasonable. In spite of this, we were not impressed. The ambiance was cold and not cozy at all, not helped by the temperature that was freezing. Every table had their coats on.
The food was just ok. We ordered pork and beef ribs to share, but all the food was lukewarm and the sides had no flavor. I was excited to have their smokey molasses baked beans which they serve as a side. In addition to being cold, they were flavorless and watery. The coleslaw also had very little dressing, so it was dry. The ribs themselves were tasty, but not hot. On a good note, we thought the home-made tortilla chips were good and my husband said that the cornbread was good (although served cold), but be warned that it does have wheat in it.
I had intended to come back to try many other items on the menu because I am a gluten-free eater and I appreciated the effort in that area. However, I did not have a good experience and I will not be back.
This place is new to Poco, they move from Central Coquitlam because they needed a bigger location. But this restaurant is wonderful family run Bistro, and everything is homemade with a focus on using local ingredients. I am a Vegetarian and my husband is a die hard Meat-Eater. It is so hard to find a location that we can both have multiple menu options. Not only does this place offer several Vegetarian meals it also has Wheat and Dairy Free options and several Vegan meals as well. But on the swing side, my husband says their ribs are amazing! He has had both the Pork and Beef Ribs and says they are equally delicious. My husband is determined to try all their BBQ sauce options as well. He has tried several BBQ flavors so far and claims the Tequila BBQ sauce is his favorite. If you enjoy home-cooked food, good quality and value for your money, give this place a try. You will not regret it!
