this place? um,,,, not that good quality of food,
my brother and I ordered a take-out, because we heard the owner and chef was changed there.
but,,, well? the size, did get bigger than before,
but, taste?
hm,,, let see, not my type or my brother's.
the california roll was big, but, the imitated crab was all mushed with mayo
and dynamite roll? the tempura seemed to be deep fried before.. and stuff.
my brother almost puke,,,
and i did also feel little discusted.
the some part of the food was okay, and for me, i care about high quality food?
i guess it's not our or my type,
i would not go back to this place to eat.
Had I written this review a few years ago things would have sounded very different.
Before we lived in the area, we found this place and my husband spoke highly of Hiro's. We stopped in whenever we were in the neighbourhood. So when we moved near by we figured we knew at least one of the restaurants close by would be in our regular rotation of dine out options.
But since move to Poco we've ordered from Hiro's twice and ate there once with some friends (at our recommendation, and boy were we embarrassed). Food quality has gone down hill and prices have gone up... what a bad combination.
Although the sushi chef is Japanese and trained in Japan (from what I've been told), I am dissapointed in the sushi rolls we ordered. The filling is scant and rolls pricy. The fish was fresh enough. I always have salmon and my husband always the tuna / toro.
We're on the search for a new sushi place. We've tried a couple of other sushi places close by and found some pretty good competition and almost all Japanese sushi chef's behind the bar too which is a bit unusual since we find a lot of sushi restaurants in Vancouver/Richmond are Chinese or Vietnamese run.
I,ve eaten there with friends and i was shocked to see a bad review. anyways from what i have learnt from this food, and the chef hiro, the rice is traditionally made with culture and religious waves on wooden spoons and food is fresh, and preped daily.for a small restaurant it is doing well and is hidden by an a&w and subway in downtown poco. By far the best sushi in coquitlam, sorry to say but the atmosphere is not kept up but the 17 years of sushi making experience makes up for it! good stuff, and recomended by my mom too:)
I used to come for sushi here all the time.
What happened?
This place used to be my favourite sushi place in town. Now the prices have gone up, the portions have gotten smaller, and the quality of fish is less than stellar.
I wish I had written a glowing review of this place years ago, perhaps that would have saved it.
But seeing the revolving door of waitresses in the course of one year should have been an early warning sign of things to come.
The food USED to be delicious, but now it's just mediocre.
The service USED to be alright, now it's just non-existent. This is a cafeteria style, seat yourself, serve your own tea kind of place.... but your food used to arrived in a much timelier fashion.
The value USED to be GREAT, but now it's just over priced and under par.
The ambiance remains the same.
I wouldn't return here again.
When I went into this restaurant my first though was it was more of a takeout type restaurant you see in Japan. Although the Japanese sushi chef was very friendly the food was below average almost tasting like the sushi you can get in Safeway. It did not appear to be the busiest location which explains the quality of the food that was average at best. I would be very surprised if this restaurant is stays open for another year.
