Every time I come here, I always regret it. I always ended up choosing Pearl Castle is because it's the only BBT place (I know) in PoCo and Coquitlam that also serves food. Next time, I'll skip the food and go to Bubble World on North Road (drinks only) instead.
Gosh, their food is not that great. They're either all deep fried items or the other non-fried items are too salty. Their drinks are OK but expensive (approx.$5). They use the same prices as the one in Richmond (which is very popular somehow). At least in Rmd, their atmosphere is more lively.
As for service, they're average to non-existent. They have more than 4 ppl working there on a not too busy day, but it was still hard to get their attention.
One good thing that makes them different from other BBT places is that they accept Interac. Wooooo

Located right next to Earle's it looks very plain from the outside but as soon as you enter you are in for a pleasant suprise. Very bright & spotless. Most of the patrons were Asian which is a good sign & the servers have perfect English and gave us great service. For lunch they have probably 20 specials all offering the main dish, rice, vegetables, tofu and dessert for $ 8.25. They are well known for their dumplings which we ordered for $ 6.95 and they were fabulous. They do not accept plastic so bring cash and enjoy

Food is okay. Environment is good. 1 of the few places that opens till late night.
But service is beyond bad. They can't comply with simple substitutions. Very inflexible waitresses. They should re-train their waitresses! Horrible air-conditioning for a summer day (it is like they do not bother to fix their air-con)

Yes, it is about time a decent bubble tea place that serves food opens in the tri-cities area. I've gone to the Pearl Castle in Richmond and knew that they offer good food for decent price. That is why I was overjoyed and couldn't believed my eyes when I saw the sign that says "Pearl Castle" on Lougheed/Shaugnessy. Turns out, they had just opened a few days prior. The place is huge compared to their Richmond location. I don't think seating is going to be an issue here. The service was a bit erratic but understandable for a newly opened restaurant. Everything is good here...it's taiwanese style cuisine. So they have your usual deep fried porkchop/chicken on rice/fried rice and others that are more unusual. I particularly love their black cod with deep fried soy beans, as well as their deep fried chicken thigh on fried rice. One downfall is that the bubble tea and all the drinks are over-priced. But I already know this from their Richmond location. Nonetheless, this place opens late into the night, serve good food, have ample parking, and has an ambiance of a good hangout place. Finally an alternate location for late night snack other than Denny's.

Food ok, bad service

I went with my friend around 10 at night for the first time visit. The decor inside was nice and clean. I like the lighting that was goin around the restauant. Got pretty exciting to order something. I ordered the beef brisket soup and my friend ordered fried chicken combo(or something like that). Mine came with the side dish and dessert which was average for me since I was born a taiwanese. Nothng specially really. The service really needs improvements though, the waitresses were actually standing around and chatting. I have no idea whether they are talking about the businese or fooling around, but I definitely did not get the service I expected since they've got all the time to chat. And I actually had to wave down the waitresses to get orders, teas or any services. (Only four tables at that time.) And finally, it's CREDIT CARD WORLD. They don't accept which suprised me. A restaurant this big only accept cash??? guess they don't welcome someone like me who always pay for credit card. Ha! Otherwise, probably will go back just for cheap decent food there.

me and my friends have found hair more than once in our food. many people i know have also gotten ill from eating the seafood or meat there.

also, one time i actually found an aluminum metal stick in my seafood udon soup.

the service is also very bad, they have many waitresses working there but all they do is stand around the cash register and chat with one another and completely ignore the customers. also, they tend to forget or mess up your order or forget that you wanted service from them.

another drawback is that they can barely understand english which makes it hard for people who don't understand mandarin to communicate with them.

Mon-Thurs 11:30 am to 1:00 am
Fri-Sat 11:30 am to 2:00 am
Sun 11:30 am to 1:00 am

Tel 604-464-8028

Directions are pretty straightforward. Once you see shaughnessy street, it will be at the corner. you can make a right on shaughnessy and left at the next traffic light. PC is near Earls in the complex.

It is nice to finally have pearl castle in poco for those who don't wish to travel all the way to richmond for bbtea and snacks. Closest competition would be Pearl Fever. It is a cash-basis operation so debit/credit cards are not accepted.

I went on a sunday early afternoon and place was packed. plenty of parking as mentioned by previous review.

Our party ordered the usual... special house beef noodle in soup, fried tofu, shanghai dumplings, fried squid, dry noodle in meat sauce, regular bbtea, strawberry slush. food quality is decent and expected... lots of food and drink choices.

The place appears to be well-staffed, waitresses are attentive and friendly. The turnaround time it takes from placing an order and receiving the food is pretty quick (esp. taking into account that the place was operating at near full capacity).

I am hesitant to give a 4 on food given the fact that like other hospitalities... sustaining the current level of food quality can pose to be a challenge.

Nevertheless I would go back again.

I had been there for few times before. First time I got in, I thought I'm going to a wedding or something. Servers are having chat everytime that I'm looking at them for an order or something. Everytime I went there, there isn't as busy as I thought it will be. The food is terrible! Even the bubble teas aren't as good as it should be! Taiwanese bubble tea isn't like that!! Passion Fruit green tea with pearl was sooooo terrible, the passion fruit just taste weird and too sweet! Pearl are sooo bad... I don't even want to talk about it at all !!!
Don't go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You'll get really unsad of this restaurant!!!!!

I can make their food better myself!!!

All the food on the menu look like home-made stuff and not good enough for the public (thou many still order the food since price is decent), I can make most of the food better (look & taste) myself. Drinks are alright with good selection of them however SERVICE is bad. They often push you to leave the store (EVEN if is not the closing time NOR people waiting anywhere). I have friends who went they have many complaints, one of them mistaken ordered the wrong item but is willing to pack the mistaken order home and re-order. The manager come barging telling their waitresses that is not their problem and is the customer's fault. (ummm we know that already, but he still has to come stress about it).

Food Ok, but wow, the service was terrible!

Ok, the ambience/decor is fine. Looks hip (or whatever the young people are using these days).

Food (surprisingly after the terrible service) was actually not bad, and had an attempt at "presentation".

Service. The main issue for this restaurant is poor (omg, horrible) service.

We arrived at the restaurant. (Mistake #1)
It looked fairly busy - only a couple tables left. First issue. No-one near the front greeter's station. Servers all busy taking food to tables. (Fine, I can appreciate wanting to table hot food) Yet, not one of them even made eye contact. No one came by for what felt like 15 minutes (but was probably 10). Finally we FLAGGED down someone who happened to be glancing our way. We were put into a booth near the door. No place settings on it, and still needing to be wiped down. The girl who put us there basically said, "sit here", and left. No menu's. We waited for 5 minutes before I reached around and grabbed the take out menu's. Shortly after doing so, a couple walked in. A server finally brought us some actual menu's, but only after WE requested them!!

I should have probably listened to my gut and just walked out at this point, but as we hosting my sister-in-law and her husband, opted to stay the course (mistake #2).

We received our menu's (about 25 minutes has passed here), and had to again ask for water/tea and utensils. The couple that arrived had gotten some take out menu's at this point and had placed their order.

No one came back to take our order for about 15 minutes. Yeah, were at about 40 minutes here, and I'm having steam coming out of my ears.

The couple's take out food arrived, and they left BEFORE we had even placed our order.

When the food arrived it was actually ok. It might have been better had it not been nearly an hour later, and us being VERY frustrated with the staff.

When our bill arrived, the pricing between the take-out menu and the eat-in menu was different. Believe it or not, the price of eating in was MORE than the price of take-out food. I'm completely baffled about this and asked about it. It was confirmed that, indeed it was true.

We left no tip for the extremely terrible service. I was very angry at the service we had received, as well as the most idiotic pricing I had ever seen.

Listen, I'm not expecting to be waited on hand and foot, or coddled, but this was really, totally unacceptable. For those of you thinking, "Hey, it's probably some angry Caucasian who doesn't understand how Asian restaurants work" - I am partly Asian, myself.

I swore never to go there again. Hey owners of Pearl Castle, I sincerely hope you read this, and for the love of all that is good, make changes.
