I don't know how many bad reviews I 've put up here. Better question is why do I go back. It's never my choice to go here, but next time people insist I will seriously sit in my car in the parking lot and wait.
THe service is terrible and SLOW- especially to get your bill which does come in handy in calculating the ever decreasing tip. The waitress brought hte kids the wrong drinks and my husband the wrong beer. My sons' milkshake that was ordered with the drinks came when he was half way through his dinner even though we inquired about it twice. No apolgy. I ordered a special burger, but I asked for a veggie patty not a beef one. IT was to have blue cheese and crispy onions on it. When I got it, it tasted only like some blue cheese dressing was put on it and there were no crispy onions. I asked where they were and the waitress said "oh we don't have any today" Well when that is one of the major compnents of the "special " burger, you think I'd be told first. I told here if I"d known that I'd have changed my order. She looked stupefied.
THe desserts are no longer special here and must be prefab. The sticky toffee pudding was neither sticky nor did it have any "toffee". It was white bread nuked in a dish with TONS of undercooked apples, a little custard and some jarred caramel sauce. It was gross.
When the bill came I asked my waitress why they'd charge me $1.50 more to change the beef patty to veggie, but they didn't take anything OFF the bill when my burger came with no crispy onions. Again she looked stupfied.
This chain better shake its head and wake up. I for one will shed no sentimental tears when White SPot goes out of business.
I was in a hurry so when the server brought me lunch I asked for the bill. I waited & waited even raising my hands. Finally she got the message ten minutes later but really didn't care. I frequent many of the various White Spot locations and find this is the most inconsistent I don't really care for the ambience of this restaurant compared with the other White Spots.
I've tried this White Spot location about 1/2 dozen times since moving to Poco 2 years ago. Each time I want to like them, really I do...but usually the service let's me down and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The most recent time, i went there with my wife and son for dinner. The restaurant was fairly full and we were seated in the upper level of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is actually quite nice and cozy. For whatever reason, they had the heat cranking in my section, it was like being in a sauna. I didn't say anything until later, but I usually get hot when eating, but even my wife said the heat was stiffling in there.
This time, service was pretty good. It was the food that let me down. I order the large bacon cheese burger, with fries. The burger was okay, the fries were cold and raw in some spots and sticking to each other. The normally good cole slaw was swimming in mayonnaise and barely edible. We had already waited for 30 minutes to get our food, so I just let it go and didn't send it back.
Other times we have been ignored for 10 minutes waiting at the front to be seated in an empty restaurant. Another time our table of 2 was ignored, even though we were seated first and clearly ready to order, over a table of 8, with 4 adults and 4 screaming kids running around, and the waitress standing there for 15 minutes trying to take their order, when they hadn't even decided what they wanted yet. Rather than just leaving them for another minute to take our order and place it into the kitchen so we didn't have to wait the extra time. You would think that this is common sense, but the wait staff that that particular location tends to hire on looks rather than the ability to serve, which is too bad. If you want to eat at White Spot and live in the tri-cities area, avoid this location and go to the one near Sunwood Square, service is much more attentive and I've never had a bad meal there.
This White Spot is truly the best one around. My husband and I have been to almost every White Spot in the Lower Mainland at some point or another ( as it is our favorite restaurant ) and this location surpasses all of them.
We've always chosen to go at odd times to avoid the line-ups and therefore have rarely waited for a seat (even on Valentine's Day). The staff are a little young and unexperienced, but they make up for it with enthusiasm and sincerity.
The food here is incredible, and the reason this is our favorite go to place is for the Caesar salad and their sweet potato fries. Yum! I also recommend the Blackened Cajun chicken, the chipotle chicken wrap, the BC chicken burger and the chicken quesadilla ( I don't eat beef, so I can't offer any recommendations ) Also, if you're a tea drinker, try the Vanilla Bean tea.
I'm not the only person that thinks this location is the best; my parents agree that this White Spot is better than the rest, and even drive out from Langley to enjoy a meal. Even with groups of 6, waiting for a table never takes more than a few minutes.
The prices are very reasonable, and with 2 people having a meal and drinks, the bill is rarely over $35 with tip and taxes. For all of these reasons and more, this is why this White Spot is our favorite restaurant, both for a quick meal out, and occasionally a celebration.
I tend to crave fish and chips from time to time and for whatever reason it seems to happen when C-Lovers is closed, so we have this location just down the road from us and I will put in an order for pick-up. I realize this is tempura batter on the outside and it does require more care than a lot of these doughy batters. It really is nice to see when you get home that they should have pulled it out the atleast one minute earlier and it is sooo overcooked it doesn't even resemble fish anymore. So I call and explain and they say we will make another so I go back and exchange and get home and to my suprise they are no better. This batch has the normal golden brown colour on about 25% and the rest is brown as stained mahogany, well this phone call did not go as pleasent, please understand I am not trying to get a meal compt. They must think I have nothing better to do at lunch exceptt for driving around, I told the person on the phone that they were running the oil probubly a little too high for tempura batter. So they finally got it right on the third try, my question being if this was to be served in their dining room would they send that out to a table? Maybe they went close enough for take out and hoped that the person only had a little time for lunch and wouldn't complain. Their fish and chips had to be returned once before this also.
I ordered a quesadillas for dinner a few months back and after eating 3/4 of it I came across a label on the underside of the tortilla. It was the expiry label. IT HAD EXPIRED 2 DAYS EARLIER. The manager wouldn't even come out to talk to me but sent free icecream. I've never been back.
