A very nice moderate deco Chinese restaurant in Port Coquitlam. With my kids for dinner, very friendly server greet us. Very clean with typical Chinese restaurant ambient. The menus maybe needs updating but easy to understand not to many items as most typical Chinese restaurant. We ordered pre set menu for $9 for 3 items on one order. One thing good about it you can chose any item you want, not like you cannot change the set like some restaurant. And the portions really generous. Overall it was worth it and we definitely coming back.
What a blast! Went there while visitinig a friend who lives nearby. Walked in an found restaurant busy but not full, with basic tables and the traditional portable type buffet table. This reminded me of the Dragon Inn in Burnaby that I used to go to as a small child. The price for the smogasboard was ten something for adults and 85 cents per year for kids. Great value.
The had hot and sour and wonton soup with sliced green onion to put on it. Then there was noodles, fried rice, stir fried veggies with tons of broccoli in them(my fav) some kind of meat and veggies in black bean sauce, deep fried pork, chicken wings, deep fried wontons, and deep fried prawns!!!! Dessert was fresh fruit, cantaloupe and watermelon, some cake and 2 colours of jello. Waitress brought me a big free bowl of sweet and sour sauce when asked. Waitresses were fast, efficient and friendly even asking how everything was when we left and expressing gratitude when I told her how good it was. Quite unexpected in a place like this.
Exactly what you'd expect and for the price I was stuffed when I left. I think I ate more than my money;s worth in prawns! All of the food was hot and fresh, being quickly replenished often, It was so cool, retro and small town - I loved it. For what it is, it is the best!
I had read the reviews so knew that I would be eating 'Canadian style from the 70's' type of food. The decor was better than I anticipated, quite a few tables, pretty clean although bland in decor, and there were quite a few people on staff. We were warmly greeted. The smogasbord could use a few more entree items. There were two soups which I tried both of and both were good; although a little strange to have spaghetti type noodles in the won ton soup. The entrees consist of french fries (I guess kids like these), two types of deep fried chicken wings (one with spices added), deep fried wontons (see the trend here), fried rice, flavourless fried noodle chowmein, deep fried ginger pork, deep fried sweet and sour pork, deep fried shrimp, and mixed veg. It was all nice and hot, but not much flavour. Nice to have fresh fruit for dessert as well as oh so chinese banana cream tarts and jello along with the fortune cookies. For only $12 each, value was good, but too much grease.
Ordered from "Sky Dragon" for the first time tonight while dogsitting. This is absolutely the worst chinese food I have ever had. We ordered combination dinners, eggrolls and crispy wonton. The food was cold, slimy and completely lacking in any sort of flavour or seasoning and the chow mein had chopped chicken loaf on it. How low budget can you get. I've had better chinese food at the mall. Also the eggrolls were iffy, couldn't determine what was in them, some sort of meat? Yuk! I really love chinese takeout and this has spoiled it for a while.
This is REAl Chinese food. The kind I grew up on. None of this weird dim sum or chicken feet and only recognizable vegetables. Many items are battered and deep fried and served with that yummy cornstach and red food colour sweet and sour sauce. YUM! This is exactly what we ordered when I was a kid. This is Chinese comfort food!
I always order the sweet and sour deep fried prawns - once the entire box is gone I sigh and move on. Then, I have a whole container of just stir fried broccoli. All broccoli in the world should come here to be turned into ambrosia. Some mushroom fried rice, perhaps a yummy noodly chow mein and I am in a grease induced coma. Nirvana. Don't forget the fortune cookies - you have to ask.
Best part is, if you want the full retro experience come for the buffet - or rather "chinese smorgasbord" - welcome back 1972! Have your fill of Chinese food with a burger and side of fries! SPectacular!!!!
Food is always good quality Service is better than almost any around friendly just needs a coat of Paint building is much but the food and service make up for it. Anytime I'm in the area I pop in especially on weekends for the Smorg. Their take out and delivery is also very good I have never had a bad meal from them.
i was recommended this restaurant by a former co-worker of mine. she stated that this was her favourite chinese restaurant. any chinese restaurant that has the word "dragon" in it's name is usually a bad sign.
i expected "white man's chinese" food, but still, some places do it better than others. sadly, this place didn't do it good at all. service was okay enough, even though the girl serving us was maybe 14 years old???
we had fried rice, sweet and sour pork, wonton soup and beef chow mein. all pretty typical and standard chinese food items. the rice was very hard and brown, due to the use of soya sauce. the sweet and sour was overly sweet, almost sickly. the wonton soup tasted like it had been frozen and had some very stale bbq pork floating in it. lastly, the beef chow mein came with noodles that i didn't recognize and bits of shredded beef sprinkled over top of it. all the food was edible, it didn't taste horrible, but it was definitely not good "white man's chinese food". price was decent enough and the bill came to about $24 after tax and tip.
i would definitely not eat here again. you'd be better off going to hon's near coquitlam centre mall, or just cooking it yourself.
bit of a greasy spoon atmosphere but if I'm in PoCo and someone suggests Chinese take out this one gets my vote. Never had any sort of questionable food from this place and it's normally ready quickly and we get a discount for picking it up.
Nov.10,2007. When we feel in the mood for chinese food the entire family knows we are headed for the Sky Dragon. No where else can you get such well prepared food for such a low price !!!! There are only 10 dishes --- but a perfect cross section. As the containers empty fresh food arrives promptly from the kitchen. Great place to hold your party!! Service is almost too good --- with staff removing a plate the minute you're finished. The tables are always ready for the new diner ------ no dirty dishes sitting around here. We never hesitate to recommend the Sky Dragon & in all the years have only had positive feedback. Treat yourself to a super great buffet !!!!
The food is good, fresh, and delicious, some times the deep fried prawn batter is a little overdone, otherwise no complains about the food. Staff pleasant. My only complain about the buffet is,
I have to laugh at the people who come for the buffet, don't wait to be seated, instead head straight to the buffet and proceed to LOAD there plate[s] high as can be with the deep fried prawns or chicken.Come on people there is more than ample to go around.
there will surely be more when you go back for seconds!
Have been going to skydragon since I can remember. Either get the dinner for 3-4/4-5 takeout (if you pick up you get a 10% discount) or go for the weekend buffet ( a fave of the kids) The food is great the ambience very hole in the wall/greasy spoon type but who cares if it's clean. Yes the staff could be more professional at times but they have always been polite and quick and the food is the real reason we are there!!!!
Fave foods- the fried prawns, eggrolls, and chow mein mmmmmm
I took my wife and daughter here for Valentine's because it had both Canadian and Chinese food which would please all 3 of us. We ordered some Egg Rolls and Wonton soup as appetizers. When I first saw the Egg Rolls I was amazed at what I saw. They arrived looking like the grease bullets I loved when I was a teenager. They were so crispy on the outside and so delicious on the inside that I fell in love and immediately ordered another one! They are the best I've had since most places I've been to serve spring rolls instead of the big Egg Rolls. My wife's Won ton soup was alright. The broth needed a little more flavour but the rest of the soup was good. My daughter ordered a grilled cheese for $2.75 and she loved it as most 4 year olds would. My wife ordered a mushroom cheese burger for $3.00 and a side of fries for $1.75 with gravy for $1.00 for everyone to share. Both the burger and the fries were good and the gravy was beefy and semi-thick. I ordered the mushroom Egg Foo yong and it was good. By no means was it the best I've had but it was quite tasty. The whole meal with an extra Egg Roll to go came to $23 with tax. When the waitress brought our bill she also brought 2 free long stem roses for the 2 ladies at my table which made my daughter's year. There was also a reasonably priced chinese food buffet that looked pretty appetizing as well. Overall we will frequent this restaurant again multiple times in the future as long as they continue to have my new love ( Egg Rolls) available.
